  • Patent number: 4807345
Abstract: A manually operated clip attachment apparatus or clipper has a generally planar main body plate which includes a longitudinal punch guide and clip channel. The lower end of the channel supports a die. A window is provided in the side of the channel for receipt of a clip. An open throat above the lower end of the channel and die is provided for placement of the deformable or flexible casing or bag material and thus defines a throat opening. A punch moves longitudinal in the clip channel to engage a single clip and move it along the channel about the gathered material and into contact with the die. A manual lever arm is pivotally attached to the main plate at one end. The opposite end includes a handle for operation of the lever arm. Intermediate the pivot end and the handle is a bearing surface which engages a follower cam attached to the punch. The lever arm is biased to a punch disengage position.

  • Patent number: 4780942
Abstract: A hand tool for pulling a fuel injector outwardly from a seated location in an engine. The tool comprises an elongated shaft portion having a handle at one end thereof, a gripping section at the other end thereof and a push support means located at an intermediate point between the handle and the gripping section. The handle has a size and shape to facilitate the hand gripping thereof. The gripping section includes a reaching portion extending outwardly from the end of the shaft portion and a part-engaging portion extending away from a distal end of the reaching portion. The push support means extends outwardly from the shaft portion to provide a fulcrum pivot point about which the handle and gripping section pivot. The part-engaging portion is shaped to grasp the part to be pulled outwardly from the seated location when a force is applied to the handle in a direction to cause relative movement of the part-engaging portion with respect to the fulcrum pivot point.

  • Patent number: 4748730
Abstract: A unitary tool assembly is disclosed for making up bell and spigot joints to couple adjacent pipe sections. The tool includes forward and rearward pipe engaging subassemblies and an intermediate linkage mechanism. The forward subassembly, which straddles a pipe section having a bell end, includes a reciprocative actuator which, through the linkage mechanism, selectively causes toothed cams carried by the rearward subassembly to engage and disengage a pipe section having a spigot end and straddled by the rearward subassembly. When the actuator delivers a power stroke, the toothed cams securely engage the pipe section with the spigot end, and the rearward subassembly is simultaneously pulled toward the forward subassembly such that successive strokes of the actuator effect a ratcheting action in which the bell and spigot joint is made up through a series of stepwise movements of the pipe sections together.

  • Patent number: 4433462
Abstract: These tools efficiently and rapidly remove a snap ring and clips by initially applying a torque thereto along the length of the flat portion of the clip or along the annular length of the ring. When such rings and clips are thus stressed to a limited degree they exhibit resilient twisting or torsion about such axis. The tools are adapted to then displace the portion of the smap ring or clip that provides a locking action on the groove to which the ring or clip was attached in a direction in part at least perpendicular to the wide flat surface of the portion of the snap ring or clip in the vicinity of that then resiliently twisted portion of the ring or clip and so move that portion of the ring that initially provided locking action on the groove therefor in a direction parallel to or along the wider initial plan or surface of the snap of the snap ring or clip surface. Such movement controllably and readily disengages the locking portion of the snap ring or clip.

  • Patent number: 4433476
Abstract: Press element insertion apparatus (86) is a press-like apparatus used to insert pins (82) or sockets (82) into a cable connector (84). Clamp (104) is adapted to securely hold a pin (82) or socket (82) with a conductor attached for insertion into a cable connector (84). Clamp (104) readily releases the pin (82) or socket (82) after insertion into a cable connector (84) by operating lever operated cam (120) which releases movable jaw member (118). Internal springs (122) cause movable jaw member (118) to laterally release pin (82) or socket (82). The cable connector support (90,92) is a two-axis position guide that prevents cable connector (84) from rotating during cable fabrication while simultaneously providing two degrees of freedom that are necessary to insert pins (82) and sockets (82) in an array (86) of element insertion locations.

  • Patent number: 4413399
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for precisely positioning an object such as a circuit module (12, 108) by moving it a fixed distance from an unknown initial position, for the purpose, for example, of moving connector pins a fixed distance into associated socket connector springs (136). A resilient spring (40, 42, 100) is compressed between a fixed stop (18, 20, 90) and a member (48, 106) which engages the object; so that the object is moved an unknown distance (A, B, C) to an initial position determined by its encountering resistance which exceeds the force applied by the spring, such as the resistance provided by connector springs when connector pins are inserted. The compression existing in the bias spring is maintained when the initial position is reached while concurrently the engaging member (48, 106) is moved a fixed distance from the initial position, such as the desired insertion distance of connector pins into connector springs.
