  • Patent number: 7117578
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a composite component from a plastic structure (1, 25, 31, 37) and a metal body (4, 25, 35, 40) by bringing together joining tools (11, 13). Plastic structure (1, 25, 31, 37) and metal body (4, 25, 35, 40) are joined by penetration, which takes place when contact surfaces (12, 14) of the joining tools (11, 13) are brought together, of tamped edges into the plastic structure (1, 25, 31, 37), in such a manner that a permanent, positive and non-positive connection (34) is formed.

  • Patent number: 7096554
Abstract: A system for protecting a stent from contact during loading comprises a stent, a protective sleeve disposed about the stent and a loading tool. The inner diameter of the protective sleeve is greater than the outer diameter of the stent. The protective sleeve has a length longer than that of the stent. The portion of the sleeve extending beyond the length of the stent defines a sleeve extension. The loading tool is positioned about at the stent retaining sleeve of a catheter. The tip region of the loading tool separates the protective sleeve and the stent from one another when the protective sleeve is pulled over the tip region of the loading tool. When the protective sleeve is pulled over the tip region of the loading tool the stent is advanced into a lumen defined by the stent retaining sleeve of the catheter.

  • Patent number: 7047617
Abstract: A self-piercing element including a shank, a radial flange and a tubular barrel. The flange includes spaced concave surfaces and the annular bearing surface has an area at least four times the concave surfaces. The element is installed in a panel supported on a female die including a central die post, wherein the outer side wall is a frustoconical having an included angle between five and twelve degrees. During installation, the tubular barrel pierces an opening in the panel and the panel is drawn against the outer surface of the tubular barrel and the barrel is deformed into a U-shape. The flange is simultaneously received in the die cavity and the panel is incrementally deformed radially into the concave surfaces between the frustoconical side wall and the flange portion providing improved torque resistance.

  • Patent number: 7043954
Abstract: An apparatus and method for straightening propeller drive shafts without the need for removing the shaft from the lower unit/drive assembly is disclosed. In an embodiment of the present invention, a mechanical linkage is provided that is configured to securely grip the propeller drive shaft and that is mechanically coupled to an extension module. The extension module may be a hydraulic ram that provides a linear force. The linkage is configured to receive the linear force from the extension module and transfer the linear force to the propeller drive shaft. Because the propeller drive shaft is securely fixed within the linkage and within the lower unit/drive assembly, the force applied to the propeller drive shaft is operative to bend the propeller drive shaft opposite of the existing bend in order to straighten it.

  • Patent number: 7010953
Abstract: A swaging machine is configured to substantially uniformly reduce the diameter of a tubular attachment, such as a marker band, to result in a smooth and repeatable finished part. The swaging machine comprises a feed system, an impact system, and a rotation system. A split die having a compound die cavity is provided for use in conjunction with the swaging machine to receive an impact force from the impact system and, in turn, apply a swaging force to the marker band. The rotation system rotates the impact system, including the die, about the axis of the marker band to apply swaging forces about the circumference of the marker band, while the feed system feeds the marker band through the die thereby applying swaging forces along the length of the marker band.

Abstract: A system and method for accomplishing localized feature forming in a sheet of material and/or the localized joining of multiple sheets of material. The system and method may also be used to attach a secondary component to a sheet of material. The system and method of the present invention employs a die having a shaped cavity for receiving a portion of the sheet material. Abstract: A stent compression method for particular use in pre-surgical securing and conforming of a vascular stent upon an angioplasty balloon. One variation of the stent compression method comprises inflating an agioplasty balloon inside a vascular stent in order to secure the vascular stent upon the balloon; applying uniform compression pressure around the balloon/stent unit; and adjusting the internal balloon pressure and the compression pressure so that the balloon/stent unit is compressed. A pressure chamber with an elastic cylindrical membrane mounted inside the chamber may be used to provide the compression pressure. The inflated balloon provides the balancing pressure from inside the stent. The maintenance of internal balloon pressure during the stent compression process may provide uniform distribution of pressure along the stent and even radial compression rate around the circumferential surface of the stent.

Abstract: The disclosed apparatus is a tool for adjusting a hinge. The tool comprises a head having a first jaw portion and an opposite-facing second jaw portion. The first jaw portion and the second jaw portion define an opening which has the same shape as a cross-section of the knuckles of the hinge. The apparatus further comprises a handle attached to the head. Because the tool engages the knuckles of the hinge at the back of the knuckles, there is no unsightly scratching of the hinge. A method of use of the tool is also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method, a tool and a punch (1) for joining a sunken punch to one or more metal plates (2, 3). According to said method, in a single step, the plate or plates are deep-drawn into a deep-draw opening (5) of a female mould or then possibly crushed so that the displaced material fixes and joins the punch (1) to the plate or plates in a positive fit. The punch (1) may present further possibilities for engagement for creating a connection to other components.

  • Patent number: 6722020
Abstract: A workpiece table assembly is configured to hold a plurality of workpieces (e.g. conductive strands) so that the workpieces can be modified (e.g. bent). In one embodiment, the workpiece table assembly advantageously comprises a table, a saddle, a lift mechanism, and a die. The saddle is advantageously recessed below the table and raised or lowered by the lift mechanism. The table advantageously has a top surface with holes adapted to accept quick-release pins from a step-off board. The step-off board also has notches to accept and position the strands for die pressing. In one exemplary operation, the step-off board is used to stagger the strands over the down-positioned saddle. The saddle is then raised by the lift mechanism and the die placed within the saddle on top of the strands. A force is applied to the die to bend the strands.

Abstract: The invention relates to press tools for the connection, by cold forming, of tubular workpieces (2, 3) whose connection regions are provided with circular external cross-sectional shapes and are pushed one into the other. The press jaws (10) of the press tool have, in the closed state, approximately the external cross-sectional shape of the workpieces and can be provided with recesses (13, 17). Such a press tool may also have only two press jaws (10) and one bearing bolt (4). As a result of drive forces (F) introduced into the tool, cold-forming forces are exerted on the workpieces (2, 3) via said tool. Depending on manufacturing tolerances of the workpieces (2, 3), the distance (A) between the press jaws (10) varies.
