Patent number: 4895400Abstract: A slide latch for latching the leading edge of a door, formed of a plastic panel, to an adjacent jamb-like member, is formed of a narrow, thin, horizontally elongated, flat plate positioned upon the door surface for sliding movement towards and away from the jamb-like member. Integral, narrow, rigid flanges, forming sled-like runners, are formed along the horizontally elongated side edges of the slider for slidable engagement with the panel surface. The slider is held within an open-ended, horizontally elongated, flattened loop that is struck-out of the panel. Stops are formed near the opposite ends of the slider for engaging the ends of the loops and thereby limiting the sliding movement of the slider. One of the stops may be enlarged to form a manual grip for moving the slider.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1988Date of Patent: January 23, 1990Assignee: Poly-John Enterprises Corp.Inventors: George W. Patent number: 4818000Abstract: A decorative surface-mounted latch bolt assembly includes a decorative housing, a chassis providing an elongated passage therewithin, and a guide member disposed within the passage of the chassis and providing an elongated channel in which is seated the latch bolt. The guide member is fabricated of synthetic resin and its passage is configured and dimensioned to snugly receive the latch bolt so as to preclude its rattling or inadvertent movement therewithin. An actuator is supported above the top surface of the housing, and a connecting element extends between the actuator and the latch bolt through registering openings in the top wall of the housing, the chassis and the guide member, and these apertures are elongated so as to permit the desired longitudinal movement of the latch bolt.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1987Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventor: Louis G. Patent number: 4756178Abstract: A lever type lockset with a rolling housing within a main housing. The roller housing normally only touches the main housing at the rollers and also connects to the latch portion of a lockset. The side plates of the roller are constructed separately from the roller housing so that they can be made thicker and more durable. The inner and outer spindle each have a curved elbow on it which is shaped somewhat like two boomerangs joined together on adjacent distal ends for minimizing local stress concentrations. The side plate also has a curved surface which is designed to offer minimal resistance to the elbows so that the handle can be turned with very little resistance.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1987Date of Patent: July 12, 1988Inventor: Richard Shen

Patent number: 4641865Abstract: A multi-point closure control mechanism or lock especially designed for use with rear and/or side doors of a closed body highway truck, particularly a so-called panel truck, and for use with doors of military vehicles. The closure control mechanism comprises two dead bolts, slidably supported in suitable brackets adjacent to the upper and lower edges of a door near its free vertical edge, that engage keepers or catches in the form of plates on the vehicle body. Each bolt has a free running roller therein to facilitate entrance and retraction of the bolt into and out of engagement with its respective keeper or catch. The dead bolts are connected by rod members to pivots eccentrically located on a lock operating member rotatable in a frame member fixed to the door intermediate the bolts. The operating member also includes a cylindrical rod-like projection extending normal to the free edge of the door when the bolts are engaged with their keepers or catches at the top and bottom of the door.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1985Date of Patent: February 10, 1987Assignee: The Eastern CompanyInventor: John V. Patent number: 4576405Abstract: There is disclosed a door latch mechanism having a sliding latch mounted to slide from a retracted position to an extended position in which it is adapted to engage in a keeper slot to hold the door closed. A pivoted actuator for the latch is adapted to engage a striker during closing of the door to retract the actuator. When the actuator is retracted it retracts the latch. A manual operator for retracting the actuator is operable from the inside or outside of the door. A locking member prevents retraction of the sliding latch to lock the door.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1985Date of Patent: March 18, 1986Assignee: Wartian Lock Co.Inventor: George Wartian

Patent number: 4493499Abstract: Apparatus for securing a swinging end of a hinged door in a closed position is disclosed. A slidable latch assembly including spaced rollers for engaging angled contact surfaces extending from a door are all arranged with appropriate spacing to secure the door in position upon slidable displacement of the latch assembly. A complex pivoted latch handle is utilized to appropriately displace the latch assembly for either securing or opening the door.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1982Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventor: Paul R. Patent number: 4418949Abstract: The present invention provides a combination door and panic handle for use on the interior side of entrance doors. In one mode of operation the panic handle may be moved inwards toward the door face to unlatch the door. In this mode of operation the door may be opened on the exterior side by use of a key. In an alternative mode of operation, the panic handle is "locked-out" and prevented from moving. In this mode of operation the door is unlatched and the panic handle may be used as a fixed door handle. In the movable mode of operation, pressure may be applied along any portion of the panic handle to facilitate unlatching the door. The operating mechanism of the panic handle is concealed presenting a smooth uncluttered appearance. A new anti-rattle and sound deadening feature is also provided for the latch mechanism, and a particularly unique adjustment feature for in-field adjustment of latch length extension is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1983Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Blumcraft of PittsburghInventor: William J. Horgan, Jr.

Patent number: 4302037Abstract: A latch fastener for construction elements such as windows, doors or the like which includes a base member and a movable member having a latching hook configured to cooperate with a fixedly secured striker plate for selectively locking and unlocking the window or door. The members have positioned therebetween, several bearing balls which facilitate movement of the movable member and latching hook relative to the base member between at least two positions corresponding to the locked and unlocked positions of the window or door. The base member and movable member include correspondingly oppositely positioned tracks which define races for the bearing balls and which permit rolling movement of the bearing balls when the movable member is moved relative to said base member. A resilient spring retains the movable member and latching hook in a normal position corresponding to a locked position of the window or door as the case may.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1979Date of Patent: November 24, 1981Assignee: Metalurgica Rodynet Ltda.Inventor: Dario Nunez

Patent number: 4218082Abstract: The latch bolt assembly makes use of a metal latch bolt head in which is positioned an anti-friction insert extending entirely through a slot in the head from the angled face to the straight face. For holding the insert in place there is a slot in the inside end of the insert engaged by the head on a rod which projects into the inside end of the latch bolt head, in that way to secure the respective parts in interlocked relationship.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1979Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Assignee: Norris Industries, Inc.Inventor: James G. Patent number: 4060267Abstract: The bolt of a door latch or lock is made laterally adjustable to ensure both proper latching operation upon closing the door and also reasonably firm engagement of the catch with the fixed stop to ensure firm holding without vibratory or rattling movement. The adjustment is accomplished by adjusting the angle of emergence of the bolt with respect to the latch structure, e.g., the bolt case. The adjustment capability allows greater tolerance in the mounting of the latch upon the door.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1976Date of Patent: November 29, 1977Inventor: Paul Monfardini
