  • Patent number: 5449224
Abstract: A levered, gravity-assisted, side dump utility cart for transporting and dumping objects and materials has load carrying apparatus, bedframe, a rear carriage, a 360 degree rotatable front carriage, four wheels, and towbar unit. A towbar is used as a lever against underside regions of the bedframe by the operator for manually dumping of loads from either side of the cart. Proximate maximum gravity assistance for levered dumping is obtained by unique and predetermined wheel alignments for each selected embodiment of the side dump cart. For such levered dumping, dump alignment devices define the towbar positions where the proximate maximum gravity assistance is obtained for dumping the load with proximate minimum upward and horizontal force on the towbar lever. The range of selectability and the extent of gravity assistance available to the operator for dumping the cart is determined by the embodiment of this invention.

  • Patent number: 4909694
Abstract: A round bale trailer includes a trailer that travels in a hay field in the same direction that the field is normally worked to approach round hay bales in a direction perpendicular to the bales' axes. A U-shaped fork on the round bale trailer engages three sides of the bale. A closing arm on the fork closes to engage the bale on the fourth side. Continued motion of the trailer causes the fork and bale to rotate together 90 degrees about a vertical axis such that the fork closes to nest within a generally U-shaped frame. A hydraulic cylinder immediately operates to pivot the frame and fork to a vertical attitude, such that the bale rolls off the fork and onto the trailer. Pivoting the frame to the horizontal attitude automatically opens the fork by the use of a spring. All the bales are unloaded at one time by an unloading mechanism that tilts the trailer such that the bales roll off one side thereof.

  • Patent number: 4407202
Abstract: A railroad dump car, such as a side dump rail car, uses hydraulic actuators to tilt the dump body to permit unloading of the contents of the dump body. A hydraulic booster pump is connected to the auxiliary air supply of the train. The booster pump converts the relatively low pressure (about 90 psi) air to a high hydraulic pressure (about 3000 psi). In another embodiment, a bidirectional rotary pump driven from the rail car axle pumps the hydraulic fluid. The booster pump (or the bidirectional rotary pump) pumps hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic reservoir to a hydraulic accumulator, which receives the hydraulic fluid and stores the hydraulic fluid under pressure. When the hydraulic accumulator is fully charged, the operator triggers a valve to cause dumping. The valve causes the hydraulic accumulator means to supply the pressurized hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic actuators, which pivot the dump body with respect to the car frame to unload the contents of the dump body.

  • Patent number: 4327945
Abstract: A transporter or vehicle for articles having a container for receiving articles to be transported. A frame assembly supports the container on a chassis. Guides extend vertically upwardly from the chassis for guiding vertical translation of the frame, and the frame is pivotally connected to an upper portion of the container so that the container is rotatable about one of its side edges. Piston-cylinder units are interconnected between fore and aft portions of the chassis and the container in such manner that initial movement of the pistons out of the cylinders vertically translates the interconnected frame and container. After the frame and container have reached a predetermined height, continued movement of the pistons out of the cylinders results in pivoting of the container with respect to the frame to thereby dump the contents of the container.

  • Patent number: 4280779
Abstract: A container dumping mechanism includes first and second sides. A carrier is positioned on the frame for movement relative thereto. The carrier includes a mechanism for supporting a container to be dumped. A dumping assembly is operably connected to the carrier and includes an actuating mechanism which is selectively actuable in first and second modes. In the first mode, the actuating mechanism is actuable to raise and generally invert the carrier at the first side of the frame to dump the contents of the container over the first side. In the second mode, the actuating mechanism is actuable to raise and generally invert the carrier at the second side of the frame to dump the contents of the container over the second side. The actuating mechanism is further actuable in a third mode for rotating the carrier essentially in place about a longitudinal axis to dump the contents of the container directly therebeneath.

Abstract: A dumping transport vehicle is provided for transporting picked or stripped cotton from a harvester back to the module. A large capacity dump box or basket features strategically located wire mesh panels to allow air to escape when the cotton is delivered into the dump basket so that the cotton will not boil out over the top of the dump basket and will properly settle therein. Additionally, the vehicle features improved geometry for the basket dumping cylinders in relation to the dumping pivot for the basket and the supporting wheeled frame so that the loaded device will be stable and will remain adequately stable when the cotton is dumped into the top of the module.
