Multiple Links, Pivotally Connected To Back Patents (Class 297/101)
  • Patent number: 11338922
Abstract: A tracking base assembly for an aircraft seat includes base rails mounted to floor tracks in an aircraft cabin by floor track fittings in fixed positions, the base rails connected by a tracking member for providing longitudinal tracking while minimizing added height. The base rails include tracking slots extending longitudinally, and the tracking member includes tracking elements translatable forward and backward along the tracking slots, allowing an aircraft seat mounted to the tracking member to translate forward from a retracted configuration into an extended or berthing configuration (and backward to the retracted configuration). The tracking member includes a locking mechanism for locking the tracking member and seat in intermediate positions within the tracking slots. The tracking slots may be oriented slightly downward from the horizontal to allow for gravity-assisted tracking or to counteract the nose-up flight angles associated with cruising altitude, providing for easier seat tracking.

  • Publication number: 20140138991
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to passenger aircraft seats. In some embodiments of the present invention, a passenger seat is provided that utilizes existing standard pitch dimensions for multiple seating classes, in combination with a proprietary reconfiguration mechanism that allows passengers to maintain an acceptable knee clearance regardless of the seat's orientation. According to some embodiments, a passenger seat may reverse position of the backrest in a way that maintains passenger density (number of passengers per class), while providing appropriate levels of comfort and respect for current social norms related to personal space. In some embodiments, a reversible tray table is provided for use with the reversible seat. In some embodiments, the tray table may couple with an adjacent tray table with engagement features.

  • Patent number: 7775599
Abstract: The vehicle seat assembly having a seat bottom portion that is adapted to be attached to a vehicle. The seat bottom portion has a longitudinal axis. The seat back is disposed proximate the seat bottom portion. A linkage connects the seat back to the seat bottom portion. The linkage is configured to move substantially the entire seat back along the longitudinal axis of the seat bottom portion between a first position and a second position.

  • Patent number: 7644982
Abstract: A reversible seat assembly includes a pair of spaced apart risers. A seat cushion is operatively coupled to the risers for movement between a first inclined position wherein a front end is farther from the floor than a rear end and a second inclined position wherein the rear end is farther from the floor than the front end. A seat back is operatively coupled to the risers for movement between first and second upright positions adjacent the rear and front ends of the seat cushion, respectively. A seat cushion control mechanism includes a pair of forward and rearward linkages operatively coupled between the front and rear ends of the seat cushion and the risers for automatically controlling the seat cushion between the first and second inclined positions in response to movement of the seat back between the first and second upright positions thereby defining forward and rearward-facing seating positions.

  • Patent number: 6719366
Abstract: A passenger seat having a walk-over seat back mounted for movement on a pair of rotatable shafts through a pair of of levers mounted on each end of the shafts. The levers contact each other at opposite seat positions to support the seat back. The pair of shafts include a torsion section at each end portion capable of undergoing plastic deformation upon a lock mechanism detecting predetermined deceleration forces. A lever and link element are operatively connected between the seat cushion frame to permit movement. The seat cushion is removable secured to the seat cushion frame.

  • Patent number: 6715825
Abstract: A multi-positionable and reversible seat assembly (10) for use in an automotive vehicle includes a seat cushion (12) and a seat back operatively connected to the seat cushion. The seat cushion (12) and seat back (14) are supported above the floor of the vehicle by a pair of seat risers. The seat cushion (12) includes a front portion and an opposite rear portion and the seat back (14) includes an upper portion and a lower portion positioned adjacent the seat cushion. The seat assembly (10) is positionable between a plurality of upright and flat bed positions. The seat assembly (10) includes a pair of links for positioning the seat assembly (10) between a forward facing or rearward facing and upright seating position. The links also position the seat in a first or second flat, bed, position with the seat back extending horizontally from either the front portion or the rear portion of the seat cushion (12).

  • Patent number: 5362124
Abstract: The seat adjustment and inertial locking mechanism is suitable for use with walk-over seats, as well as with other vehicular seats that have a movable seat back. The inertial locking mechanism includes a first rotatable cam member that engages a linearly-movable first locking member when the vehicle is traveling in a first direction and undergoes rapid deceleration. A braking surface on the first cam member engages a braking surface on the locking member to prevent further movement of the seat back. In a walk-over seat when the seat back has been moved to the second position and when the vehicle is traveling in a second direction, the second rotatable cam member engages a linearly-movable second locking member upon rapid deceleration of the vehicle. An adjustment means is also provided for tilting the bottom seat cushion when the seat back is moved from the first position to the second position.

  • Patent number: 5149171
Abstract: A vehicle seat has a seat back mounted for walkover movement from one end of the seat to the other end. Associated with the seat back is an inertial latching system which is normally inoperative so as to allow walkover movement of the seat back. During deceleration of the vehicle above a preselected magnitude, the latching system is actuated to restrain walkover movement of the seat back and to progressively absorb any impact into the seat back from behind, as would occur during a sudden stop or crash. The latching system automatically deactuates itself upon cessation of any tendency by the seat back to undergo walkover movement.
