Patent number: 4433462Abstract: These tools efficiently and rapidly remove a snap ring and clips by initially applying a torque thereto along the length of the flat portion of the clip or along the annular length of the ring. When such rings and clips are thus stressed to a limited degree they exhibit resilient twisting or torsion about such axis. The tools are adapted to then displace the portion of the smap ring or clip that provides a locking action on the groove to which the ring or clip was attached in a direction in part at least perpendicular to the wide flat surface of the portion of the snap ring or clip in the vicinity of that then resiliently twisted portion of the ring or clip and so move that portion of the ring that initially provided locking action on the groove therefor in a direction parallel to or along the wider initial plan or surface of the snap of the snap ring or clip surface. Such movement controllably and readily disengages the locking portion of the snap ring or clip.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1981Date of Patent: February 28, 1984Inventor: Stratton, Thomas A.

Patent number: 4421353Abstract: A pallet puller for effecting engagement with a cargo pallet for sliding the same over a vehicle bed or like surface. In one form there are two pivotally mounted arms having cross pieces on their inner end. The cross pieces have lateral protrusions that fit beneath the stringer in the pallet so as to retain the pallet puller in place under virtually all conditions. There is mechanism for controllably pivoting the two arms between an open position and a closed position. In another form there is a single elongate arm with a cross piece on the end. The cross piece has lateral protrusions that fit beneath the pallet stringer to retain the pallet puller in place.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1980Date of Patent: December 20, 1983Inventor: James P. Patent number: 4417757Abstract: A record handling tool employs a retractable spindle for engaging and gripping the spindle hole of a recording disc. The retractable spindle is positioned coincident with the spindle hold by contact of two spaced-apart grooves on guide arms on a record handling tool with the circular rim of the recording disc. The retractable spindle is left in its retracted position while a support arm of the tool is inserted into a dust jacket between the dust jacket and the recording disc. When contact is made between the guide arms and the edge of the recording disc, thus positioning the retractable spindle coincident with the spindle hole of the recording disc, the retractable spindle is extended from the support arm thus passing through and gripping the recording disc by its spindle hole. The recording disc remains clamped in a three point grip including two spaced-apart points of contact on the circular edge of the recording disc as well as the single point of contact at the spindle hole.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1981Date of Patent: November 29, 1983Inventor: Thomas R. Morrison

Patent number: 4364592Abstract: The present invention provides a compact, multi-purpose log handling tool including a log handling hook with an integrally extending shank having an opening defined in its upper end. A loop shaped handle is received through the opening in the shank for mounting the hook to the handle. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the opening in the shank is generally flat-sided (rectangular, square or oval), and the handle has at least two sections of different cross-sectional area. The shank, and thus also the hook, is slideable between the two sections. The first handle section has a generally circular cross-sectional area and is of smaller dimension than the opening in the shank, and the second handle section has a cross-sectional area and dimension that identically compliments the size and shape of the opening in the shank. When the shank is slid into engagement over the first section of the handle, the hook is pivotal relative to the handle.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1981Date of Patent: December 21, 1982Inventor: Charles P.
