  • Patent number: 7708317
Abstract: A hollow pipe connector is described for interconnecting opposed ends of two hollow pipes in abutting end-to-end relationship. Preferably, but not exclusively, the pipes are hollow pile cylinders of circular cross-section. The connector is formed by two flat metal plates each having interconnecting slots whereby the plates are coupled together to form a connector of X-cross-section. Each of the plates have outer side edges having opposed sloped edge portions on a respective side of an arresting raised projection formed in the outer edge in a mid-section thereof. The sloped edge portions slope inwardly towards a respective one of the opposed ends of the connector member. The connector engages opposed end portions of pipes coupled together by a frictional retaining force exerted on the inner walls at opposed ends of the coupled pipes.

  • Publication number: 20080211228
Abstract: An apparatus for sealing a section of a pipe interior includes a clamp having a magnetic engagement means for axially positioning the clamp within the interior of a pipe and preventing relative axial movement there-between and a sealing plate securable thereto. Movement of the sealing plate against the clamp results in deformation of a resilient sealing member thereby forming a seal between the apparatus and the pipe. The apparatus can be used in conjunction with another oppositely oriented apparatus or other sealing means to form a sealed space within the tube. Pressurization of the sealed space allows for a radial and/or axial force being applied to the sealed section of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4813457
Abstract: A flange made of fiber-reinforced thermosetting synthetic resin comprises at least one flange section extending in an axial direction, which is fitted, or can be fitted, on a tubular part to be provided with a flange. The flange section joins the inside face of the flange which, together with an outside face of the flange, defines the flange. The flange has several fibre-reinforcement layers laid around each other and extending in an axial direction, and which are spirally wound up. The flange section extending in the axial direction also consists of fibre-reinforcement layers and thermosetting synthetic resin. In the region of the angular intersection between the inside face of the flange and the flange section extending in the axial direction, there is situated a reinforcement layer which prevents crack formation and which extends from the inside face of the flange to the flange section extending in the axial direction.

  • Patent number: 4344720
Abstract: The decant 2 of a tailings dam comprises a pipe which is formed as a coil with turns 4 which are axially spaced apart one above the other. The end of the bottom turn is connected to a laterally extending water outlet pipe 6 which leads out of the tailings dam and the end of the top turn 7 is open and forms an inlet for the flow of water through the decant out of the dam. The coil is preferably in the form of a conical spiral and the turns are of such a size in relation to the cross-sectional area and wall thickness of the pipe from which they are formed that the coil is compressed axially without overstressing the pipe as, in continued use of the dam, tailings are consolidated around the decant and the decant is gradually extended upwards turn after turn.

  • Patent number: 4221239
Abstract: An insulated conduit composed of an inner structural tubing with each length or bend of said tubing having a bell socket at one end with a matching spigot joint at the other end, and so arranged that one is enabled to assemble comparitively long continuous lengths of the insulated conduit. Resting blocks are placed at appropriate position and distances within the inner structural tubing whereby energy carrying piping may be inserted within the inner structural tubing and rest upon said blocks. The energy carrying piping is protected from loss of heat energy by the insulative value of the ambient air within the inner structural tubing and also by the inclusion of inert air spaces located between a series of structural ribs which form a support between the inner structural tubing and an outer insulation jacket.

  • Patent number: 4082319
Abstract: A coupling sleeve for joining the ends of two conduits. One end is threaded, the other is unthreaded. The coupling sleeve has a female thread which engages the threaded end. The unthreaded end has a terminal portion of reduced external diameter running to an inwardly displaced groove in which a locking ring is disposed. The end of the coupling sleeve which engages the unthreaded conduit end has a recess in which the locking ring is axially slidable and a flange that engages a full diameter external section of the unthreaded end. The recess is long enough to permit the coupling sleeve to be fully received on the unthreaded conduit end when the female thread is disengaged from the threaded end of the conduit.
