Once the workpieces have been aligned against this side, the workpieces are then moved toward an adjacent orthogonal side such that the workpieces are aligned to two sides of the cell. Once aligned, the workpiece is held in place by the projections located along each side of each cell. In addition, the alignment pins are also used to align the associated mask, thereby guaranteeing that the mask is properly aligned to the workpiece.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that enable a first bank, or array, of multi-optical fiber connector modules disposed in a plug that is mounted on a first structure to be simultaneously blind mated with a second bank of multi-optical fiber connector modules disposed on a receptacle that is mounted on a second structure. As the first and second structures are brought into engagement with one another, passive coarse alignment features on the plug and on the receptacle coarsely align the respective connector modules with one another. Then, as the respective connector modules begin to come into contact with one another, passive fine alignment features on the respective connector modules engage one another to finely align the respective connector modules such that their optical pathways are brought into precise optical alignment with one another.

Abstract: An alignment system includes first, second and third components. A plurality of upstanding elastic tubes, each having a tube wall, extending from the first component. A plurality of apertures, each having an aperture wall, is formed in the second component and the third component, the plurality of apertures are geometrically distributed in coordinated relationship to a geometrical distribution of the plurality of elastic tubes such that each elastic tube is receivable into a respective aperture. When each elastic tube is received into its respective aperture an elastic deformation occurs at an interface between the tube wall and the aperture wall. The elastic deformation is responsive to each tube wall having a diameter larger than a cross-section of its respective aperture. The elastic deformation is elastic averaged over the plurality of elastic tubes such that the first component is precisely located relative to the second component and the third component.
