Patent number: 4869533Abstract: A fitting of weldable thermoplastic material for connecting pipe elements or other fittings. The connection is obtained by welding by means of at least one heating element arranged at the surfaces of the members to be welded together. At least one weld indicator defined by a hollow space in the fitting is provided. The hollow space defines a first opening at the inner surface of the fitting and a second opening at the outer surface of the fitting. The first opening is covered by the heating element and the second opening defines a portion of reduced width, the portion of reduced width defining a retaining or cooling surface facing the interior of the hollow space. The second opening serves as an outlet opening for the melt. During welding, melt is conducted into the hollow space by the generated welding pressure. The melt solidifies when it reaches the retaining and cooling surface and only a small portion of the melt is conducted through the outlet opening for indicating a problem-free welding connection.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1987Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Assignee: Georg Fischer AGInventors: Ernesto Lehmann, Alred Thalmann

Patent number: 4813590Abstract: To alter the surface qualities of nonreactive materials, such as polypropylene and polyethylene in order to provide a means for bonding the plastic to metal, hard granular materials of oxides or carbides are partially impregnated into the surface of the plastic by application of heat and pressure so that granular edges remain exposed. Thereafter, a silver coating is applied over the impregnated plastic to interlock with the granules. The composite layered plastic then provides a means for soldering or bonding the plastic to a metallic coupling using either a bonding cement or a low temperature solder such as bismuth, lead, or tin based solder. Abrasion-resistant qualities also are improved by impregnating the internal surfaces of a plastic tube in order to improve its wear-resistance during transporting abrasive slurries of sand, coal, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1987Date of Patent: March 21, 1989Inventor: David Deakin

Patent number: 4732415Abstract: A non-metallic vacuum probe for elevated temperature service having a probe body portion for coupling to a vacuum line. The probe body portion is coupled through a washer shaped low friction bearing surface and gasket for sealing to a probe flange portion. Interconnection of probe body portion and probe flange portion is provided through lug and ramp means. The probe flange portion includes vacuum channels on the bottom major surface region for vacuum bag and blanket curing of plastic components or panels in autoclaves or ovens.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1986Date of Patent: March 22, 1988Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Barry D. Patent number: 4728128Abstract: A connection assembly for joining two parts having confronting ends with a joint therebetween, particularly ceramic pipes, includes a dimensionally stable coupling member surrounding the joint and at least one of the two confronting ends of the two parts to be joined. The coupling member is dimensioned to define a space with the at least one part end. This space is filled with a ceramic fiber mat material containing a swelling agent capable of volume expansion when subjected to a temperature above a given minimum temperature. As a result, upon being subjected to an operating temperature above such given temperature, the swelling agent swells the ceramic fiber mat material, such that the mat material is compressed between the coupling member and the at least one part end surrounded thereby, thereby connecting the two parts.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1986Date of Patent: March 1, 1988Assignee: Didier-Werke AGInventors: Alfred Frey, Robert Burger

Patent number: 4722560Abstract: The disclosure relates to a quick release tube couplings in which a collet with resilient arms is arranged to co-operate with a tapering cam surface in a member surrounding the collet to force the arms to grip a tube within the collet. The member is formed from two, male and female parts each having a bore, the male part bore being tapered to provide the cam surface. The male and female parts are assembled with a pair of annular surfaces on the respective parts spaced apart by an edge or projection on one of the surfaces and ultrasonic vibration is applied to soften the ridge to cause the surfaces to weld together and to allow two other opposed annular surfaces to come together and be welded by said ultrasonic vibration to weld the two parts together at two spaced annular region.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 1987Date of Patent: February 2, 1988Inventor: John D. Patent number: 4721331Abstract: A female connector member for use in a quickly-attachable connector assembly with a male connector member comprises a housing formed with a socket for receiving the male connector member and further formed with a pair of circumferentially-spaced openings through a wall leading into said socket; and a locking member having a flexible arcuate section received on the outer face of the housing, and a pair of oblique locking elements normally projecting through the openings into the socket for locking the male connector member therein. The outer faces of the locking elements are inclined at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the socket and converge in the direction of the mouth of the socket, such as to facilitate the insertion of the male connector member into the socket by a small push force and to lock the male connector member against withdrawal from the socket even by a large pull force.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1986Date of Patent: January 26, 1988Inventor: Noam Lemelshtrich

Patent number: 4718700Abstract: A T-shaped hose includes a vulcanized main hose having a wall with an opening therein and a vulcanized branch hose having one end disposed adjacent to the opening in the main hose, so that the hoses are approximately in the form of a "T". A hollow generally cylindrical branch sleeve having a generally outwardly directed flange at its lower end and an annular recess formed in the outer wall of the sleeve adjacent to the flange, is disposed primarily within the branch hose with the flange engaging the inner wall of the main hose and defining therebetween an annular channel. A fixation member composed of a vulcanizable rubber is received with the recess and channel.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1985Date of Patent: January 12, 1988Assignee: Phoenix AktiengesellschaftInventors: Frank Horch, Hermann Brockmann, Herbert Barfuss, Werner Schutt

Patent number: 4718568Abstract: A fuel filler member for vehicles is disposed between and fluidly connects a fuel filler inlet on the vehicle with the vehicle fuel tank. The fuel member includes a first corrugated filler pipe placing the inlet and tank in fluid communication, and a second corrugated breather pipe contained within the first pipe, for conveying air present in the tank towards the fuel filler inlet. The first and second pipes are made of nylon, while the sleeves and/or members connecting the pipes to the filler inlet and tank are made of an acetal resin.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1986Date of Patent: January 12, 1988Assignee: Fabbrica Italiana Serrature Torino FistInventor: Attilio Dal Palu
