Segmented Ring Patents (Class 285/411)
  • Patent number: 4471979
Abstract: A quick-connect coupling is disclosed for thin-walled pipes which can accommodate pipes of the same internal diameter but of differing wall thickness, the coupling member being constructed to deform pipes of less than maximum wall thickness into a substantially elliptical condition in which the coupling is fully seated, bolting pads of the coupling being spaced from each other to induce deformation and seating of the pipes upon tightening of the coupling.

  • Patent number: 4402113
Abstract: A flexible clamp for hose, cable and the like in the form of a strip with opposite ends joined to produce a band. A portion of the strip is formed into parallel sections with at least one section having a corrugated shape and with another section having a variable length, non-corrugated, and conforming to the shape of the band, with this section having a plurality of overlapping tongues providing a substantially continuous portion of the band. In use, the corrugated section provides flexibility for the clamp permitting change of clamp circumference with temperature cycling and the like.

  • Patent number: 4341406
Abstract: Pipe coupling of the type comprising two end fittings which can be fixed to two parts of the circuit to be connected and an open collar constituted by a plurality of articulated elements, with which are associated tensioning means, said elements cooperating with the end fittings to bring the latter into tightly sealed contact during the utilization of the tensioning means, wherein the collar has at least one C-shaped spring connecting each of the articulated elements and giving the collar a semi-rigid structure, there being a clearance in a direction longitudinal with respect to the spring between the latter and each of the articulated elements in order to prevent the transmission of the tightening forces to the spring.

  • Patent number: 4191410
Abstract: The device is adapted to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of pipe sections in a blast downpipe. It comprises two flanges defining frustoconical bearing surfaces and a collar comprising clamping jaws which engage on said bearing surfaces. The collar is suspended from a support constructed in two parts, one of which parts is fixed and the other pivotally mounted on the first part. The collar may be clamped or unclamped by means of two screw and nut units.

  • Patent number: 4170260
Abstract: A finned cooling clamp for dissipating heat from motorcycle exhaust pipes is comprised of two arcuate collar segments which can be removably interlocked together around an exhaust pipe. The collar segments are interlocked together at their opposite ends by mating locking elements. Locking heads on one end of the collar segments are apertured to receive a fastener utilized for attaching the cooling clamp to a cylinder head of a motorcycle. The interlocked clamp segments form a continuous, annular clamp conforming to the shape of a mounting flange affixed to a motorcycle exhaust pipe. The mounting flange is also apertured, and the fastener extends through it as well as through the clamp collar segments to attach an exhaust pipe to a motorcycle cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 4123095
Abstract: A clamping structure for use in holding adjacent, aligned, flanged pipe ends together can be constructed utilizing a band consisting of a plurality of elongated coupling segments located in end-to-end relationship. Each of the clamping structures includes a clamping surface; these clamping surfaces are dimensioned so that when the band is in position around the flanged ends the clamping surfaces engage and fit closely against the flanges on the pipes so as to hold the flanges together. A locking arm is pivotally mounted on one of the terminal ends of the band. A latching element is carried by the locking arm in such a manner that the arm may be pivoted between a position in which the latching element is spaced from the latch retainer for removal and/or for installation of the band and a position in which the latching element engages the retainer so as to secure the band in position.

  • Patent number: 4065846
Abstract: A seal-welded pipe joint mechanically braced by a clamp for preferred use in handling toxic and radioactive materials is disclosed together with a process for joining the same. The joint comprises a pair of abutted male frustroconical skirts, each attached integrally to the pipe segments to be joined and confronting each other at opposed mating and finished surfaces which define a sunken ridge at their periphery. A uniform continuous seal weld of relatively slight penetration seals the opposed mating and finished surfaces at the ridge. The pipe joint is physically secured by a plurality of, for example, three female frustroconical segments forming a circumscribing collet which is circumferentially clamped to the skirt by a plurality of, for example, three tangentially disposed bolts. The abutted frustroconical skirts taper from a broad cross section adjacent the pipe wall radially outwardly to a narrower cross section.

  • Patent number: 3964773
Abstract: A joint which is made up of exhaust pipes formed with beaded ends or with a beaded end on one pipe and a flared end on the other pipe, in any case either with or without suitable gasket means. A clamp having a concave groove engages the protrusions on the ends of the pipes of the joint and wedgingly forces them together as the clamp is constricted. The clamp is made out of two halves which are hingedly connected at the first end of each and which are adapted to be secured by a bolt at the second end of each, there preferably being a nut permanently welded to one of the second ends coaxial with a first perforation in that end and a second perforation in the other of the second ends to pass the bolt to the nut. The hinged connection is preferably non-separable.
