Patent number: 7448652Abstract: A fitting is inserted into an opening in a wall. The fitting includes a ring portion where it extends through the opening. It also includes one or two end portions that extend axially outwardly from the ring portion. The ring portion has an inside diameter that is smaller than the inside diameters of the end portion or portions. The fitting is positioned within the wall openings. Then, an expansion tool is moved through the interior of fitting for the purpose of expanding the ring portion. The ring portion is expanded to such an extent that it makes a tight fit with the opening. Also, the degree of expansion may result in a cold working of the wall material surrounding the opening. The expansion tooling only expands the ring portion and does not exert a substantial expanding force on the end portions.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2003Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Fatigue Technology Inc.Inventors: Tom G. Poast, Dean C. Madden, Mark R. Weiss

Patent number: 6439580Abstract: The invention relates to a sealing element (1) with inflatable bellows (10) for sealing piping. Said sealing element can be e.g. cylindrical in shape and said bellows (10) can be provided with two recesses (14a, 14b) containing a gel (11). When the bellows are inflated, the gel (11) encompasses e.g. uneven areas on the inner wall of the piper or cables in the pipe in such a way as to provide a seal.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignees: Ka-Te System AGInventors: Reinhard Hecht, Karl Manstorfer

Patent number: 6244633Abstract: A collar for connecting a duct to a wall having a hole therein bounded by an edge having a predetermined thickness. The collar is constructed from a sheet of material having top, bottom, left and right edges, the sheet forming a tubular structure in which the left and right edges overlap. The sheet includes a groove for engaging the edge of the hole. The sheet also includes first and second detents spaced apart thereon. The overlap of the left and right edges at the top edge changes when the spacing between the first and second detents is changed. The collar also includes a first fastener for fixing the overlap of the left and right edges at the top edge when the edge of the hole is engaged in the groove and a second fastener for fixing the overlap of the left and right edges at the bottom edge. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the groove includes a layer of a sealing material for forming a seal between the sheet of material and the edge of the hole.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1999Date of Patent: June 12, 2001Assignee: Sheet Metal Specialists, Inc.Inventor: George E. Patent number: 6113156Abstract: An apparatus for connecting a first tubular conduit to be in flow communication with a second tubular conduit includes an adapter and a generally cylindrical wedge. The adapter defines an upper, generally cylindrical surface and a lower, generally cylindrical surface with an inner ledge therebetween. The adapter is configured for connection to: (i) the first tubular conduit such that a portion of the adapter is substantially flush with an inner surface of the first tubular conduit, and (ii) the second tubular conduit such that there is flow communication therebetween. The wedge has an outwardly extending flange portion and a generally cylindrical depending portion. The wedge is configured for insertion into the adapter such that the flange portion abuts against the ledge of the adapter and the cylindrical portion is substantially flush with the inner surface of the first tubular conduit.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Flex Connection, Inc.Inventor: Thomas T. Patent number: 5655796Abstract: The present invention tubular assembly comprises a tubular member (14), an annular bushing (17) therearound and a ferrule (21) therewithin. The bushing (17) is fit around a predetermined portion of the tubular member (15) and the ferrule (21) is then inserted within a distal end (35) thereof. The ferrule (21) acts to expand portions of the inside and outside surfaces (33 and 31) of the tubular member (15) which are longitudinally adjacent to the bushing (17). A ferrule (75) may further have an outwardly projecting flange (79) at its trailing end which serves to retain a seal (83) thereupon. Also, in another embodiment, a lip (103) located around the diameter of the ferrule's flange (101) and projecting normal thereto serves to center the distal end of the tubular member (91) within a connected female housing (23).Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1995Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: Proprietary Technology, Inc.Inventor: Donald Dekle Bartholomew

Patent number: 5224742Abstract: A cut-off material is provided, which includes an impermeable cutoff member (10, 70) provided with an expandable hose portion (18, 72) and a flange portion (20, 74) formed integrally with one end of the hose portion. The cutoff member is disposed in first and second pipelines, so that the flange portion is positioned within the first pipeline (12) and that the hose portion is positioned within the second pipeline (14). The cut-off member is maintained, for example, by a base (24,54,82) that is wound to be radially expandable, so that the flange portion is brought into liquid tight contact with the inner surface of the first pipeline and the hose portion extends within the second pipeline.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1991Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignees: Toa Grout Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha, Kabushiki Kaisha Iseki Kaihatsu KokiInventors: Sinkiti Ooka, Yukio Suzuki, Hisashi Kitajima, Hidehiro Noda

Patent number: 5205593Abstract: The tight connection fitting for a circular orifice in a rigid element is composed of a pipe in flexible material, such as rubber, whose external diameter is slightly greater than the bore of the orifice, and of a truncated cone-shaped bushing whose angle of conicity is less than the angle of friction between the two materials constituting the bushing and the pipe, and whose diameter at the base of the cone is substantially equal to the internal diameter of the pipe. The angle of conicity is, for a bushing in polyamide and a pipe in rubber, at the most 20.degree., and preferably between 2.degree. and 10.degree..The bushing is introduced into the pipe so that the head of the bushing is at a certain distance from the end of the pipe; that end of the pipe is introduced by force into the orifice, and then the bushing is caused to slide inside the pipe until it is blocked in.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1991Date of Patent: April 27, 1993Inventor: Francois Fondeur

Patent number: 5050912Abstract: A number of embodiments of sea water hose fixing devices for fixing a conduit within an opening of a marine outboard drive without damaging the hose so as to permit reuse of the hose upon disassembly. The conduit is maintained within the opening by means of a pair of interengaging inner members that interlock with the conduit and interlock the conduit with that member in which it is received without causing damage of the conduit so as to facilitate reuse.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1989Date of Patent: September 24, 1991Assignee: Sanshin Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kenichi Hayasaka

Patent number: 4641862Abstract: There is disclosed a nozzle liner and a method for its installation for the protection of nozzles of vessels. The nozzle liner comprises a sleeve fitting the internal diameter of the nozzle and having an integral end flange. The nozzle liner is inserted into the nozzle with its integral end flange bearing against the outer face of the ring flange of the nozzle. The nozzle liner is rotationally molded with an end flange and is free of internal stresses and seams. The preferred method of its installation simultaneously flares and bonds the nozzle liner to the lining of the vessel in a fashion which confines the stressed portions of the nozzle liner in the annular lamination area. In this position, the end of the nozzle liner projects inside the vessel and the projecting end is thermoformed to flare it outwardly and form an annular seal laminated against the inner corrosion liner of the vessel. For this purpose a heated flaring and laminating tool is employed.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1985Date of Patent: February 10, 1987Inventor: Randy A. Gardiner
