Patent number: 8894141Abstract: A bicycle seat clamp assembly includes a body having opposing side faces with an arched first and second lower guide rail outwardly project therefrom, respectively. A first wing clamp is positioned on the first lower guide rail while a second wing clamp is positioned on the second lower guide rail. A primary fastener attaches the first wing clamp and the second wing clamp to the body, the primary fastener being movable between a first position wherein the first wing clamp and the second wing clamp are rigidly fixed to the body and a second position wherein the first wing clamp and the second wing clamp can freely slide along the first lower guide rail and the second lower guide rail, respectively. Structure is also provided for releasably securing a bicycle seat to the first wing clamp and the second wing clamp independent of movement of the primary fastener.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2013Date of Patent: November 25, 2014Inventor: Kevin Christopher Tisue

Patent number: 7125072Abstract: A seat rail for a bicycle seat and a method of fabricating same are disclosed. The seat rail comprises a rod having one or more flutes formed along the length of the rod. The seat rail provides support for a bicycle seat and provides means for securing the seat to the frame of a bicycle. The flutes in the rod reduce the effective cross-sectional area of the rod which results in a significant decrease in the weight of the seat rail, but without a significant loss of rigidity and strength. The fabrication method comprises providing an elongated rod-shaped feedstock, forming at least one flute along the length of the rod-shaped feedstock, and then bending the fluted feedstock to form the seat rail.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2004Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Dynamet Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Clifford M. Bugle, Robin L. Pesa, Jill R. McGibbney

Patent number: 5971477Abstract: A crescent shaped seating device having a posterior outer curvature and an anterior inner curvature conforming to the natural curvature of the body when in a seated position. The seating device is continuously formed from a multi-element alloy balanced polyurethane semi-rigid material which produces a microcellular core with a tough textured exterior skin integrally formed with the core. Symmetrically arranged, mirror image at least two lateral support means provide additional padding, keep a user centered on the seating device and provide lateral support to the user. An internal frame is encased by and reinforces the seating device. Receiving means are fixedly attached to the internal frame, extend to the lower surface of the seating device and are removably attached to attaching rails. A light system renders the seating device highly visible.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1998Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Inventors: Dennis L. Bell, Linda J. Jaye

Patent number: 5911473Abstract: A shock-absorbing bicycle saddle including a resilient seat for engaging the crotch portion of a user and a frame for attaching the seat to a conventional, seat post of a bicycle. The frame has a support bracket formed from stiff wire. One end of the support bracket is secured by a shock dampener to the seat and the other end thereof is secured by another shock dampener to a seat post attachment bracket. Each of the shock dampeners includes a number of cushioning blocks adapted to receive therein one of the opposed ends of the support bracket. In an alternative embodiment of the saddle, the shock dampener adjacent the seat post attachment bracket is replaced by a pair of coiled loops integrally formed with the support bracket.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1998Date of Patent: June 15, 1999Inventor: James D. Hill

Patent number: 5676420Abstract: A bicycle saddle providing uniform support to riders of significantly different weight ranges is provided. The saddle includes a variable support assembly for incrementally altering the rider support characteristics of the saddle. The variable support assembly comprises a plurality of lightweight, semi-rigid rods that are dimensioned to extend from the front end to the tail of a shell of the saddle. A plurality of retaining assemblies are affixed to an underside of the shell and are positioned parallel to a longitudinal axis of the saddle. The retaining assemblies each include a pair of receiving portions affixed to the underside of the shell for receiving ends of the rods, for detachably coupling the rods to the shell. A plurality of clips are affixed to the underside of the shell and interposed between receiving portions.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1996Date of Patent: October 14, 1997Inventors: Raymond J. Kuipers, Dominica R. Kuipers

Patent number: 5597202Abstract: A bicycle seat having a single piece of fabric slung across a frame member and resembling a hammock. The fabric is drawn taut and resides generally in a single plane. In contrast to a saddle seat which requires one to straddle one's buttocks across a small padded seat with weight unevenly distributed thereon, the present invention forms a sling to evenly support the weight of the rider across a large surface area. The fabric has an elongated sleeve at one end which is threaded over the frame, and can be easily removed therefrom for washing or replacement. The frame is comprised of a single rod formed into an upwardly extending triangular frame. An adjusting mechanism at the proximal end of the seat can be adjusted to effect the tautness of the fabric. A conventional coupling clamp is implemented to couple the seat frame to a conventional bicycle.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1995Date of Patent: January 28, 1997Inventor: Scott Andersen

Patent number: 4099769Abstract: An apparatus for adjusting tension in an elongated bicycle saddle. The apparatus includes a frame underlying the saddle and having one end in abutting contact with a flaired trailing portion of the saddle and the other end in proximity to a narrow leading portion of the saddle. An adjustment yoke is connected to the other end of the frame and provides a bearing seat for abutting reception of an adjustment member. A thrust bearing member extends through a downwardly contoured tip portion of the saddle and carries the adjustment member such that axial tension of the saddle may be facilely adjusted through the tip of the bicycle saddle.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1977Date of Patent: July 11, 1978Assignee: The Jacobs CorporationInventor: David L.
