    Abstract: A crimp fitting comprises a female socket that is configured to be crimped to an end portion of a hard tube. The socket comprises an annealed annular wall that has an inner cylindrical surface portion and at least one annular sealing portion. The cylindrical surface portion lies axially between the socket opening and the annular sealing portion, and has a diameter matched to the OD of the tube. The annular sealing portion has an innermost diameter that is greater than the diameter of the cylindrical surface portion. As the end of the tube is inserted into the socket, the tube cannot slideably contact the annular sealing portion. Thus, the annular sealing portion will not be damaged by the insertion of the tube. Thereafter, the annular sealing portion is radially crimped and ultimately contacts and deforms a portion of the tube in a manner creating interlocking geometry and a pressure seal.

A resilient seal is disposed about the end of a fluid line within each end of the passageway and a combination slotted ferrule and sealing ring member formed with a sealing ring portion and a ferrule portion is captured between the seal and a compression nut treaded onto the end of the body. When the nut is tightened onto the end, it causes the ferrule portion to deform and collapse inwardly to grasp and hold the fluid line securely in place and simultaneously drives the sealing ring portion against the seal to compress the seal, which expands to form a fluid-tight seal around the end of the fluid line.

The ring-shaped body is formed of an injection molded elastomeric material and carries a series of gripping segments which have teeth on an inner surface thereof which are designed to engage an outer surface of a mating male pipe. The teeth are oriented to allow movement of the male pipe in a first direction relative to an end opening of the fitting during assembly, but to resist movement in a opposite direction after the fitting joint has been assembled. The gripping segments have shelf regions which are mechanically secured to the elastomeric body of the gasket.
