Patent number: 4648639Abstract: A security lock comprising a latch positioned at the edge of a door which is actuated to selectively lock or unlock the door. The security lock includes an optional key-actuated dead bolt which can provide additional security when needed. A mechanism for locking or unlocking the latch comprises a hand-actuated knob positioned on the inside of the door so that when the dead bolt is not in use, the latch mechanism may still be locked or unlocked simply by rotating the knob between two positions. The mechanism for locking the latch is disengaged when the latch is in the locked position. If the latch is in the locked position when the door is opened, when the door is closed the latch is automatically unlocked to prevent a person from accidentally being locked out.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignee: Interwest Import & Export CompanyInventors: Eugene W. Patent number: 4422677Abstract: A rotatable crank hub has a crank arm slot pivotally connected to the rearward ends of a pair of driving levers, the forward ends of the driving levers being pivotally connected to a longitudinally slideable bolt. Rotation of the crank hub in opposite directions moves the bolt through the crank arm and driving levers forwardly to bolt extended position and rearwardly to bolt retracted position during which a transverse driving pin between the crank arm and driving lever rearward ends moves into forward vertical slots of the latch frame in the bolt extended position and into rearward vertical slots of the latch frame in bolt retracted position. A cam projection on the crank hub is slideably resiliently engaged at one side approaching and in bolt extended position and the other side approaching and in bolt retracted position by a forward leg of a U-shaped spring, a spring rearward leg being engaged with the latch frame.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1981Date of Patent: December 27, 1983Assignee: Emhart Industries, Inc.Inventor: Arnold C. Patent number: 4312204Abstract: A door lock has a flush-mountable body. A forwardly facing recess is defined by the body. A paddle-type handle is pivotally carried by the body and is movable between a nested position within the body recess and an operating position. A spring-projected slide bolt is carried on the back of the body and is movable between projected and retracted positions. A key-controlled disconnect linkage is provided for selectively connecting and disconnecting the handle and the bolt. The disconnect linkage includes a disconnect member which is mounted for translatory movement along one side of the bolt to bring other disconnect components selectively into and out of driving engagement. A key-operated locking member moves the disconnect member between connecting and disconnecting positions. When the disconnect linkage drivingly connects the handle and the bolt, movement of the handle from its nested position to an operating position will cause corresponding retracting movement of the bolt.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1979Date of Patent: January 26, 1982Assignee: The Eastern CompanyInventor: Edwin W. Patent number: 4268075Abstract: A door lock of the dead bolt type in which an eccentric cam on the inner end of a lock cylinder can be rotated to engage a deformation in a ring, causing the ring to rotate. A linkage connects the ring to a bolt so that rotation of the ring causes reciprocation of the bolt, the ring being concentric with and supported by the cylinder. An engagement portion of the ring that extends beyond the cylinder forms the deformation, preferably a recess, permitting the cam to engage and disengage the recess as it makes a complete revolution. The cam engages opposite ends of the recess to move the bolt in opposite directions. A spring, that can be disposed within the bolt, is used to bias the ring toward positions corresponding to extended and retracted positions of the bolt.A catch mechanism can be provided to engage a housing and resist movement of the bolt if the bolt is forced toward its retracted position.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1979Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Inventor: Howard M. Allenbaugh

Patent number: 4263795Abstract: A lock mechanism is disclosed for use with sliding, swinging or overhead doors. A receiver is affixed to the door frame and a bolt, linkage and handle are affixed to the door. The linkage allows the bolt to engage the receiver by sliding along the receiver until it becomes latched so that the door may be closed though the handle is locked. Pulling upon the unlocked handle retracts the bolt from the receiver and also causes the door to start opening.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Brammall, Inc.Inventor: James Van Gompel

Patent number: 4248452Abstract: A door lock including a bolt connected by a link to an actuator mechanism by which it is movable within a housing between a retracted position and an extended position. A pin and slot connection between the bolt and link form a coaction mechanism that causes a prong on the link to engage an abutment on the housing when a force is applied to the extended bolt in the direction of its retracted position. As the link pivots, a second abutment on the housing is engaged to further resist bolt movement. The force is then absorbed by the housing rather than the more fragile actuator mechanism. If the bolt is subjected to a force that would tend to pull it from the lock, the link engages another abutment on the housing to retain the bolt. The bolt is movable a short distance from its normal extended position by compressing a spring without transmitting to the link the force applied to the bolt. A hardened security pin within the bolt normally transmits the spring force to the link to avoid looseness.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1978Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: M.A.G. Patent number: 4123097Abstract: For translating the linear motion of a pivotally mounted thumb piece for a front door latch into the rotary motion needed to withdraw a latch bolt, two rotary members are employed. One is a bell crank having a pivotal mounting on the mounting plate at one side of and at right angles to the pivotal mounting of the thumb plate and rotationally responsive to linear motion of the thumb piece. The other is a drum having a rotatable mounting on the mounting plate parallel to and spaced from the bell crank pivotal mounting, and at a location adjacent a roll back of a latch bolt. A resilient connector strip from the bell crank to the drum causes the drum to be rotated in response to rotation of the bell crank. A torsion return spring attached to the drum acts to return the drum and the bell crank to their original positions.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1977Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Assignee: Norris Industries, Inc.Inventor: James G.
