Abstract: A free wheel with rolling bodies provides an inner ring, an outer ring, a plurality of rolling bodies, positioned in an annular space arranged radially between the inner and outer rings, and a cage for keeping the rolling bodies in position. The cage defines individual receiving housings for the rolling bodies. The free wheel has elastic retaining members for keeping the rolling bodies in their housings, each member having least two tongues that come into contact with two rolling bodies positioned in two adjacent housings of the cage. The tongues positioned on either side of a housing delimit an opening there-between through which a rolling body rolls on a track of a first ring. The width of the opening, measured in an orthoradial direction with respect to a relative axis of rotation of the inner and outer rings, has a value smaller than the diameter of the rolling bodies.

Abstract: An application tool (and a method of use of the tool) is provided for assembling an outboard seal and roller assembly into a hub unit. The tool and method allow for the use of standard seals and standard cage/roller assemblies, thus avoiding the problem associated with the use of special cages or oversized large-diameter seals.

  • Patent number: 6554479
Abstract: A ball bearing comprising an inner ring having an outer peripheral surface formed with an inner ring raceway thereon, an outer ring having an inner peripheral surface formed with an outer ring raceway thereon, a cage made of synthetic resin and rotatably disposed relative to the inner ring and outer ring and having a plurality of pockets formed therein, and a plurality of balls held in the pockets, respectively, to be rotatably disposed between the inner ring raceway and outer ring raceway, wherein in the state before the cage is disposed between the inner ring and the outer ring, and where the balls held in the pockets are displaced toward the radially inside of the cage until the rolling contact surface of the balls comes in contact with the inner surface of the respective pockets to produce a circumscribed circle with a diameter with respect to the balls, the diameter of the circumscribed circle is smaller than the inner diameter of the outer ring raceway by an amount in the range 10 &mgr;m to 60 &mgr;m.

  • Patent number: 6397471
Abstract: The apparatus incorporates a base member 11 for supporting a cage 3 and a rolling-element distributing column 13 disposed concentrically to the cage 3 supported by the base member 11 and permitted to relatively rotate with respect to the base member 11. An opening 28 of a rolling-member supply passage 29 in which a plurality of the rolling elements 5 are loaded in a line is formed at an end of the rolling-element distributing column 13 opposite to the cage 3, and a pressing surfaces 27 or 31 is formed which forcibly introduces the rolling elements 5 supplied through the opening 28 into the pockets 7 by using relative rotation between the base member 11 and the rolling-element distributing column 13.
