  • Patent number: 4027374
Abstract: Cylindrical water tanks, such as used for water softeners, inherently corrode at the bottom and herein is taught that the tanks are repaired by removing the bottom dish with the use of a novel tool that moves around the tank and bears thereagainst with a substantially uniform force thereby readily following the tank's contour, by sandblasting the interior for cleaning, by installing a new bottom dish to the cylindrical body with the use of a novel tool that automatically stops further penetration of the dish into the tank when a predetermined overall height of the tank is obtained, by welding the bottom dish to the body, by coating the interior with a non-corrosive plastic with the use of a novel spray gun apparatus that radially sprays the liquid plastic onto the inner walls of the tank as the spray nozzle moves axially therein and then the spray nozzle is adjusted to cause the spray to form an upward diverging cone to coat the underside of the top cover, and finally by allowing the plastic to harden.

  • Patent number: 4027373
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing a flow control device mounted between two opposed flanges of a pipeline wherein the flanges are clamped together by a plurality of studs. The method comprises the steps of clamping a pair of axially expandable flange spreaders to hold the opposed flanges in axial aligned position. Next, all of the studs are removed or loosened to permit access to the flow control device. Stop means are appended to the flange spreaders at the inside basis of the flanges. Lastly, the flange spreaders are expanded to permit removal of the flow control device from the pipeline. Reversal of the procedure will permit reassembly of the pipeline. Each of the flange spreaders comprises a pair of interconnected members that are axially expandable or contractable, and initially are clamped in position to hold the opposing flanges in axial alignment.

  • Patent number: 3994059
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling oil filter components is disclosed. The components include a spring guide element which centers a filter element when assembled within a filter canister. Invention is based on the discovery that when the spring guide element is pushed horizontally into the canister by the filter element, the leading edge of the spring guide element automatically slides up the dome shaped bottom of the canister to its proper upright position without need for manual (individual) handling. An assembly machine is also disclosed which provides feed chutes for supplying the canisters, spring guide elements, and filter elements to troughs on a conveyor belt. A stationary bar cam is provided for effecting a force vector in a direction which pushes the filter element and, in turn, the spring guide element into the canister. Alternate embodiments are also disclosed wherein the components may be assembled by centrifugal force, gravity or direct plunger action.

  • Patent number: 3961407
Abstract: Construction elements comprising two parallel nailable plates interconnected by corrugated metallic web sheets extending edgewise between them and having teeth at their edges embedded in the plates are made by placing the bottom plate thereof in a movable frame having displaceable abutments connected to clamping means. The web sheets are placed in positions so as to be clamped at their extremities by the clamping means, the extremities of longitudinal sheets being pinched in folds of transverse end sheets. Also, interlocking deformations are punched in the adjoining webs. The clamping means are moved for stretching the sheets, the upper plate is placed on top, and web sheets and plates are brought into correct relative positions by corresponding positioning of the abutments. In addition longitudinal web sheets extending along edges of the element are supported externally between clamping points by spring-loaded rulers connected to abutments so as to ensure correct spacing from the plate edges.
