Patent number: 4573239Abstract: A hinge has a pair of leaves, one of which has a spaced pair of knuckles and the other has a central knuckle disposed therebetween. Disposed in the single knuckle are a pair of tubular bushing inserts received in opposite ends of its passage and having radial flanges disposed between the adjacent knuckles. The two knuckle hinge leaf is engaged with a pair of hinge pin elements extending inwardly from the opposite end of the leaf so as to prevent relative rotation therebetween, while the hinge pin elements extend into and are freely rotatable in the inserts. In the method of assembly, the bearing inserts are placed in the single knuckle leaf, and the two knuckle leaf is then aligned therewith and the hinge pin elements are inserted and engaged with the two knuckle leaf to prevent relative rotation therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1984Date of Patent: March 4, 1986Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Richard L. Patent number: 4563039Abstract: A hinge joint which connects the back to the remainder of the seat in a motor vehicle has first and second leaves respectively provided with punched internal and spur gears. The internal gear receives the spur gear and at least one of its internal teeth meshes with two neighboring external teeth of the spur gear or vice versa. The rear sides of the internal and external teeth are formed with punched indentations to compensate for shrinkage of the top lands of such teeth as a result of punching. Each indentation resembles the frustum of a pyramid and is designed to effect the flow of material toward the top land of the respective tooth. The two leaves are coupled to each other by a shaft which defines therefor two parallel pivot axes.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1984Date of Patent: January 7, 1986Assignee: Keiper Recaro GmbH & Co.Inventor: Horst Jorg

Patent number: 4373126Abstract: An improved machining process using electro-erosion to form integral hinges in rods in making flexible and/or electric suspension blades for various industrial devices. The machining process includes repeatedly eroding a rod alternately on two opposite sides to form two curved indentations, one on each side of the rod at a given point along its length, using a curved cylindrical electrode, so that the rod is progressively narrowed at this point until the required thickness of hinge is obtained. The process may also include, using as reference planes, to position the eroding electrode accurately, surfaces of a frame to which the rods have been attached. In this way, the rods are accurately prepositioned and thin hinges are produced with a repeatable high accuracy.Products made by this process include a pendulum-type accelerometer and an elastic support for a gyroscope useful in aeronautical applications.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1980Date of Patent: February 8, 1983Assignee: SfenaInventor: Franz Schilling

Patent number: 4321737Abstract: The tool includes a rotatable shank having a guide member releasably mounted upon its lower portion and adapted to be closely received within the muzzle portion of a gun barrel, and further includes a file member projecting radially outwardly from a medial portion of the shank and rotatable in unison with it. The file member overlies and engages the muzzle end surfaces of the barrel and, upon rotation of the shank of the tool, it "squares" and otherwise finishes such surfaces. The means by which the file member is mounted preferably is of a releasable type that includes a supportive backing member. The extent of the radial projection of the file member from the shank preferably is such that when the tool is used in association with a double-barreled firearm, it simultaneously finishes all of the muzzle end surfaces thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1980Date of Patent: March 30, 1982Inventor: Jack McIntyre

Patent number: 4177545Abstract: A method and product in which a stud or rivet-like element is secured in a base or two elements are hingedly connected by means of a pin, in which the stud or pin is prevented from rotating relative to at least one element. The at least one element is provided with a non-circular hole into which the pin is inserted and then upset so as to assume the non-circular shape. The stud or pin is of the semi-tubular type having a bore of critical length, relative to the thickness of the at least one element, so as to confine upsetting substantially to the depth of the non-circular hole.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1976Date of Patent: December 11, 1979Assignee: The Stanley Works, LimitedInventor: Martin R. Patent number: 4175315Abstract: There is disclosed an all plastic hinge for hanging conventionally sized doors for buildings and the like. Means are provided to prevent the pin from rising out of the passage afforded by the hinge halves by establishing a preferred direction of pin movement in the pin inserting direction. An enlargement in the pin receiving passage is created by differentially shrinking the knuckle surrounding the passage during the process of manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1977Date of Patent: November 27, 1979Inventors: Frank F. Patent number: 4141123Abstract: A plug is offered to make relatively easy and simple the assembly and pre-torquing of a spring-loaded hinge for doors and the like. These hinges comprise a pair of hinge leaves, each leaf defining at least one hollow hinge knuckle aligned with a hinge knuckle defined on the opposite leaf. Through the knuckles, a bi-ended torsion spring mechanism is inserted. A first plug is affixed within one hinge knuckle and engages one end of the torsion spring mechanism. At the opposite knuckle and second spring end, the novel second plug is affixed. This second plug includes a spring-engaging finger and a capstan body adapted to fit snugly within the knuckle. Atop the capstan body is a removable head which can be grasped by a wrench or like torsioning device. After this second plug is inserted in the hinge, the spring end is grasped and torqued by rotating the plug.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1977Date of Patent: February 27, 1979Assignee: Lawrence Brothers, Inc.Inventor: Robert L. Patent number: 4137663Abstract: A breech plug for sealing the breech end of black powder guns is constructed of two pieces. The first piece is an inner plug which threadedly engages internal threads at the breech end of the barrel and creates a bore seal. The second piece is an outer housing adapted to mate with the inner plug and to effect alignment with the barrel flat sides and barrel breech end. An assembly technique utilizing this composite breech plug greatly simplifies the machining procedures and reduces the cost normally associated with producing high quality black powder guns with a full hook breech plug.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1978Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Assignee: Browning Arms CompanyInventor: Leland A. Patent number: 4053249Abstract: An apparatus and method for precision overboring a variable diameter existing bore through a metal shaft supported in a position that causes the shaft to sag along its longitudinal axis. A plurality of precision-formed tool pilots are selectively mounted ahead of a spade bit on a rotary boring tool to maintain the path of the bit through the shaft-workpiece within a predetermined tolerance of the path followed by an existing bore. A plurality of fluted follower bearings are positioned around the tool driving shaft to minimize its vibration as the bit proceeds through the workpiece. Liquid coolant is passed at high volume into engagement with the bit and thence through the follower bearing exhaust passageways to flush metal shavings and chips from the overbore. According to the method of the invention, tool vibration is carefully monitored as the bit is forced into the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1976Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Phillip D. Patent number: 4010524Abstract: There is disclosed a manufacture of a continuous hinge. The process is as follows. A metal strip is fed intermittently by a predetermined length towards a press-machining station where the strip is simultaneously cut and bent to form a hole, flap, swaged flap and loop during the stoppage of the strip. The strip having loops is cut into predetermined length to form leaves for a hinge. A pair of leaves are assembled by inserting a pintle through the aligned loops, and the assembly is reformed by roll means.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1975Date of Patent: March 8, 1977Inventors: Akashi Osamu, Nakamura Masazo
