  • Patent number: 4738111
Abstract: A modular, frame-mounted power unit for converting heat from a low-grade energy source to electric power. Heat from a source is supplied to the power unit in the form of hot fluid circulated through a heat exchanger associated with a boiler. Liquid refrigerant in the boiler is vaporized and passes through the stages of an organic Rankine cycle, the expansion stage being carried out in a rotary, positive displacement expander. The condensing stage is carried out in a condenser associated with a cold heat exchanger which is connected to a supply of cooling fluid through cooling lines. The output shaft of the expander is connected to drive an electric power generator and individual fluid feed pumps for returning liquid refrigerant from the condenser to the boiler and for circulating hot and cold fluids through the hot and cold heat exchangers, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4694190
Abstract: A turbine generator includes a plurality of spaced and parallel, transverse webs interconnected by plates to define an integral generator housing-base. Each transverse web in the generator section thereof includes a central, circular opening through which the generator rotor extends, and a plurality of apertures extending about the opening. Each transverse web further includes a walkway flange which, in association with the plates, forms a walkway, and also includes a superstructure lattice at the top thereof for supporting air cooling structure. A turbine is bolted to the integral generator housing-base, and is coupled to the generator rotor. Due to the integral generator housing-base, resonant vibrations of the base portion thereof at the generator operating frequency and at twice the generator operating frequency are eliminated, the weight and size of the turbine generator are reduced, and the turbine generator has greater structural integrity and rigidity.

  • Patent number: 4311917
Abstract: A non-pollution motor powered from a source of a low pressure liquified cryogenic is disclosed. A means for converting, upon demand, a quantity of the cryogenic into a high pressure gas is connected between a gas expander and a storage volume tank. The high pressure gas stored in the volume tank is used to power a gas turbine motor. The gas turbine in turn drives a DC-generator to produce a voltage that both charges a battery pack and drives an output DC-drive motor. When the battery pack is fully charged, the gas turbine is turned off, and the DC-drive motor is powered solely from the battery pack. When the batteries have discharged, the turbine is turned on to drive the DC-generator once again. Both the DC-generator and the DC-drive motor are contained in the cryogenic in heat exchange relationship to cool the units to essentially the temperature of the cryogenic.
