This is accomplished by the stable balance of the linkage. Sequencing devices are likewise not needed; interaction of the components constrain the movement of the linkage, such that there is only one possible path of travel. • Patent number: 4707025
Abstract: A rocker-recliner chair utilizing but two mounting links for mounting the seat and backrest to the rocker cams and which mounting links are also utilized to position the chair in advanced reclining positions beyond the TV position. The chair is biased to the TV position wherein the footrest is extended, by the weight of the chair occupant acting through the rear mounting link. However, the chair is retained in upright position against the gravity basis by a spring-loaded lock mechanism which is actuated by a handle to release the lock mechanism to allow the occupant's weight to drive the chair to TV position. When moving to TV position, the seat undergoes a certain amount of rearward displacement relative to the rocking cams to position the weight of the occupant to the rear while a "landing gear" stop descends to engage the base to thus prevent rearward rocking of the chair.

  • Patent number: 4437701
Abstract: The present invention provides a rocker-blocking mechanism for a platform rocking chair which when activated, typically in conjunction with thrusting of a legrest which lifts the user's feet away from the reassurance of floor contact. The rocker-blocking mechanism includes a forwardly presented, vertically elongated slot mounted in a medially disposed linkage between the chair rocker cam unit and legrest operating mechanism. A rearwardly presented, forward-to-rear tapering wedge element is disposed through the slot, in a linkage between the chair base and the chair rocker cam unit. When the legrest is in a retracted condition, the wedge is so located that there is plenty of space above and below the wedge within the slot to permit free rocking. As the legrest is thrust, the slot is quickly moved relatively forwards along the wedge to a position where the wedge vertically fills the slot, thus blocking rocking.

  • Patent number: 4154475
Abstract: A reclinable chair is rockable on a frame which is movable forwardly on a base. The chair and frame are supported on the base on a pair of facing channels which slope downwardly from the rear to the front of the base. The frame and base are locked together in the rear and forward positions, the lock at the rear being released when the activating handle for the legrest at the side of the chair is raised 10.degree. or 15.degree.. The further movement of the handle extends the legrest forwardly of the seat. The seating of the occupant in the chair assists in the movement of the chair to the forward position during which a spring between the frame and base is tensioned for returning the chair to the rear position when the occupant leaves the seat and permits the springs of the seat to move upwardly and release the front latch. A lever prevents the rocking of the chair until it reaches the forward position where it is stopped in its forward movement to release the chair for rocking.

  • Patent number: 4153292
Abstract: A reclining chair that is disposable adjacent a wall and can recline at the wall. The chair includes a chair frame, a back frame, a seat frame, a platform, and first and second link assemblies. The first link assembly connects the back frame to the seat frame and the chair frame on both sides permitting the back frame to recline and the seat frame to move relative to the back frame forwardly and upwardly. The second link assembly has arms connected to the first link assembly for moving the back, seat and chair frames simultaneously forwardly on the platform a predetermined distance of forward movement along with the arms of the second link assembly, so that the arms of the second link assembly move the same distance forwardly plus an additional distance forwardly as the back frame is being reclined.

  • Patent number: 4077663
Abstract: This chair comprises a chair body having arm rests and being fixed to tracks mounted for longitudinal movement on stationary tracks supported on a floor. Seat links, a leg rest and linkage mechanism connecting said seat links and leg rest to the body and to each other, permit the seat links, and leg rest to be moved from upright position to T.V. position, and then to fully reclined position, and back to T.V. position and upright position. Links are pivoted, connecting the stationary tracks and the movable tracks with said linkage mechanism, to move the body and its movable tracks, longitudinally forwardly relative to the stationary tracks as the seat links, backrest and leg rest move from upright to T.V. position, and to then move the body and its movable track, further forwardly longitudinally relative to the stationary track, as the seat links, backrest and leg rest move from T.V. position to fully reclined position.

  • Patent number: 3937518
Abstract: In this chair, the hardware has means to hold the seat against backward movement, while allowing movement of the seat up and down and forwardly. The headrest and legrest are projected when going from upright to T.V. position and the headrest and legrest remain in projected position when going from T.V. position to fully reclined position and from fully reclined position back to T.V. position; and they are retracted when going from T.V. position back to upright position.
