  • Patent number: 5178436
Abstract: A draft deflector for a sliding roof is disclosed for a removable roof section or the like. The deflector exhibits an airfoil profile which extends in the transverse direction of the vehicle, is arranged adjacent to a front edge of the roof opening and can be moved from a sunk inoperative position to a swivelled-up operative position and vice versa. In the operative position, the airfoil profile extends at a negative setting angle and projects beyond an imaginary roof contour at least in sections in the upward direction. In order to reliably avoid, during the driving operation, when the roof is open, the occurrence of annoying low-frequency vibrations in the vehicle interior (sliding roof rumbling) and to essentially maintain the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle, it is provided that the airfoil profile, in the operative position, is arranged such that it is ensured that the air current occurring in the driving operation flows around the airfoil profile on both sides.

  • Patent number: 5090767
Abstract: A sliding roof and/or a sliding lifting roof and/or a lifting sliding roof for motor vehicles has a safety device for preventing detachment from the motor vehicle of the cover which is displaceable for closing and at least partially unblocking a roof opening and which optionally can also be vented. The safety device has at least one flexible safety element, which is connected to the cover and at least indirectly to a part which is integral with the body of the motor vehicle. The flexible safety element can be designed as a catch band or catch cloth, and with the design as a catch cloth it can, at the same time, serve as a making screen. Further the flexible safety element can be physically or operatively connected to the sliding device and/or the vent device. This means at least one end of the flexible safety element can be movably guided, optionally in separate channels, on the guide rail which is fastened to the roof frame.

  • Patent number: 5054377
Abstract: A recreational vehicle vent (14,16) is formed of a streamlined body (12) having a forward fixed riser (14) and a movable cover (16) which, when closed, forms a smooth continuous aerodynamic surface together with the fixed riser. The cover is movably mounted to the vent frame by means of a pair of transversely extending crossed links (140,142) at the front and a second independent pair of transversely extending crossed links (200,202) at the back. The two link pairs are independently operated by geared actuators (180,206) so that either the front of the cover or the back of the cover can be independently lifted or both can be lifted together.

  • Patent number: 5052745
Abstract: In a motor vehicle equipped with a sliding roof, a wind deflector is provided to avoid disturbing vibrations in the vehicle interior. The wind deflector is movable between a retracted position and an extended, operative position. An additional air guiding element of narrower width than the wind deflector is mounted locally of the wind deflector. The air guiding element is movable between a first position in a depression of the wind deflector and a second operative position in which the air guiding element projects beyond the wind deflector in an upward direction. The air guiding element moves into the second position coincidentally with movement of the wind deflector into the operative position.

  • Patent number: 5052744
Abstract: In a slide roof system, guide rail stays are provided with engagement portions for securing a trough member, onto an inner frame, for receiving rain water which may drip from the slide roof panel. Since the guide rail stays are provided externally of the trough member which extends along the periphery of the opening of the inner frame, there are no sealing necessities for the trough member which may be made of an integral member made of synthetic resin. According to a preferred embodiment, a base member of a spring-loaded, retractable air deflector unit is provided with a longitudinal projection at its front end so as to be received by an engagement hole provided in a lateral piece extending from a part of the guide rail stays into the groove defined by a trough member, and an extension at its rear end which extends rearwardly over a rear end of the expanded portion of the trough member and fixedly secured to the inner frame by means of an engagement between a longitudinal slot and a threaded bolt and nut.

  • Patent number: 5018782
Abstract: Wind deflector for motor vehicle roofs with a cover to close or open a roof opening. The wind deflector exhibits an air conducting profile placed on the front edge of the roof opening that can be pushed out into an operating position under the influence of spring force and actuating arms connected to it which are hinged to pivot on an integral part of the roof and which, by sliding the cover in the closing direction, lower the air conducting profile member into a nonoperating position. The locking mechanisms include a ramp guide attached to the moving device, and a lift arm attached to the cover. The lift arm has a portion that rides up the ramp guide. The locking mechanisms include a lock slide slidingly attached to the ramp guide and having a slanted portion positioned above the riding up portion when the cover is in its open position for preventing the riding up portion of the lift arm and the cover from being vertically displaced in the open position.

  • Patent number: 4630859
Abstract: A wind deflector arrangement for a motor vehicle roof having a roof opening that can be closed by means of a sliding cover. The wind deflector can be pivoted around an axis extending transversely to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle along the front edge of the roof opening. The wind deflector has a body which, when the sliding cover is opened is swung out by spring power, and, when the sliding cover is closed, is swung in by a cam that is displaced as a function of the movement of the cover and which interacts with at least one lever arm that is connected with the wind deflector via a driving arrangement. The body of the wind deflector, at least partly, consists of an as extruded, extruded profiled part, the end edges of which are covered by attachment to the body of a respective end piece that, at the same time, is part of the driving arrangement connecting the lever arm with the wind deflector.

Abstract: A vehicle roof having a cover which, in a closed position, closes an opening in the roof and is rearwardly slidable along guide rails from the closed position toward the rear into an open position and provided with a wind deflector which is raised and lowered automatically as a function of the position of the cover. The wind deflector forms a part of the roofing located in front of the cover and is pivotable about an axis extending transversely relative to the sliding direction of the cover. The cover can be tilted out into a ventilating position in which it forms a continuous extension of the wind deflector, which is at least partially raised in conjunction with the tilting of the cover.

Abstract: A forward sunroof panel is first tilted front down to its open position and then a rearward sunroof panel is lowered back down and slid along and under a roof panel to its open position in regular sequence by shifting only a single wire driven by a motor. When the two sunroof panels are required to be closed, the wire is shifted in the reverse direction to first slide out the rearward panel from under the roof panel, then to raise it and finally to tilt the forward panel to its closed position. The apparatus comprises, in particular, a forward panel tilting mechanism including a latch and a detent lever and a rearward panel sliding mechanism including a pair of link arms and a set of three telescope brackets.

  • Patent number: 4561691
Abstract: A safety device for an electromechanical opening and closing mechanism, such as an automotive sun roof, which interrupts a circuit for driving the mechanism when a load on the circuit happens to exceed a certain set value in an abnormal case such as when a foreign object is caught in the mechanism. The set value is either a first set value which varies in accordance with the above-noted load or a second set value which is determined by the position of the movable part of the above-noted mechanism. The safety device functions when a load exceeds either of the two set values. The first set value is effective against a load variation, particularly a load decrease, to prevent a decrease in sensitivity decrease of the safety device, while the second set value is effective against an increase in load, particularly a slow increase, to prevent an overload on the mechanism.
