  • Patent number: 5678291
Abstract: A machine tool more particularly for drilling and milling, possesses a machine bed, on which a power driven longitudinal slide is adapted to run horizontally on rails. A machining head having a rotary drive device for at least one table forming part of said head, is power moved on the longitudinal slide in at least one further direction movement. The machine bed possesses two spaced lateral walls, on which the longitudinal slide is at least partly guided and whose intermediate space is designed in the form of a machining zone. On each of the two lateral walls a fastening point is provided for at least one pivoting work holding device, the two fastening points being aligned in a horizontal line, which defines a pivot axis, athwart the longitudinal direction of the guide rails. In such an arrangement the work holding means is readily accessible and is easy to service and furthermore may be simply replaced.

  • Patent number: 5090279
Abstract: A vertical spindle pedestal, especially for attachment to a lathe, which vertical spindle pedestal includes a vertical column and a motor driven vertical spindle vertically adjustable relative to the column, the vertical column being a hollow one on which a spindle housing is vertically slidably supported. A tension band is attached to the housing and guided over a reversing roll carried by the upper end of the column to a free end connected to a tension spring located inside the hollow column and anchored to it, the vertical column further carrying means for vertically adjusting the spindle housing along its length. The means for vertically adjusting the spindle housing includes a rotatable vertical lead screw supported by the upper end of the vertical column for rotation and against axial shifting which lead screw cooperates with a lead screw nut fixed to the spindle housing.

  • Patent number: 4856153
Abstract: A spindle mechanism is capable of rotating for a rotative tool and is capable of being locked for mounting a nonrotative tool. First and second curvic couplings may be forced into engagement by a large hydraulic force which concurrently unloads a combined thrust and radial bearing at the outboard end of the support. This permits the spindle, when mounting a nonrotative tool, to be rigidly supported in a nonrotative condition. A smaller hydraulic force may be utilized to move the spindle axially inwardly which disengages the first and second curvic couplings and preloads the combined thrust and radial bearing providing a properly preloaded rotational mode of support when the spindle is mounting a rotative tool. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.
