Abstract: A drive-in housing for mounting a latch assembly in a bore formed in a door comprises two identical housing parts each having a slot therein. When the housing parts are brought together they form an opening for receiving a bolt casing of the latch assembly. Tabs on the casing are captured in the slots as the housing parts are moved normal to the axis of the casing. Movement of the casing relative to the housing parts is then limited by direct engagement of the housing parts with the tabs. The housing parts each have two abutment surfaces facing in a circumferential direction, the abutment surfaces of one housing part having a projection and a recess, respectively, for mating with a corresponding recess and projection on the abutment surfaces of the other housing part. The housing parts, when brought together, form a faceplate having an opening therein for accommodating a bolt.

  • Patent number: 5620211
Abstract: The adjustable latch bolt of this invention features a novel cam actuating assembly which permits election of one of two door knob spindle backsets which are in standard usage. The cam assembly is comprised of two half hubs, each having one arm so that one half hub operates the drawbar in one direction of rotation and the other in the opposite direction of rotation. The half hubs are formed so that a portion of one half hub nests in a depression in the other in such a way that the two half hubs can rotate relative to each other. When the hubs are set to one of two backsets and are in a position to actuate the drawbar, non-circular openings passing through the axis of rotation of the two hubs are aligned so that a complementary shaped spindle can pass through both hubs and engage them for rotation. With the spindle in place the two half hubs are prevented from rotation relative to each other.

The latch includes a latch housing having a pair of aligned openings comprising two longitudinally spaced apart openings in communication with each other via a relatively narrow passageway. A cam is movable between the two openings through the passageway to adjust the backset. The cam cooperates with a retract slide which is engaged at its front end with the latch bolt to retract the latch bolt. The retract slide contains two sets of teeth at its back end, one set of teeth being engaged by the cam when it is in a first backset position and the second set of teeth being engaged by the cam when it is in a second backset position.

  • Patent number: 5152558
Abstract: A lockset is adaptable for installation at more than one backset distance including a bolt assembly which has a latch member and a separable drawbar located within a housing assembly, a portion of which is also made up of two relatively movable portions. Operation of the lock is standard in so far as extending and retracting the bolt is concerned, while adjustment of the backset distance is accomplished by simultaneously adjusting the lengths of the bolt assembly and the housing assembly. Visual indication of backset distance is provided as is adaptability without the use of tools. Bolt throw disablement is provided when the lockset is in the transfer position for changing backset.

  • Patent number: 5149151
Abstract: An adjustable latch assembly used in a lever lock comprises a shell, a shelf, a rotator, an actuating arm, a positioning and pulling assembly, and a bolt. The shell is attachable to a door. The shelf has a first position and a second position within the shell. The rotator is mountable on the shelf. The actuating arm co-operates with the rotator, so as to be actuated by the rotator when the rotator rotates. The positioning and pulling assembly positions the shelf in the first position or the second position and pulls the bolt inward. The adjustable latch assembly has a first backset when the shelf is at the first position and a second backset when shelf is at a second position.

  • Patent number: RE34240
Abstract: A tubular door lock making use of two pairs of motive teeth in a pulling plate for a two-tooth gear to selectively mesh with for an motive action. The gear is confined within a hole cut in a moving shell, which can move outside along the assembling plates and be fixed to keep a hole in it to exactly face against a hole in the assembling plates so as to enable the foot post of the door lock to penetrate through the both holes, whether this lock is adjusted in the short or in the long size.
