Abstract: A gasket singulation apparatus for separating one gasket from a web-connected stack of gaskets includes a mandrel for receiving the web-connected stack and an arrangement of cylinders which are used to support the web-connected stack of gaskets and to pull one gasket away from the remainder of the web-connected stack so as to singulate that one gasket. A first plurality of cylinders are used to support the web-connected stack. A second plurality of cylinders are used to pierce any connecting material between the gasket to be singulated and the remainder of the stack. Once the web material is pierced, cylinder movement is effected so as to pull the selected gasket away from the stack, allowing any connecting material to sever and thereby singulate one gasket from the stack. Once the gasket is singulated, various insertion mechanisms are disclosed for inserting the singulated gasket into a pail lid groove.

Abstract: Manufacturing an inkjet printhead and orifice plate by providing upstanding spaced apart barrier walls on the orifice plate to separate adjacent firing chambers on the printhead. A plurality of orifice plates are initially created in a one-layer array on a workpiece. An abrasive member is controlled to contact and truncate end edge portions of the barrier walls on the workpiece to create mutually coplanar surfaces for engagement with a substrate in order to help prevent cross-talk between adjacent firing chambers.

Abstract: Magnetic heads capable of recording and reading with high sensitivity and resolution are provided by minimizing the outflow of magnetic fluxes from a flux guide to magnetic shields while using a flux guide structure for an MR element. In the magnetic head, magnetic shields exposed on a surface opposite a magnetic recording medium (air bearing surface) and a flux guide exposed between the magnetic heads via a non-magnetic layer are provided, and magnetic heads via a non-magnetic layer are provided, and magnetic fluxes are guided by the flux guide to a magnetoresistive (MR) element formed in a position not exposed on the air bearing surface. The height of the magnetic shields in a direction perpendicular to the air bearing surface is less than the distance from the air bearing surface to the MR element, and the lengthwise direction of the magnetic shields is in parallel to the air bearing surface in the vicinity of the position in which the flux guide is formed.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for forming a contact member cable. The cable is a longer version of a contact member and can then be cut into shorter, individual contact members, to meet the particular requirements for a specific connector application. The contact members can be used as the conductive elements for a family of land grid array connectors that provide, among other things, a low profile, uniform electrical and mechanical performance, and reworkability if a contact member is damaged. The connectors are intended to interconnect electrical circuit members such as printed circuit boards, circuit modules, or the like. Such circuit members may be used in information handling system (computer) or telecommunications environments.

  • Patent number: 6705617
Abstract: A hydrodynamic shaft seal formed with a spiral hydrodynamic channel in which successive turns of the channel are of progressively diminishing volume toward an air side of the seal. The channel is made by forming a spirally extending first cut in a surface of the seal, and forming a spirally extending second cut in the surface of the seal adjacent to the first cut such that the first and second cuts intersect below the surface of the seal to produce a spiral channel. The spiral of the first cut has a lead different from the lead of the second cut such that the channel is of progressively diminishing volume along its length. Alternatively, the second cut may have the same lead as the first cut for the first few turns, after which the lead of the second cut may be reduced, to provide a channel of constant volume for the first few turns, followed by a channel portion of reduced volume.
