Patent number: 4390867Abstract: A burglar alarm system mounted in a reinforced doorway and comprising a control circuit having a normally open switch point consisting of a flange projecting from the backer plate towards the striker plate of the door lock, the flange being out of contact with, but close to, a long latch bolt projecting into the latch bolt hole for locking the door, and a contact having an electrical polarity opposite to that of the backer plate. The contact extends towards, but is normally slightly spaced from, the flange whereby the switch point is open and the control circuit is not energized. Displacement of the latch bolt towards the flange by a burglar tool and resultant displacement of the flange towards the contact causes the flange to touch the contact and energizes the control circuit to set off the alarm.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1981Date of Patent: June 28, 1983Inventor: James Queren

Patent number: 4194776Abstract: Disclosed is a security astragal for double door assemblies which includes a gear-toothed rod rotatably mounted in the meeting edge of one of the doors, and a rod-engaging blade mounted on the meeting edge of the other door. Both the rod and the blade preferably extend for the full height of the door. When the doors are swung relative to each other, the blade engages the teeth on the rod and rotates the rod sufficiently to enable the blade to move partly or fully past the rod. When the doors are in closed position, the blade and rod are in gear-like interengagement, making it impossible to insert a coat hanger or other jimmying tool between the two doors for manipulating the latch mechanism on the inside of the doors.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1977Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Assignee: Howmet CorporationInventor: Lawrence F. Patent number: 4174862Abstract: The protector includes a generally U-shaped main body portion engageable with the major circumference of one or more door frame support members. A perpendicular flange portion projects from one terminal portion of the main body portion for engagement with a portion of the door frame which will be subjected to splitting forces during an attempt at forcible entry. A coplanar extension of the other terminal portion of the main body portion forms an anchor. The protector thus can serve as a combination anchor-door frame protector, or as a door frame protector alone. In the latter instance, the extension and adjacent segment of the main body portion may be eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1977Date of Patent: November 20, 1979Inventor: Charles F. Shane

Patent number: 4056277Abstract: An electric strike type door lock in which the strike tongue is releasably held in its latch bolt securing position by a ball seated in a bore in a wall of the housing in which the strike tongue is mounted. Toggle linkage holds the ball in an operative position projecting from the mouth of the bore and into a pocket in the adjacent surface of the strike tongue, when the toggle linkage is in an extended condition with its knee joint slightly across dead center. A low powered solenoid operatively connected with the knee joint of the toggle, initiates collapse of the toggle and thereby enables the ball to be expelled from the pocket in the strike tongue by door opening force transmitted through the latch bolt onto the strike tongue.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1976Date of Patent: November 1, 1977Assignee: Unican Security Systems, Ltd.Inventors: Abraham Gamus, Zoran Knecevic
