  • Patent number: 10267059
Abstract: A sliding latch replaces a prior art door strike plate. The sliding latch has two components, a strike plate and a sliding latch cover reciprocal within the strike plate. A handle protrudes from the sliding latch cover sufficiently to extend beyond a closed door and door frame, to permit the handle to be manually grasped and lifted in a crisis. When the sliding latch cover is thus elevated, it no longer blocks the door bolt, allowing the bolt to extend farther and engage with the strike plate and extend into the door jamb, locking the door. One of the strike plate mounting screw holes is preferably drawn slightly out of the primary plane of the strike plate toward the jamb, and a pair of elevated distally located edges run longitudinally along the strike plate. The drawn screw hole and raised edges guide and limit motion of the sliding latch cover.

Abstract: A mechanism for selectively coupling a first moving part with a second moving part. The mechanism includes and engaging member that is movable between a detent position, a uncoupled position, and a coupled position in which the load transferring surface is within the aperture. A biasing member biases the engaging member into the detent position or coupled position. The engaging member overrides the biasing force and moves out of the detent position into the uncoupled position when first and second moving parts move relative to each other. When the engaging member is in the coupled position, the first and second moving parts are coupled for movement together. One embodiment of the invention is a child safety door handle rotating on a spindle. Other embodiments include water faucets, stove or burner controls, or any other rotatable or movable parts.

Abstract: A cane bolt is spring biased up to allow a movable barrier with which the cane bolt is engaged to move. The cane bolt can be pushed down into a strike hole to prevent movement of the barrier. To hold the cane bolt down, a pin on the cane bolt abuts a slotted stop on the barrier. To raise the cane bolt, the cane bolt is simply rotated so that the pin aligns with and thus passes through the slot, allowing the spring to urge the cane bolt up.

  • Patent number: 7967348
Abstract: A key alignment system for safety interlock switches uses alignment holes, and alignment pins to compensate for misalignment between a body assembly and a key assembly. The misalignment is often due to normal wear and tear or outright abuse of a gate or other movable member that should be safely interlocked. The key is fixed to a floating plate connected to a mounting plate by a suspension. The alignment pins and holes on or in a fixed alignment assembly and the floating plate can move the floating plate into a position such that the key enters the key hole. Some embodiments incorporate the fixed alignment assembly into the body assembly. The normal function of a keyed safety interlock wherein the key can be caught and held or released is preserved and enhanced by compensating for misalignment.
