  • Patent number: 7650677
Abstract: A tool and method is provided for installing nut-clips or like components, wherein safety and ease of installation are significantly improved over the prior art, and installation time is substantially reduced. A useful embodiment is directed to apparatus for use in attaching a nut-clip or other hardware component to structure having a slot defined by spaced apart edges, wherein the nut-clip has first and second resilient spaced apart hook flanges. The apparatus includes a holder adapted to receive the nut-clip, and a blade member positioned to bear against the first flange member when the nut-clip is received into the holder. A magnet or other element is provided for releasably retaining the nut-clip in the holder. A handle, which can be grasped by the single hand of a user, is attached for maneuvering the holder and retained nut-clip to position the second flange against one of the slot edges, and to thereafter apply force, through the blade member, to reduce the spacing between the first and second flanges.

Abstract: The invention is related to a tube extracting device for compressing a tube end extended from a conventional drum of a boiler to remove the tube. The device includes a housing comprised of an outer clamping plate and an inner clamping plate pivotally connected by a pin. A grip for receiving the tube extends down from the housing. A hydraulically-powered ram moves the outer clamping plate relative to the inner clamping plate so that the grip closes around and compresses the tube. The power to the hydraulic ram is then shut, springs return the outer clamping plate and the inner clamping plate to their original position, which, in turn opens the grip so that the removed tube can be released from the device. The device is then lifted by a handle and the tube is removed from the drum.

Abstract: Radio frequency cables have a inner circular conductor and an outer circular conductor. The inner and outer circular conductors are usually formed from copper and are separated by a heavy insulation layer usually cellular polyethylene. The outer side of the outer conductor may further be coated with a heavy polymeric insulation layer. In preparing these radio frequency cables for coupling it is necessary to have a flush cut surface. These flush cuts have been effected in the past by sawing, which has proved to be troublesome as metallic particles are dispersed throughout the insulation. The outer conductor may be prepared for coupling by: 1. Placing a tear collar over the outer conductor and 2. Tearing the outer conductor against the tear collar. This tearing creates an integral and desirable flange in the tearing process.

  • Patent number: 6279216
Abstract: A tool for extracting a press fit pin from a pin field in a backplane of an electronic system. The tool includes a shaft having first and second ends, with a chuck mounted to the first end and an abutment mounted to the second end. The chuck has a plurality of jaws adapted to grip the pin therebetween and a weight is slidably mounted on the shaft between the chuck and the abutment. After a pin is held by the chuck, the weight is slid along the shaft to contact the abutment and the kinetic energy imparted by the weight to the shaft acts to pull the pin out of the backplane.

  • Patent number: 6240615
Abstract: A stent crimping tool for firmly and uniformly crimping a stent onto a balloon catheter is constructed from a crimping section holding the stent and the balloon catheter therein, wherein the crimping is actuated by a shaft having an input end and an output end, engaging the crimping section at the output end. The shaft has a detent formed into the input end. A gripping member has an internal cavity to receive the input end, and includes a hole proximate to the shaft, wherein a ball bearing and a compression spring are located within the hole to bias the ball bearing toward the shaft and to engage the detent. When a torque is applied to the gripping member, it is transmitted through the ball bearing to the shaft; if the torque exceeds a predetermined magnitude, it overcomes the force of the spring on the ball bearing causing the bearing to slide out of the detent thereby disconnecting the applied torque from the shaft. The crimping section can be a rubber tube having a lumen holding the stent and catheter.

Abstract: A combined nozzle set and lift tool is provided for use with a pop-up sprinkler, wherein the lift tool comprises a tool body in the form of an injection molded runner formed integrally with a plurality of individual nozzle inserts. An elongated tool stem projects outwardly from the tool body and has protruding tabs at a tip end thereof for reception into an undercut recess formed in a pop-up sprinkler spray head to permit lifting of the spray head from a normal position spring-retracted substantially within a sprinkler housing or case, to an elevated position for facilitated access to the spray head. A selected one of the plurality of nozzle inserts can be separated from the lift tool as by snap-off detachment, whereupon the selected nozzle insert can be mounted on the elevated spray head to individually tailor the characteristics of a water stream projected therefrom during normal sprinkler operation.

Abstract: A tube pulling apparatus has a body having a hydraulic fluid feeder tube extending to the body to pass oil under pressure therethrough. An inner shaft in the body has a hollow portion slidably mounted over the feeder tube and receives oil in an open area in the inner shaft. An inner piston is connected to the inner shaft and positioned to move the inner shaft responsive to oil pressure from a pair of oil lines. An outer shaft is slidably mounted over the inner shaft and has an outer piston connected thereto and positioned to move the outer shaft responsive to oil pressure from the oil lines. A spool valve is formed between the inner and outer shafts for activating the outer piston upon a predetermined movement of the inner shaft inside the outer shaft and a tube gripping mechanism is connected to both the inner and outer shafts for gripping and pulling a tube therewith by sliding the inner shaft to activate the gripping jaws and sliding the outer shaft to pull the gripped tube.

  • Patent number: 6085402
Abstract: A method of removal and insertion of a bearing insert from a skate wheel is performed utilizing a bearing insert tool. The bearing insert has a central axial bore corresponding to the diameter of a central axial bore of a spacing element. An annular groove is formed on an inner circumference of the spacing element. The bearing insert tool has a shaft containing spring activated nipples on a distal end from a head portion. A button on the tool operates the spring. To remove a bearing insert the button is depressed retracting the nipples. The shaft is then inserted within the central axial bore of the bearing insert and spacing element. The nipples are released and allowed to engage the annular groove. Force is exerted in an axial direction away from the skate wheel causing the bearing insert and spacing element to be removed from the hub of the skate wheel.
