Patent number: 6789822Abstract: An expandable tubing assembly comprises a tubular connector defining overlapping longitudinal slots, the connector comprising end portions and an intermediate portion. The slots extend over the whole length of the connector, but the only slot overlap occurs in the intermediate portion. The assembly further comprises lengths of expandable tubing defining overlapping longitudinal slots and having end portions defining nodes between and beyond the ends of the tubing slots. Tubing threads are formed on the end most tubing nodes. The connector end portions define threads and are coupled with the threads formed on the nodes of the respective end portions of the tubing lengths.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1999Date of Patent: September 14, 2004Assignee: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventor: Paul David Metcalfe

Publication number: 20040169371Abstract: A novel speed lock fitting with a threaded drive pin that obviates any shock or vibration to the piping system, and can also be used in tight spaces where no one could practically swing a hammer. Assembly of the connecting fitting with drive pins as shown in the illustrations can be accomplished with a cordless electric driver or hand tool such as a wrench or socket wrench. Disassembly is then simply the reverse of assembly. The drive pin can be applied with greater net force to the pipe wall, thus making it a good choice for standard and heavy wall pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 11, 2003Publication date: September 2, 2004Inventor: Howard H. Patent number: 6739631Abstract: A torque-limiting bolt-and-nut assembly is provided for actuating a pipe-pressing member in order to secure two pipe ends together. The bolt includes a threaded shank, a secondary drive head, and a shearable drive head designed to be sheared-off by a torque exceeding a predetermined value. A recess is formed between the shearable drive head and the second drive head. The nut is mounted on the shearable drive head and is configured for transmitting torque to the shearable drive head from a manual tool. A nut includes a connection structure extending into the recess for resisting dislodgement of the nut from the bolt. The shearable drive head has at least four sides, all of the sides being of equal length, and the number of the sides being an even number.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2002Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Inventors: Radford S. Patent number: 6715803Abstract: An expansion coupling for interconnecting the terminal portions of separate first and second lengths of electrical metallic tubing to permit relative axial movement between the first and second lengths of electrical metallic tubing. The expansion coupling comprises a sleeve of thin-walled metal tubing having a principal length and an interior axial passageway terminating in opposing first and second openings. The first opening is dimensioned to receive therein in telescopic sliding relation a terminal portion of the first length of electrical metallic tubing. The second opening is dimensioned to receive therein a terminal portion of the second length of electrical metallic tubing. A movable member, such as a set-screw, etc., is positioned proximate the second opening, the movable member being selectively positionable within the axial passageway to secure the second length of tubing in fixed relationship with the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2002Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Inventor: Thomas L. Pahl
