  • Patent number: 6978900
Abstract: A braided strainer for a draw line, and method of forming same. The strainer comprises a frame in the form of a pair of spaced planar plates, one being a solid end plate and the other having a control aperture. A plurality of spaced, parallel rods of similar length are positioned near the peripheries of the plates and secured and extending between the plates. A plurality of cylindrical walls of braided strands of strainer medium, are provided, the braided cylindrical walls having similarly spaced rod-receiving holes extending longitudinally in spaced fashion through the strands of strainer medium. These walls are contiguously stacked on the plates to extend between them. The plate having the central aperture permits flow of fluid drawn through the cylindrical walls during operation of the strainer. That plate has associated with it a connector to releasably secure the strainer to a mating connector on a free end of the draw line.

  • Patent number: 5938925
Abstract: A progressive gap sand control screen comprising a plurality of parallel ribs spaced around an axis and a screen wire wrapped around the plurality of ribs having turns which extend along the length of the plurality of ribs such that adjacent turns have gaps therebetween, the gaps forming a gap profile in which the gaps near the upper end of the sand control screen are narrower than the gaps near the lower end of the sand control screen, the width of the gaps near the upper end of the sand control screen being less than the diameter of the particles which cause erosion, the gap profile includes a variable gap section near the upper end of the sand control screen and a constant gap section below the variable gap section, the variable gap section having a linear profile, a step type profile, or a nonlinear profile.

  • Patent number: 5533244
Abstract: A woven belt paper polisher imparts mechanical energy to paper by sliding a woven belt against a paper sheet while the sheet is supported against a shear inducing roll. The contact force, slide distance and the coefficient of friction of the polishing belt result in less polishing material wear, less chance for developing machine direction character on the paper surface, and less chance for machine component damage. The use of an extended belt run outside the polishing section, results in reduced wear, extended uptime, and better polishing surface reconditioning. The use of a commercially produced and modified woven paper machine fabric results in lower operating cost compared to the use of a specialty polishing material.

  • Patent number: 5522124
Abstract: A machine tool apparatus having a burnishing head assembly coupled directly to a hollow, tubular output shaft of the motor of the apparatus. The tubular output shaft is coupled to the armature of the motor and allows a cylindrical workpiece or part inserted into the burnishing head assembly to be received and fed coaxially through the motor. The burnishing head assembly is coupled to the motor such that rotation of the tubular output shaft of the motor causes a corresponding rotation of a plurality of rolls of the burnishing head assembly. When the rolls come into contact with a surface of the workpiece or part, they bear against the surface to effect a roller burnishing of the surface. In the preferred embodiment the rolls are set at a helix angle which causes the rolls to draw the workpiece or part through the tubular output shaft of the motor and burnishing head assembly once contact with the rolls is made, to thereby obviate the need for an individual to manually feed in the part.

  • Patent number: 5099558
Abstract: A burnishing tool holder and a method of burnishing wherein the burnishing tool has a resilient U-shaped thin strip interconnected to a bracket that supports a burnishing roller and a tool holder that is mounted on a slide that is moveable longitudinally and transversely of a hollow wheel rim. The U-shaped member is yieldable along a line normal to the axis of rotation of the burnishing roller to present a variable force on the workpiece to burnish a horizontally extending surface of different thicknesses.

  • Patent number: 4924568
Abstract: A roller burnishing device for sizing and/or finishing the external surface of a workpiece having a circular sectional contour by causing a relative rotation between the workpiece and a plurality of truncated conical rollers arranged within a head having a truncated conical inner surface. In this device, the head is made nonrotatable and instead a hollow cylindrical cage supporting the rollers within the head is driven in rotation to rotate the rollers at a high speed and the rollers are caused to orbit by driving the cage in low speed rotation thereby causing the rollers to make a planetary motion within the head.

  • Patent number: 4586223
Abstract: A machine for straightening and polishing a round bar comprises a bed, a plurality of straighteners, and a plurality of squeezing-and-rubbing machines. A pair of polishing discs face each other on rotating shafts extending from the squeezing-and-rubbing machines. Central longitudinal axes of the rotating shafts upon which the pair of facing polishing discs are mounted are offset from but parallel to each other and rotate in the same direction. Thus, the round bar is straightened while being passed through the straightening tubes and is polished while being rotated by the polishing discs.
