  • Patent number: 6626473
Abstract: The invention relates to an outer door handle. According to the invention, the press element (15) integrated in the bow-type handle is configured as a multiple-component insert (20) with two components, namely a hard component (21) and a soft component (22). The multiple-component insert is shaped like a cap. The center portion (23) of the cap bottom consists of a plate-shaped hard component (21) on the exterior. The remaining area of the cap, namely especially the contour part (35) towards the plate and the cap coat exclusively consist of the soft component (22). The cap coat is inserted in a force fit in a recess (13) of the bow-type handle by way of contacting surfaces and shoulders (41) and is secured therein by snap-in elements (43).

  • Patent number: 6594861
Abstract: In some preferred embodiments of the present invention, a fastener on a door handle assembly having a door handle is moved by actuation of the door handle into a position in which the fastener connects the door handle assembly to the door. The door handle is preferably capable of transmitting door handle actuation force to the fastener to move the fastener. In one preferred embodiment, this force is transmitted by camming action against a sliding member to which the fastener is connected. In another embodiment, this force is transmitted by pulling a sliding member with links connected to the handle. The movable fastener can connect with a second fastener connected to the door handle assembly or to the door. Therefore, when the movable fastener is moved by actuation of the handle, the movable fastener can connect with the second fastener to secure the door handle assembly to the door.

  • Patent number: 6209933
Abstract: An release handle mechanism for a motor vehicle trunk lid is provided. The release handle mechanism includes a handle, that when activated can release the latch that couples the trunk lid to the vehicle body. The mechanism includes a housing having a plurality of sides. One side includes an inclined surface onto which the handle is pivotally connected such that the pivoting of the handle causes the handle to move outward and downward. The mechanism also includes a light source disposed within one side of the housing. The light source is disposed less than 4 inches away from the handle and is capable of directing light towards said handle as well as the trunk. The handle itself is comprised of a generally cylindrical horizontal portion and a pivot portion that is connected to the inclined surface. In the first embodiment the handle is comprised of a thermoplastic polymer resin, containing a phosphorescent, while in the second embodiment, the housing is made of material with the phosphorescent additive.

  • Patent number: 6152502
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for closing a compartment door of a vehicle that enables individuals of small stature to close the door without difficulty. More specifically, the apparatus includes an extension handle that extends below a lip of the fully opened compartment door, thereby enabling an individual of small stature to reach and pull down on the extension handle to close the compartment door. In a preferred embodiment, the extension handle includes a pivot mounting and an extension arm coupled to the pivot mounting. A latching mechanism latches the extension handle in a stowed position in which the extension handle is preferably flush with an inner surface of the compartment door. The extension handle can also be made to deploy from a lip of the compartment door. Alternatively, the extension handle includes a retractable lanyard coupled to a grip.

Abstract: An unlock mechanism for a foldable rear seat back which prevents damage to an unlocked state indicator and a front seat. A warning bezel (24) is slidingly fit in a fixed bezel (22) which is fixed to an upper surface (10A) of a rear seat back (10). A first link (32) engages with the warning bezel (24). The first link (32) is connected to a bell crank (38). The bell crank (38) is urged upward by a spring (46). A pin (54), which is provided upright at a latch (16), is movably inserted into a slot (52) which is formed in an open link (50) which is engaged with the bell crank (38). Accordingly, in an unlocked state, when the warning bezel (24) is pressed into the fixed bezel (22), the first link (32) moves downward against urging force of a spring (46), and the warning bezel (24) is accommodated in the fixed bezel (22).

  • Patent number: 6099052
Abstract: A door handle assembly for a motor vehicle which acts to preclude inadvertent unlatching of the door in response to a side impact. The door handle assembly includes a bezel housing and a handle member including a handle portion positioned in a bowl portion of the bezel housing and a crank arm portion extending outwardly and upwardly through a slot in the bowl portion for connection to a pivot shaft. A sliding, spring biased weight is mounted on the bowl portion of the bezel proximate the location where the crank arm of the handle passes through the slot in the bowl portion. The weight moves slideably into coaction with a detent structure on the crank arm of the handle member in response to a side impact to preclude pivotal movement of the handle member in an unlatching direction.

Abstract: A safety release assembly for a trunk or compartment of a vehicle is provided which is positionable within the trunk or compartment space of the vehicle so as to allow for opening of the trunk or compartment lid from within the trunk or compartment. The safety assembly comprises a handle for activating a release mechanism of the lid in order to open the compartment, at least one illumination source, which is at least occasionally activated to provide illumination of the handle, and a control circuit for activating the illumination source in response to an occurrence of at least one activating event such as when the deck lid is closed, motion is sensed by a sensor within the trunk/compartment, an object having a predetermined temperature is detected within the trunk/compartment, or the like. The handle is interconnected with the release mechanism of the compartment, such that movement of the handle results in activation of the release mechanism and thus opening of the lid.

  • Patent number: 6056335
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lock button assembly for installation on a threaded actuating member operatively connected to a vehicle door locking mechanism. The assembly has a manually engageable lock button having a longitudinally extending bore. The bore is configured to receive a threaded end portion of the actuating member. The lock button has an opening on one side thereof providing access to the bore. A clip member is mounted exteriorly to the lock button. The clip member has a resilient projection extending inwardly through the opening and into the bore for frictional engagement with the threaded portion. The projection is biased to permit ingress of the actuating member into the bore and to prevent egress of the actuating member from the bore. The present invention also relates to a method for installing a lock button assembly on a threaded actuating member operatively connected to a vehicle door locking mechanism.

Abstract: A door for a microwave oven has a rectangular door frame, and a transparent door screen installed on a central area of the door frame. A strip-shaped knob part is formed together with the door frame on the side opposite to a hinge part of the door frame. The door frame forms a grasping hole so as to be capable of being grasped along a plane of the door frame from both sides thereof. Since a user can grasp the knob part from both sides thereof, the door can be opened/closed conveniently without slipping in grasping the knob part. In particular, if an auxiliary pad is attached to the knob part, the knob part can be grasped with a favorable feeling and the slipping is prevented more effectively.
