Abstract: An article of wicker furniture is provided that includes one or more wicker lengths, where the length includes a fin portion extending from a raised portion. Disclosed embodiments employ a Q-shaped wicker length as an example. When installed or affixed on a frame of an article of furniture, the fin portion may be stapled or otherwise connected to the frame, such that the Q-shaped wicker lengths overlap each other to form a nested configuration that is protective of the points of affixation, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. Also provided are methods of manufacturing an article of wicker furniture using Q-shaped wicker lengths.

Abstract: A portable chair includes an undulating wave-shaped body. The undulating wave-shaped body has a convex lower portion which transitions into a concave mid-section, which in turn transitions into a convex upper portion. The chair further includes a support leg pivotally attached to the body and being movable between a closed position for storage and carrying and an open position for seating. The support leg is concave shaped to substantially conform to the shape of the concave mid-section of the body when in the closed position.

Abstract: A fabric, a fabric manufacturing method and a vehicle seat are provided. The fabric has one surface and an opposite surface, and includes a constituent yarn having at least an elastic yarn; and a chenille yarn having a core yarn and a pile yarn. At least one kind of yarn of the constituent yarn is shaped in a waveform as seen from a sectional direction of the fabric. The core yarn is located closer to the opposite surface than an imaginary line, the imaginary line being formed by connecting each of peaks of mountain portions of the waveform in the one surface.

Abstract: A mesh chair component having contours that support a user appropriately can be made by combining a plurality of mesh panels to form the component. For instance, in a preferred embodiment of the present inventions, three preformed mesh panels are combined to form the back rest of a chair that provides its user with lumbar support without the necessity of additional structural support. In an alternative embodiment of the present invention, mesh panels are used in combination with a beneficially contoured frame to provide a chair seat with a waterfall front.

Abstract: Building materials formed from synthetic polymer materials have an appearance which simulates natural woods. The building materials may be used in the construction of fences, sheds, decking materials, indoor/outdoor furniture, railings and numerous other products. The faux wood material is constructed to include reinforcing fibers and voids for weight reduction. The aesthetic appearance of the finished product can be enhanced by applying a color wash which includes a polymer component and a color component adhering to the surface of the material.

Abstract: An article of furniture includes a frame and a woven panel forming at least one of a seat portion and a backrest portion having an exposed outer surface. The woven panel includes a plurality of synthetic polymer yarns attached to the frame forming interstices within the woven panel. A wash is adhered to at least a portion of the exposed outer surface of the woven panel and within the interstices. A plurality of the yarns within the woven panel is bonded together by the wash within the interstices.

Abstract: A composite tubing includes: an outer tubing which is prepared by seaming along a lengthwise direction two lateral sides of a lengthwise-extending strip made from a deformable material, the lateral sides being disposed opposite to each other in a transverse direction relative to the lengthwise direction, and being superimposed on each other so as to form a tubular body and a seamed ridge, the tubular body including a force-bearing-side half and a ridge-side half cooperating with each other to define a compressible tubular chamber, the seamed ridge extending from the ridge-side half radially and lengthwise; and a fiber-based rope disposed to extend lengthwise in the compressible tubular chamber, and being of a dimension such that, when the force-bearing-side half is pressed and deformed, the fiber-based rope is shiftable against the ridge-side half so as to vest the tubular body with an increased strength while preserving the padding effect of the force-bearing-side half.

Abstract: A method and system for mounting wicker fibers onto furniture frame members; the system involves a flexible securing rod and at least one frame member with a channel configured to retain the securing rod. The frame member provides at least one channel access point along the channel that enables the securing rod to be inserted fully into the channel and further to enable a portion of the securing rod to be manipulated to expose a portion of the securing rod so that a wicker fiber can be looped around the securing rod. The exposed portion of the flexible securing rod may then be re-inserted into the channel. Thus, in application a frame member may be incorporated into a furniture frame in a complementary configuration permitting the wicker fibers to be woven. The wicker may be looped about securing rods located in complementary frame members so as to create a sling mounted wicker panel.

Abstract: A woven panel is formed from a plurality of elongated yarns, with and without a center core. The core yarns provide mechanical strength for the woven material in supporting the coreless yarns when used in load bearing articles such as the seat or back portions of an article of furniture.

Abstract: Synthetic yarns are formed from polymer materials which preferably are self-twisted to give a multi-yarn effect. The yarns are used to form woven panels for use in furniture. The single strand yarns have the appearance of multiple strands, while saving on the heating and twisting involved with handling multiple strands.

Abstract: An article of furniture having a removable seat or back cushion. The design includes a frame having a recessed cushion support surface that creates a rim that defines a pocket that allows a seat or back cushion having first and second portions to be securely attached to the article. The first cushion portion is placed adjacent the recessed support surface, and a peripheral lip of the first portion is placed into the pocket in order to secure the cushion to the frame. The second portion provides the user contact surface. In one embodiment, the second portion substantially obscures the edge of the rim from view. As a result, the present invention maintains the aesthetic appeal of an article of furniture having removable seat or back cushions, while providing a more secure and relatively unobvious attachment of the cushions.

Abstract: An improved support area for use with rattan furniture. The present invention provides a frame, a seat contact portion, and a back contact portion. In various embodiments, the chair includes a seat cushion that is supported by a seat support portion of the frame. The seat cushion is covered on its outside by a rattan outer layer that is attached to the seat support structure such that the rattan outer layer conforms to the shape of the seat cushion and the presence of the seat cushion is obscured by the rattan outer layer. In other embodiments, the back support portion may include a similarly configured back cushion. As a result, the present invention has the appearance and aesthetic appeal of a typical article of rattan furniture, having rattan seat and back surfaces, however the present invention provides a level of comfort that is not typically provided by rattan seat and/or back surfaces.

Abstract: An article of furniture is made from elongated polymer filaments. The polymer filaments may be monofilaments or plural filaments which are twisted together and heat set to prevent their untwisting during the subsequent weaving process. The heat setting of the polymer filaments is achieved by heating the polymer material either before or after the twisting process.

Abstract: A stackable arm chair is constructed from the combination of a frame which supports woven material to form the chair's seat, back and side arm portions. Openings provided in the side arm portions enable passage of the rear legs of an adjacent arm chair to provide a nested forward stack occupying a minimum of volume. A second side arm portion is arranged overlying the opening from outside the frame to obscure the openings to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the arm chair.
