  • Patent number: 10876328
Abstract: A door handle assembly for a motor vehicle includes a handle carrier mounted on the vehicle and a grip part rotatably mounted on the handle carrier. The grip part opens a door or flap of the motor vehicle. A coupling device is rotatably mounted on the handle carrier for transmitting an actuation of the grip part to a locking arrangement on the vehicle. A joint element pivotably interconnects the coupling device and the grip part. The joint element movably supports an actuating member which is moved by rotation translationally between mounting and operating positions. In the operating position, the actuating member is pivotably mounted on the coupling device and is in engagement with the grip part. In the mounting position, the actuating member bears against a blocking surface of the coupling device that blocks rotation of the actuating member and is out of engagement with the grip part.

Abstract: A vehicle door assembly includes an outer door panel and a door latch assembly operable to latch and unlatch the vehicle door assembly. The door latch assembly includes a door handle assembly, a bell crank operatively coupled to the door handle assembly, wherein rotation of the bell crank causes the door latch assembly to unlatch the vehicle door assembly, and a bell crank blocking structure. The bell crank blocking structure includes a first leg coupled to a support structure within the vehicle door assembly and an overhang portion connected to the first leg. The overhang portion extends outwardly from the first leg and is spaced from a plane of rotation of the bell crank during normal vehicle operating conditions. The overhang portion is configured to deform toward the plane of rotation of the bell crank during a side impact condition to block rotation of the bell crank.

  • Patent number: 9322198
Abstract: A latch assembly includes a door latch member and a release member. The door latch member pivots between a latched position and an unlatched position. The release member is movably coupled to the door latch member to move the door latch member from the latched position to the unlatched position. An inertia activated lock-out mechanism includes a locking member and a counterweight. The locking member moves between a locking position that prevents movement of the door latch member from the latched position to the unlatched position, and a non-interfering position in which the door latch member operates between the latched position and the unlatched position. The counterweight moves the locking member to the locking position in response to an inertial force exceeding a threshold level being applied to the vehicle door latch mechanism.

  • Patent number: 8672368
Abstract: The present invention is directed to improvements in latch design. The illustrated embodiment of the present invention is a rotary pawl latch with the capability to provide a compressive force between the first member and the second member. The illustrated embodiment of the present invention is of an electromechanical type. The control circuit of the latch detects when a striker attached to one member, for example a door, has moved the pawl to a first latched position. A motor is then activated that drives the pawl to a second latched position to provide compression between the first member and a second member, for example a door frame.

  • Patent number: 4763936
Abstract: An automobile door latch has a fork-type latch bolt, a detent lever which automatically retains the bolt in a closed-latched position in a manual-closed operating mode of the latch when the door is manually swung to the closed position, a manually actuated release lever which moves the detent lever to a releasing position releasing the bolt in a manual-open operating mode of the latch, and a power operating means which power rotates the bolt from an ajar-latched position to the closed-latched position in a power-closed operating mode of the latch and which moves the detent lever to the releasing position in a power-open operating mode of the latch. The door latch further includes an electrical control which automatically actuates the latch in the power-closed operating mode when the latch bolt achieves the ajar-latched position and which permits random sequencing of the manual and the power operating modes of the latch.

  • Patent number: 4364590
Abstract: Automobile door locking apparatus with cancellation mechanisms, the mechanisms consisting of an open lever, a locking lever, a lever connecting the above two levers, and a cancellation lever which are all operatively fitted to a back surface of base body of the door locking apparatus. Said back surface has a projection for a door striker. The above levers are located aside said projection and substantially within the level of said projection so as to provide a window glass channel with a wider front width.

  • Patent number: 4125008
Abstract: A unitary self-contained electrically operated lock is provided which includes a latch wheel manually releasably rotatable from a first side of the lock housing by pulling on a handle from a first side and releasably rotatable from a second side of the housing only in response to insertion of a data combination card carrying an appropriate code. The latch wheel is mounted outside the housing on a rotatable shaft extending into the housing. A ratchet wheel mounted inside the lock housing on the rotatable shaft rotates with the latch wheel. A pawl normally engaged with the ratchet wheel allows the latch wheel to rotate into locking engagement with a keeper mounted in a door jamb while preventing the latch wheel from rotating out of engagement with the keeper until the pawl is retracted. A trip plate secured to the handle disengages the pawl from the ratchet wheel whenever the handle is manually retracted.

  • Patent number: 3999791
Abstract: A door latch device includes a cancel lever pivoted to an intermediate lever in its initial position to be engaged with a pawl lever upon engagement of a pawl and latch mechanism so as to move the intermediate lever from the locked position to the unlocked position, a stopper element to rotate the cancel lever by engagement therewith upon sliding movement of the intermediate lever relative to the locking lever caused by operating the release lever when the door is open and the locking lever is in its locked position so as to disable engagement of the cancel lever with the pawl lever, and a snap action spring interconnected between the cancel lever and the intermediate lever for holding the cancel lever in either the initial position upon engagement of the pawl and latch mechanism or the rotated position thereof after engagement of the cancel lever with the stopper.

  • Patent number: 3985381
Abstract: A locking apparatus provided with an idle mechanism for preventing an erroneous unlocking operation inside the vehicle or a possible car theft. The apparatus is comprising a pivotally mounted latch member engageable with a striker, a locking plate pivotally mounted on a common pivot to receive the latch member, and a releasing lever which is also pivotally mounted on the common pivot and may be shifted from an unlatching position to a free position, whenever necessary, so as to cause the releasing lever not to work upon the locking plate any longer and to retain the completely latched-condition.
