The gripping grooves of the retainers have a unique inner surface with a pair of slanted gripping surfaces and a pair of non-gripping surfaces that are located within the outer envelope of the peripheral flanges. This provides for lightweight, compact retainers. The retainers are pivotally coupled at one of their ends by a hinge assembly and releasably coupled at their opposite ends by a latch mechanism. The hinge assembly has at least two links pivotally coupled at one of their ends to one of the retainers by a first pivot pin being received in a pivot slot formed in the retainer and pivotally coupled at their other end to the other retainer by a second pivot pin being received in a pivot slot formed in the retainer.

  • Patent number: 5620210
Abstract: A coupling assembly for connecting adjacent ends of conduits, primarily used for aircraft fuel, water and oxygen lines having redundant locking features is provided. This coupling can be manipulated with one hand and includes laterally spaced locking tines which engage a mating channel for locking the coupling in secured relationship. The coupling assembly can be manipulated with one hand and has viewing ports to ensure that all parts are in place. A pivotal locking member is provided to supply additional redundancy. The locking member has at least one fin which is received between the locking tines and snaps into locking position when the coupling is securely fastened. If the coupling is not securely fastened, the fin will not fit between the tines, thereby preventing the locking member from snapping into locked position. Thus, the mechanic will know that the coupling is not securely fastened and will take steps to remedy the problem.

  • Patent number: 5597184
Abstract: A clamp for quick release of a generally rectangular bonnet to the flange of valve body is disclosed. The upper side of the edge of the rectangular bonnet is formed with a bevel of about 20 degrees and the lower side of the edge of the body flange is formed with a similar bevel. The clamp consists of semi-circular ends and straight sides hinged together. One side is split and connected by a toggle latch. In cross-section, each clamp section is generally C-shaped, with the top and bottom arms of the C being beveled so that as the clamp sections are drawn inward the bevels wedge the bonnet against the flange. Locating pins fitting into holes in the plate and flange locate the parts and resist implosion when the valve body is subjected to vacuum. To maintain uniform clamping force around the circumference of the bonnet the bevels at the middles of the sides may be less wide than at the ends.

Abstract: Simplified hook closure for a sport boot including an elastic means for returning into a position pressed against the shell of the boot. The hook closure has at least one element, such as a lever made out of flexible metal wire in the form of an open buckle whose lateral arms are of unequal lengths of a value "X", the curved ends of the said arms being affixed in corresponding holes formed on another element, such as a base, on which it is mounted. By virtue of the offset "X" of the curved ends of the element, any pivoting of the latter generates a certain elastic deformation of its arms, which automatically return to their initial position as soon as the lever is released thus assuring the elastic return function.

  • Patent number: 5509702
Abstract: A pipe coupling device for coupling the peripheral flanges of a pair of pipes together, including a pair of retainers with a V-shaped groove therein for receiving portions of the peripheral flanges of the pipes. The retainers are pivotally coupled at one of their ends by a hinge assembly and releasably coupled at their opposite ends by a latch mechanism. The hinge assembly has at least two links pivotally coupled at one of their ends to one of the retainers by a first pivot pin and pivotally coupled at their other ends to the other retainer by a second pivot pin. The pivot pins are separated from each other such that the links of the hinge assembly straddle the peripheral flanges of the pipes. This arrangement provides more uniform pressure at the ends of the retainers since the moment resulting from the offset of the hinge assembly is moved closer to the circumferential loading line between the retainers and the flanges of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5411349
Abstract: Cylindrical bodies of structural components, such as a spacecraft and a rocket section or two rocket sections, are coupled to each other by a releasable coupling device. The structural components have radially protruding flanges that face each other and are encircled by the coupling device. The coupling device includes a flexible tensioning element, such as a steel belt or link chain, the ends of which are interconnected by a clamping or locking device. The clamping or locking device is constructed as a two-armed lever, one end of which is connected to each of the ends of the tensioning element. The two-armed lever is rotatably supported and driven by an operating member such as a pipe section or rod. The two-armed lever is thus rotatable through an angle of about 180.degree. so that the ends of the tensioning element are brought into overlapping positions. When the ends are in such overlapping positions the device is locked. Rotation of the two-armed lever into the opposite direction unlocks the device.
