  • Patent number: 6220637
Abstract: Two parts (120, 160) can be mated and secured from relative movement in three different orthogonal directions or planes by the use of a novel, two piece, plastic fastener structure. The snap fastener has an integral interlocking tab (170) that serves to constrain the movement in a third direction or plane. The snap fastener additionally consists of an operative component (110) and a securing component (150). The operative component has a resilient member (112) that deforms to receive a catch member (152) on the securing component when the operative component and the securing component are snapped or mated together. One of the two components contains an opening (180), while the other contains a body portion shaped more or less like a tab or tongue which is capable of being inserted within the opening when the two components are mated. When so inserted, the relative movement of the two components is restricted in three directions, without the use of a remotely located securing means.

Engaging the container with the lid closes the opening except for an aperture through which sharps can be inserted into the container but which impedes insertion of human hands. Engaging the container with the lid also impedes removal of the container from the frame. The system employs a means for selectively locking the lid into engagement with the container. The system further provides a cover for selectively sealing said opening.

Abstract: A chair is provided which comprises a mounting and latch member which is attached to the the chair arm to form a male assembly section and a female member which is attached to bottom of the seat support structure to provide a female section thereon. The female member has a slot for receiving and holding the mounting member and an attached arm so that the chair arm and the seat support structure are firmly and positively affixed to each other in a manner which also readily permits intentional removal. A resilient latch is resiliently and flexibly joined to the member for engaging the female member in order to prevent the male section from being withdrawn from the slot of the female member until the latch is disengaged.

Abstract: A hidden, releasable latch for a molded plastic enclosure having a first panel abutting a second panel along a seam. The first panel has a pressure bump on its inside surface a first distance from the seam, and a projecting tang on its inside surface at a further distance from the seam. The second panel has a tab from its inside surface projecting inside, parallel and spaced from the inside surface of the first panel, the tab contacting the pressure bump, and capturing the projecting tang in a hole within the tab. The tab is flexible enough for slight deflection during the capturing of the tang by the hole during an assembly process, and the releasing of the tang by movement of the tab from pressure from the pressure bump during a disassembly process.

  • Patent number: 5040833
Abstract: A closing device for a drawer includes a holding part in the form of a hook, a latch part and a spring tensioning such two parts to an engaged position. The holding part is, for example, fastened to a furniture body and the latch part to the drawer. The latch part has at least two different guide tracks for guiding the holding part, the holding part being guided along different guide tracks during opening and closing of the drawer. The holding part is bendable laterally as well as in the plane of the hook. When a tensioning force acts on a closed drawer, the holding part evades the latch part by bending in the plane of the hook.
