  • Patent number: 11382617
Abstract: A suture attaching station attaches a needle and a suture to form a single combination. The setup of the crimping unit is facilitated by using an offline measuring fixture. The offline measuring fixture is calibrated by placing a precision gage block into the measuring fixture and then zeroing a digital measuring unit. The gage block is then replaced by the desired crimping die and the reading is noted as an offset for the servo drive of the suture attaching station. This offset is used to set the zero point of the crimping die centre.

  • Patent number: 9527172
Abstract: In order to reliably ensure a press-in connection between joining elements, in particular a press-in nut and a pre-punched component, a press-in device contains a die which has a die ring and a die mandrel. The die mandrel is mounted counter to a spring force in the manner of a pilot pin. In addition, the die ring is also mounted counter to a spring force such that a two-stage press-in operation is carried out. Preferably, during a first press-in stage an anti-rotation lock is formed between the press-in nut and the component and in a second press-in stage an axial pull-out prevention measure is formed. To this end, the die mandrel deforms a nut flange.

  • Publication number: 20130318791
Abstract: A fluidic artificial muscle actuator consisting of an inner elastic bladder surrounded by a braided filament sleeve and sealed off on either end with end fittings. Pressurization of the actuator produces force and/or motion through radial movement of the bladder and sleeve which forces the sleeve to move axially. Both contractile and extensile motions are possible depending on the geometry of the braided sleeve. The fluidic artificial muscle actuator is manufactured using a swaging process which plastically deforms swage tubes around the end fittings, braided sleeve, and pressure bladder, creating a strong mechanical clamping action that may be augmented with adhesive bonding of the components. The swaging system includes the swaging die and associated components which are used to plastically deform the swage tube during assembly of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 6571459
Abstract: With reference to FIG. 3 the present invention relates to a method of manufacture of a product from a first component (4) of deformable material and a second component (5), the method comprising the steps of: inserting a portion of the first component (4) through an aperture predefined in the second component (5); and subsequently deforming the material of the first component (4) to form a pair of spaced apart shoulders (50) integral with the first component (4), the spaced apart shoulders (50) holding therebetween the second component (5) and thereby preventing the second component (5) sliding along the first component (4); wherein: each shoulder (50) is formed by applying tool means (20, 21) to a surface of the first component (4) to create a recess in the surface and to form the shoulder (50) adjacent to the recess with the shoulder (50) being formed by displacement of the deformable material of the first component (4) during the creation of the recess.

  • Patent number: 6523239
Abstract: A die and method of assembling a high torque capacity metal spool. The spool comprises a cylindrical barrel, a pair of flanges and a pair of flange hubs. The die includes a support member and a curling member that is adapted to move relative to the support housing. The die is adapted to be driven towards a matching die to press a spool therebetween. Each curling member includes an annular curling face which is adapted to curl and compress metal edges of the cylindrical barrel, the flanges and the flange hubs into tightened curls. The tightened curls secure the cylindrical barrel with the flanges and flange hubs. Each die further includes a plurality of nibs carried by the support housings which project outward from the curling face of the curling member after the tightened curls have been formed to swage a plurality of detents into the tightened curls of the spool. The resulting detents in the metal spool provide for increased torque transfer between the flanges, the flange hubs and the cylindrical barrel.

  • Patent number: 6360577
Abstract: An apparatus for manipulating a medical device is formed of at least three coupled movable blades which are disposed about a reference circle to form an aperture whose size may be varied. The aperture capable of being sized to contain a medical device. Each blade is in communication with an actuation device which is capable of moving the blade to alter the size of the aperture. Each blade includes a single radial point which a) lies on the circumference of the reference circle prior to movement of the blade, and b) may be moved only along a radius of the reference circle on movement of the blade.

  • Patent number: 6298533
Abstract: A disc cartridge assembling apparatus in which a protuberance formed on the inner surface of one of cartridge halves of a thermoplastic resin making up a main cartridge body unit is passed through a through-hole formed in the other cartridge half in register with the protuberance, and in which the distal end of the protuberance is thermally deformed to interconnect the cartridge halves. The upper and lower cartridge halves are stacked together, with a protuberance formed on the upper cartridge half being passed through the through-hole formed in the upper cartridge half, and are held by a holding mechanism. In this state, the distal end of the protuberance is thermally deformed by a caulking head, heated by a heater, and which is provided with a recess in its surface adapted to compress against the protuberance. Then, as the caulking head is moved away from the thermally deformed protuberance, the caulking head and the protuberance are cooled by a cooling mechanism.

Abstract: A feed head has a delivery path along which nuts are fed to a pressing station in the feed head, the pressing station having a pressing die which is reciprocated transversely to the delivery path under the action of a press to fasten a nut to a sheet metal member. A cam is provided to reciprocate the pressing die manually to facilitate clearance of blockages in the feed head, and also to hold the pressing die in its lowered position to allow operation of the press without operating the die. A sensor for detecting nuts at the pressing station is positioned on the end of the delivery path, enabling a narrower feed head design. A electrical coupling and nut delivery tube are integrated to facilitate connection in confined spaces.
