Welding With Other Step Patents (Class 29/DIG48)
  • Patent number: 4509238
Abstract: Blades in the steam path of a steam turbine diaphragm are assembled into slots in full circular bands and are structurally bonded thereto by welding. After stress relief, the bands are each separated into two 180 degree pieces by line cuts which pass between adjacent blades. The bands are then welded to semicircular rings having planar mating surfaces. The welding of the rings to the bands is performed with minimum welding without concern for whether the welds enter the interface sufficiently far to contact the blades themselves.

  • Patent number: 4483054
Abstract: A one-piece cylindrical drum of a drum rotor has a plurality of enlarged, axially spaced-apart, annular rim portions through which axial blade root slots are machined. The slots are curved along their length about an axis located radially outwardly of the rim. The rotor is preferably made from a plurality of bonded together cylinder-like sections. After bonding the sections together the curved blade root slots are machined using a circular broach.

  • Patent number: 4392314
Abstract: A boom and dipper stick construction for mobile excavators and an improved method of manufacturing the same. The boom and dipper stick are fabricated from side plates that are butt welded together with respect to various hinge point locations to eliminate the necessity of doubler plates on the sides of the structures. The butt welds are located at non-critical areas to provide for even stress flow and ease of manufacture.A method of welding together the side plates of the boom and dipper stick construction in an end to end abutting relationship in a manner which attains a complete weld penetration over the entire length of the joint.

  • Patent number: 4277871
Abstract: Method and apparatus for manufacturing a heat exchanger element which comprises a metal tube secured to a metal sheet by metal which has been heated and cooled. Wrinkles in the sheet after the tube has been joined thereto are removed by stretching at least the tube by an amount sufficient to cause the length of the tube to be substantially equal to the length of the outboard edges of the tube. The sheet may also be stretched beyond its elastic limit at the time that the tube is stretched but should not be stretched more than 2.5%.

  • Patent number: 4202086
Abstract: A method of assembling the parts of a heat exchanger, in which a pipe bundle is lowered into an open-topped vessel, and a wall of the bundle is secured to the wall of the vessel by welding. Prior to placing the bundle in position, a sealing ring is provided around the bundle between the outer periphery of a circumferential wall thereof and the inner periphery of the wall of the vessel, which ring hermetically seals the annular opening between the pipe bundle and the wall of the vessel after the bundle has been placed in position. The sealing ring is desirably made of a deformable material having suitable dimensions to be compressed axially between an outwardly extending wall portion of the pipe bundle and an inwardly extending wall portion of the vessel when the pipe bundle is fully lowered into the vessel. The seal ring may be made of material which melts at the operating temperature of the heat exchanger and can be thereby eliminated after welded joint has been tested satisfactorily.

  • Patent number: 4110921
Abstract: An improved cutting edge for use with a bucket having a front edge. The cutting edge is welded to the bucket and includes a rear portion having a hardness less than the front cutting edge portion to permit the assembly of the front and rear portions to be welded to the bucket front edge without preheating the cutting edge assembly and effecting the weldment thereto. In one form, the front portion of the cutting edge assembly is defined by a one-piece element, and in another form, the front portion includes a plurality of hardened blade elements welded to the rear portion.

  • Patent number: 3980248
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing component thermoplastic sections and for joining them into bobbins for spinning and twisting machines. A frictional surface is formed by injection molding at the outer end surface of a male section and the inner end surface of a female section of a bobbin. By joining the sections and subjecting them to a high-speed rotation relative to each other the frictional surfaces melt and the sections are fused into an integral break resistant bobbin. The specific shapes of the male and female contacting surfaces and the manner of fusing them together are described as being critical.
