  • Publication number: 20020140227
Abstract: A pipe coupling comprising a socket having a plurality of locking balls capable of engaging a locking portion on a plug and connected to the plug with the locking balls in engagement with the locking portion. The socket includes a main cylinder having an end portion formed with an inlet to receive the plug and an outer cylinder located close to the end portion of the main cylinder and around the outer periphery thereof. The main cylinder and the outer cylinder define a gap having a tapered profile between them, and the locking balls are stored in the gap. The locking balls can project and recede from the inner periphery of the main cylinder. Further, the pipe coupling comprises a thrust cylinder slidable on the outer periphery of the main cylinder. When the locking balls engage the locking portion, the thrust cylinder prevents centrifugal movement of the locking balls.

Abstract: A fluid coupling includes various features. One feature is a disconnect tool that may expand a lock ring from engagement with a lock shoulder to permit the male half and female half to be separated. Another feature is to utilize geometry and structure whereby a leak would occur to indicate the condition of wear within the coupling while the coupling halves remain mechanically coupled. A further feature is to provide connection verification structure to assure that a complete connection of the male and female halves has been made. A still further feature is to provide an anti-rotational sleeve which would selectively prevent and permit relative rotation between the male half and the female half.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a knob-like collar device adapted to fit securely around the lateral displacement locking sleeve of a quick-release hose coupler. The device promotes one-hand operation of the coupler by providing purchase and grip for the thumb of the hand holding the coupler thereby facilitating the lateral displacement of the locking sleeve. The device is particularly useful when the coupler is very cold, a condition that commonly results from the high velocity passage of fluids or gasses through the coupler. The device also absorbs mechanical shock resulting from the accidental dropping of the coupler on a hard surface, thereby protecting the coupler from damage.

A shearing structure is also presented that minimizes translation of the leaf elements with respect to the receiving surface. When the band is released, springs or other means urge the leaves away from the mating surface, thereby allowing for the separation of the connected items. Abstract: The present invention relates to safety joints which permit separation of a downhole assembly at the location of the joint. The invention provides a safety joint characterized by the provision of auxiliary interconnecting means on a body (2) for interconnecting said body (2) to an auxiliary shaft after removal of a main shaft (3) from said body (2). Axial loading between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) may be thereby transferred. Furthermore, torque may also be transferred between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) in a direction opposite to that in which torque may be transferred from the main shaft (3) to said body (2). A pair of elongated members are disposed generally parallel to the quick disconnect female fittings. A plate is configured to slide along the elongated members. The plate is configured such that when urged toward the first ends of the quick disconnect female fittings along the elongated members, the plate will urge the sleeves toward the first ends. A first spring is disposed on each of the elongated members and is configured to urge the plate toward the first ends of the quick disconnect female fittings. Each of the elongated members includes a recess therein.

Abstract: A connector for providing a fluid tight connection to a fluid port having internal threads. The connector includes an exterior sleeve having a split collet retractably mounted therein. The split collet defines an axial bore and includes a distal end portion extending axially outward from an end of the sleeve and adapted for lockingly engaging the threads of the fluid port. A sealing structure is mounted on the distal portion of the collet for providing a fluid tight seal with an end portion of the fluid port. The connector further includes an expansion pin mounted within the axial bore of the split collet adjacent to the distal end portion of the split collet. The expansion pin cooperates with the split collet to move the split collet radially inward and outward. A cross member connects the expansion pin to the exterior sleeve for preventing relative axial movement between the exterior sleeve and the expansion pin.
