The clamp apparatus also includes a secondary strap structure for providing independent redundancy, relative to the primary strap, to supply back-up circumferential force onto the primary strap structure, should a failure occur in either of the fastening mechanism or the primary strap structure, to enable the clamp to maintain clamping force on the abutting pipe ends.

A lug cover plate is secured to the lug and the thrust plate and receives the threaded stud. The lug cover plate includes a curved end portion covering at least a portion of the lug. A locking plate receives the threaded stud. The locking plate slides along a top surface of the lug and over the lug cover plate when the first and second ends of the strap are pulled toward each other when the clamp is tightened around a pipe.

The concavities are angularly oriented with respect to the axis so that when the segments rotate, the cavities receive the sealing member without distorting it. The clamp members being positioned face to face and having an aperture to allow the insertion of a tightening element which can be operated to reduce the distance between the two ends of the open annular base element and thereby press an annular seal element against the outside of a pipe inserted through the seal clamp housing, which after release of the tightening element returns to its original dimensions.

    Abstract: A preassembled mechanical pipe coupling for joining pipe elements in end-to-end relationship is disclosed. Connection members in the form of lugs and fasteners are mounted on the segments. The connection members are adjustably tightenable for drawing the coupling segments together and forcing the arcuate surfaces into engagement with the outer surfaces of the pipe elements. Notches are formed at ends of the arcuate surfaces to provide clearance allowing the pipe elements to be inserted between the segments when they are in the pre-assembled, spaced apart configuration.

    Abstract: An anchoring device for a pipe coupling including an annular channel of generally U-shaped cross-section. The channel has a web portion with flanges and projecting radially inwardly. A frusto-conical gripping ring is located in the channel with its outer edge inside the web portion adjacent one of the flanges and its inner edge adjacent the other flange and projecting inwardly beyond this latter flange. The annular channel forms an incomplete ring and is compressible circumferentially. The anchoring device is fitted inside a clamping device, which fits around a pipe coupling. The clamping device has a tensioning for tightening the clamping device around the pipe, compressing the annular channel and causing the inner edge of the frusto-conical gripping ring to engage the outer surface of the pipe and thus grip the pipe.
