Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing the sensors for monitoring corrosion of heat exchanger tubes in a thermal power plant. The sensor is made of the tubes taken out from actual heat-exchanger. As a result, the sensor not only has the same material as the actual heat-exchanger tubes, but also has the same surface state where it contacts the working medium. Therefore, a serious technical difficulties have been solved that the sensor made by the prior art can't measure different corrosion states of actual heat-exchanger tubes, that the corrosion rate measured is different from the corrosion rate of actual heat-exchanger tubes, and that the cost of anti-corrosive treatments is high . By use of the sensor made by the present invention, the different corrosion states of actual heat-exchanger tubes can be measured, not only the rate of uniform corrosion of actual heat-exchanger tubes can be measured but also the rate of localized corrosion of the heat-exchanger tubes can be measured.

Abstract: A battery replacement system and method for electronic devices which does not require a back-up battery or storage capacitor. A battery is placed within a tunnel formed in the electronic device. The tunnel has an input opening and an output opening. During use, the battery resides within the tunnel where it makes electrical contact with the power terminals of the device. When the battery is exhausted and needs to be replaced, a new battery is introduced into the tunnel via the input opening. As the new battery enters the tunnel, it makes electrical contact with the power terminals, while at the same time serving to push the exhausted battery out the output opening of the tunnel. The tunnel is configured such that the new battery makes electrical contact with the power terminals before the exhausted battery loses contact with the terminals. In this way, there is no interruption in power being supplied to the electronic device.

Abstract: An improved high performance aluminum connecting rod and a method for manufacturing such a connecting rod are disclosed, the connecting rod being capable of carrying particularly high compressive loads with a substantially reduced deformation resulting from such high compressive loads. In the preferred embodiment, the connecting rod of the present invention is made of an extruded bar stock forging made of an aluminum alloy material which is forged and machined to make the connecting rod. The connecting rod of the present invention has a substantially increased compressive yield strength as well as a substantially increased tensile yield strength. This increase in the compressive yield strength of the connecting rod of the present invention effectively prevents bending of the connecting rod beam, elongation of the wrist pin bore, and a marked deterioration in the roundness of the bearing housing bore.

Abstract: A cube corner article and method of manufacturing the article from a series of unitary substrates. A plurality of pins are assembled to form a mold having an array of cube corner elements on a surface. Then, a replica of the cube corner element array is produced in a substrate suitable for forming retroreflective surfaces. Portions of the replica substrate material are removed. The removal of these portions forms at least one cavity bounded by side walls in the replica at a depth at least that of the cube cube corner elements. The replica is replicated to produce an additional directly machinable substrate suitable for forming retroreflective surfaces having at least one raised section having sidewalls at a height at least that of the cube corner elements. At least one raised section is directly machined to form an array of cube corner elements.

  • Patent number: 5566449
Abstract: A connecting rod as a shaft clamping member includes a rod member and cap, each of which has mating faces at circumferentially opposite ends of a semi-circular recess and which are fastened to each other by bolts by matching the opposed mating faces to each other to define a crank pin hole by the two semi-circular recesses. The rod member and the cap are forgings formed from an aluminum alloy and simultaneously produced by forging powder preforms of the rod member and cap in a cavity having the desired shape of the connecting rod. After forging, the opposed mating faces have an infinite number of recesses and projections which are formed from the flow of the material during the forging and which are in a matched and fitted relation to each other. Thus, any misalignment between and in a direction parallel to the mating faces can be prevented to avoid the generation of a situation that only the rod member receives a stress. This achieves a prolongation in the life of the connecting rod of the aluminum alloy.
