  • Patent number: 11051812
Abstract: A surgical stapler includes a jaw assembly at a distal end connected to a handle assembly that is configured to control the stapler and actuate the deployment of staples. The surgical stapler successfully eliminates intermediate caming portions commonly known as pushers that are located between the staples and a translating slider. The staples are located in pockets at an angle such that the base of the staple is parallel to an angled caming surface of the slider. The translating slider comes into direct contact with staples during deployment as the slider moves through each staple pocket where staples are partially supported by recesses along the slider pathway. The staples are deployed at an angle against the anvil surface. Because there are no pushers, a great deal of space is saved resulting in a much smaller diameter surgical stapler that is particularly suitable for laparoscopic stapling applications.

  • Patent number: 10596631
Abstract: A method includes the sequential steps of compacting a powder metal in a tool and die set using a compaction press to form a powder metal compact, ejecting the powder metal compact from the tool and die set, positioning the powder metal compact relative to another part, and cooling the powder metal compact. When the powder metal is compacted, a temperature of the powder metal used to form the powder metal compact increases relative to ambient temperature due to deformation of the powder metal during compacting. After ejection and while the powder metal compact is still above ambient temperature, the compact is positioned relative to the other part. Then, upon the cooling of the powder metal compact, the powder metal compact dimensionally shrinks to form an interference fit between the powder metal compact and the other part thereby forming the composite component, which may be subsequently sintered.

Abstract: A mandrel for supporting a stent and rollers for pressing a radiopaque marker into a stent are disclosed. The mandrel can have a forward portion for carrying the stent and a rear portion for urging the stent forward portion into a gap between the rollers. The mandrel may be pushed or pulled into the gap, which is sized to allow the rollers to press the marker into engagement with the stent. Prior to moving the mandrel into the gap, the marker may be placed on a surface of the stent or partially inside a recess in the stent. Several markers can be efficiently and uniformly pressed onto the stent by moving the mandrel into the gap in one continuous movement in an axial or lateral direction. Markers can also be pressed onto the stent by placing the stent in the gap and rotating the stent about its central axis.
