Patent number: 8479379Abstract: Roots-type blowers with helical cycloidal rotors exhibit variation in leakback flow with angular position intrinsic to these rotor geometries. Calibration of individual blowers using a combination of high-resolution alignment and enhanced detection of residual noise phenomena permits noise in as-produced blowers to be significantly attenuated. Intrinsic lower limits of noise induced by leakback variation are associated with manufacturing tolerances, necessary clearances, and particular geometric considerations. Gross alignment errors (excluding contact between rotors) produce a characteristic noise pulse rate that is three times the shaft rate. Proper alignment suppresses this and reveals a pulse sequence at double this rate and at about half of the amplitude of faulty alignment. The novel process explains the error mechanisms and defines repeatable calibration methods for a mass-production environment, introducing appropriate gauges and methods for the task.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2008Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Assignee: CareFusion 202, Inc.Inventors: Todd W. Patent number: 8468687Abstract: In a component mounting apparatus, a picking member picks components and mounts them on a board through movements of a plurality of moving members driven by motors. The apparatus is provided with a regenerative electric power control section for controlling regenerative electric power produced by regenerating a motion energy when each of the motors is decelerated; power supply sections for the motors each for exchanging electric power with the regenerative electric power control section; and a control section. When two moving members are moved, the control section begins to start and accelerate one of the two moving members in synchronized relation with a timing of beginning to decelerate and stop the other moving member and controls the regenerative electric power control section to utilize a regenerative electric power which is obtained from the motor driving the other moving member, in starting the motor which drives the one moving member.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2011Date of Patent: June 25, 2013Assignee: Fuji Machine Mfg. Publication number: 20130152356Abstract: A method of removing unwanted material from an article having a variable form can include scanning the article and determining, based on the scanning, a location of the unwanted material, determining tool paths of a cutting tool which will result in removal of the unwanted material, and displacing the cutting tool along the tool paths, thereby removing the unwanted material. A material removal system for removing unwanted material from an oilfield drill bit can include a rotary indexing device which rotates the drill bit about a longitudinal axis of the drill bit, a scanning device which scans an outer surface of the drill bit, and a controller which determines a geometry of the drill bit, based on at least one scan by the scanning device, determines a location of the unwanted material, and determines tool paths of a cutting tool for removal of the unwanted material.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2011Publication date: June 20, 2013Applicants: DESIGN & ASSEMBLY CONCEPTS, INC., HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Clayton A. Patent number: 8424182Abstract: A fitting device and a fitting method, by which the fitting process can be carried out without damaging workpieces, even when a sufficient moment cannot be detected by pressing the workpiece in the fitting direction. The device includes a fitting status judging part adapted to judge whether a second workpiece is in motion in a fitting direction relative to a first workpiece; a workpiece orientation searching part adapted to change a current orientation of the second workpiece when it is judged that the second workpiece is not in motion in the fitting direction, and search a proper orientation for the second workpiece based on a detected force or speed of the second workpiece in the fitting direction, during the change of the orientation; and a fitting motion commanding part adapted to command a robot which grips the second workpiece to continue the fitting operation, by using the searched proper orientation.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2011Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: FANUC CorporationInventors: Takashi Sato, Nobuaki Yamaoka

Patent number: 8423191Abstract: A cast iron brake caliper with improved fatigue life, and a process and process equipment for pre-stressing a cast iron brake caliper to provide improved fatigue life, is provided. In the process, a load is applied to a cast iron caliper, where the load is high enough to locally yield and plastically deform the cast iron material, but not high enough to cause material failure, such as cracking. Upon load removal, residual compressive stresses in the cast iron caliper lower the mid-point of the stress range the plastically-deformed region of the caliper sees during in-service use, and thereby lowers the peak stress seen in this region, increasing fatigue life. The process permits a cast iron brake caliper to be designed to use less material and thus fit within constrained wheel rim envelopes, without the need to resort to high cost materials or other alternative design strategies.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2011Date of Patent: April 16, 2013Assignee: Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLCInventors: Ronald S.
