  • Patent number: 6733071
Abstract: A self-locking rocker recliner is provided. The rocker recliner includes a base frame and a rocking frame that is rockably connected to said base frame. The rocking frame supports seating surfaces of the rocker recliner, such as a seat back, a seat bottom, a footrest, and armrests. The rocking frame includes an upper rocking frame and a lower rocking frame that are movably connected so that the rocker recliner can be adjusted between an upright position and at least one reclined position, such as a TV or fully reclined position. The rocker recliner can be reclined by rotating a recline lever on the side of the rocker recliner, and reclining the rocker recliner can also cause the extension of a footrest. A lockout lever, which is attached to the rocker recliner, is configured to be moved by a user between a locked position and an unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 6676206
Abstract: A rocking, reclining, foldable chair is disclosed. The invention comprises a curved rocker or rockers having a limiting extension; a leg or legs pivotally attached to said rocker; a seat pivotally attached to said leg or legs; a releasable support pivotally attached to any two of the aforesaid parts to prevent said chair from folding unexpectedly; a back pivotally attached to said seat or leg or legs; a pair of arms movably connected to said back; and a leg rest pivotally attached to said seat and said arms, said leg rest being movable between a rocking and a reclining position; and moving means for moving said leg rest, said back and said seat between said rocking and said reclining position.

  • Patent number: 6612651
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for imparting substantially oscillatory horizontal motion to a subject. The apparatus has a translating support assembly, an oscillatory mechanism, and an actuator permitting the subject to apply a non-gravitational acceleration to the translating support assembly. The oscillatory mechanism has a linkage assembly with mounts offset in a plane transverse to the direction of motion so as to permit a large stroke of travel of the translating support assembly relative to a fixed support structure. Additionally, a locking mechanism is provided that is biased to preclude motion of the oscillatory mechanism in the absence of a substantial weight on the support assembly.

Abstract: The hinge mechanism (10) is attached to at least one of the seat back or seat pan flange (12, 14) by a joining system comprising at least one assembly component (3) connected to the hinge mechanism and passing through a hole in the flange. The hole features a raised collar (4) which is tapered, at least in part, and is radially gripped in a hole (52) made in a thrust component (5) connected to the said assembly component such that it is pressed axially against the flange. The assembly component (3) features a tapered male section (32) of appropriate diameter to fit into the tapered collar (4) when the hinge mechanism is assembled with the flange, and the bore (52) of the thrust component is also tapered so as to form a female tapered section capable of gripping the tapered collar between the said bore and male tapered section when the thrust component is pressed up against the flange.

  • Patent number: 6318803
Abstract: An apparatus for imparting substantially oscillatory motion to a subject. The apparatus has a support assembly for supporting the subject and an oscillatory mechanism for defining a path of motion of the support assembly, the path having a region of bilateral symmetry with respect to a reference point. An actuator assembly which may be coupled to the oscillatory mechanism enables the subject to control the oscillatory mechanism, as well as to brake and lock the motion of the mechanism. The apparatus may allow for the subject to recline on an articulated support assembly, in which case the equilibrium center of gravity of the support assembly is maintained substantially at the centerpoint of the path of motion regardless of the relative orientation of the articulated segments of the support assembly.

  • Patent number: 6231120
Abstract: A reclining mechanism for a furniture item includes support structure adapted for attachment to the furniture item, a footrest support bar connected for longitudinal movement with respect to the support structure between extended and retracted positions and actuating structure connected with the footrest support bar. The footrest support bar includes an S-shaped section and is connected to a footrest member for supporting the legs of the seat occupant. The actuating structure moves the footrest support bar along the S-shaped section between the extended and retracted positions to closely approximate a conventional footrest portion of a reclining mechanism, while presenting a simplified construction.
