Patent number: 7543364Abstract: A process and apparatus for forming a mattress. A border material is fed through a sewing station to form a hem. The same material is fed through the sewing station again, at a different elevation to form a second hem and an attachment gusset. The hemmed gusset and border material then is preferably subjected to a ruffling process to form a series of pleats about the corners of the mattress border. The perimeter of the border is then closed, and the finished border is placed over a set of mattress springs and fixed in place.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2005Date of Patent: June 9, 2009Assignee: Atlanta Attachment CompanyInventors: Elvin C. Patent number: 7181794Abstract: A fire retardant pillow top mattress has a base which is covered by a fire barrier material. A ticking covers the fire barrier material. Sheets of these combined materials are formed into a top, a bottom and sidewalls for the mattress. In a pillow top mattress, the pillow top and the gusset between the mattress and the pillow top are formed in a like manner. The intersecting planar surfaces are mated between a flame-retardant treated edge binding tape. The mated surfaces are sewn with a flame retardant thread and the mattress, pillow top and gusset are encapsulated with fire retardant components. The edges of the sidewalls and the mattress cover are serge stitched with a flame retardant thread.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2005Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Inventor: Vincent Diaz

Patent number: 7134730Abstract: A method of manufacturing a seat that includes the steps of attaching adjacent upholstery panels with a locator strip and attachment strip sandwiched therebetween. The attachment strip includes an enlarged edge portion that engages clips in a molded foam seat backing. At least a portion of the locator strip is torn away along a line of perforations formed therein.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2005Date of Patent: November 14, 2006Assignee: Irvin Automotive Products, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Brian Flegal, Daniel Joseph Jarackas, Jr.

Patent number: 6944900Abstract: A mattress having an inverted top panel/border seam, with an optional appended decorative rope welting on the border is described. An inverted seam secures the top panel to the border portion of a mattress cover to eliminate bumps and creases found in conventional welted top seam. Manufacturing costs may be reduced by eliminating the need for an expensive table-mounted tape edge closure machine and/or skilled operators, since the inverted seam may be flay sewn with a conventional sewing machine or even hand-stitched. Alternatively, a conventional tape edge machine can be used with less-skilled labor and or reduced tape/welting material, as all of the stitches and welting are hidden inside the mattress by the inverted seam.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2004Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: Dreamwell Ltd.Inventor: Neal Charles Van Patten

Patent number: 6409245Abstract: A sun visor assembly having a rounded member partially defining the outer edge of the sun visor which forms a more user-friendly edge than existing sun visor designs. The sun visor is formed from a substantially flat foundation that is folded unto itself thereby forming two foundation halves. The halves have corresponding shapes that define the edge of the sun visor. An upholstery cover covers the foundation and forms an exterior surface of the sun visor. A bead member is attached to the foundation and includes a stem portion that attaches to the foundation. The bead member also includes the rounded member whose surface forms a substantially semicircular cross section which faces away from the sun visor. In one embodiment, the rounded member is integrally formed with the foundation, itself, and this embodiment therefore does not include an additional bead member.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2001Date of Patent: June 25, 2002Inventors: Willard E. Crotty, III, Mark A. Tom
