Dump Body Covers, Control Means Therefor Patents (Class 298/23C)
  • Patent number: 5795031
Abstract: A top-dumping container handling vehicle for receiving, carrying and dumping at least one container having at least one locking slot is provided. The container handler has a frame which has an attached support structure. At least one container cradle for receiving and holding the container is supported by the support structure for movement between a centered position and at least one dump position. The container cradle includes at least one hooking or locking assembly that is movable between a hooked or locked position, wherein the locking assembly does not interfere with the loading of the container into the container cradle, and an unhooked or unlocked position, wherein the locking assembly engages the corresponding locking slot on the container, thereby preventing movement or shifting of the container relative to the container cradle. The container handling vehicle also has a dumping assembly which moves the container cradle between the centered and the dump position.

  • Patent number: 5498066
Abstract: Trucks which haul waste and fine, loose materials which are top loading through an open top need a cover to retain the material such as during travel. A full length cover, when raised for loading, may adversely affect the stability of the truck. An articulated cover includes a forward portion pivotally connected to the truck hauling body and a rearward portion pivotally connected to the forward portion. When the forward portion is raised the rearward portion folds downward against and parallel to the forward portion. This reduces the height of the raised cover to approximately one-half of the cover total length. Tie members are connected to the rear portion of the cover and to the hauling body and engage guide members on the cover to cause the rearward portion to unfold to an extended position when the forward portion is pivoted toward a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5249842
Abstract: A collector cart includes a body having an open rear end closed by a canopy pivotally connected to the body adjacent their front ends. A tow bar, which has the body pivotally connected thereto, has a support, which has caster wheels connected thereto for support, for the body. The tow bar has a quick hook-up requiring no tools at its forward end for connection to a hitch on a riding lawn mower. When the cart is to be dumped, a first handle is rotated by an operator, who remains on the mower, to initially cause pivoting of a rear portion of a frame of the canopy, which includes a cover on the frame, relative to the body and the remainder of the canopy frame to unlock the rear portion of the canopy from the rear of the body. After unlocking is accomplished, a second handle, which is pivotally mounted on the body and has a portion engaging the tow bar to prevent pivoting of the body, is rotated by the operator to disengage its engaging portion from the tow bar.

  • Patent number: 5080442
Abstract: A collector cart includes a body having an open rear end, which is closed by a canopy pivotally mounted adjacent its front end on the body adjacent its front end. The body has a support pivotally connected to caster wheel supports and a tow bar attached to a riding lawn mower hitch plate. Telescoping chutes connect the mower outlet with a canopy port to fill the cart with debris. When the cart is to be dumped, a first handle is rotated by an operator, who remains on the mower, to initially cause pivoting of a rear portion of a frame of the canopy, which includes a cover on the frame, relative to the body and the remainder of the canopy frame to release a locking connection of the rear portion of the canopy frame to the rear of the body.

  • Patent number: 5058956
Abstract: The present invention entails a hydraulically actuated tarp retraction and extension system for a truck wherein the system provides for the automatic extension or retraction of a tarp about the load bed of the truck. A tarp reel assembly is provided and includes a a tarp which is biased by the reel assembly itself to assume a wound or retracted position. A pair of swing arms are connected to a leading edge of the tarp and are in turn connected to a hydraulic control system which is operative to extend the tarp to a covered position over the load bed and wherein the tarp reel assembly is operative to wind the tarp in response to the arms being moved towards the tarp reel assembly. In one mode of operation, the hydraulic control system automatically provides for the retraction of the tarp in response to the load bed of the vehicle being raised from a horizontal position to a generally vertical dumping position.

  • Patent number: 4915570
Abstract: A body for a recycling truck has a plurality of interior movable partitions dividing the interior of the body into compartments. The partitions are hinged at their top edges to pivot rearward of the body. The partitions are locked using a pneumatically activated lever, and the partitions may be locked and unlocked remotely. A trough is located alongside the body, and the trough has removable buckets or movable interior partitions so that trough divisions correspond to the interior partitions of the body. The roof has a movable panel enabling the trough contents to be dumped within the body, and the trough is operated by a driven chain and sprocket mechanism located at either end of it.

  • Patent number: 4836610
Abstract: A collector cart includes a body having an open rear end, which is closed by a canopy pivotally mounted adjacent its front end on the body adjacent its front end. The body has a support pivotally connected to caster wheel supports and a tow bar attached to a riding lawn mower hitch bar. Telescoping chutes connect the mower outlet with a canopy port to fill the cart with debris. When the cart is to be dumped, a linkage mechanism is activated by an operator, who remains on the mower, raising a lift handle to initially cause rearward shifting of the canopy relative to the body to release a locking connection of the rear of the canopy to the rear of the body. The body is released from its tow bar at the same time so that continued raising of the lift handle by the operator causes the body to pivot to a dumping position while the canopy pivots away from the body due to a rope of a fixed length connecting the front of the canopy to the mower.

  • Patent number: 4699393
Abstract: The present invention relates to a multi-purpose trailer (24) with a universal mounting hitch (26) for use with a garden tractor (22). The multi-purpose trailer (24) includes two U-shaped front ends (36) having horizontally aligned apertures (40) therein to enable two point pivotal attachment to the garden tractor (22). The trailer (24) is supported above the surface of the ground by a single, pivotal wheel (46) and further includes a trailer box (30) which is pivotal about a substantially horizontal axis proximate the back end of the trailer. The universal mounting hitch (26) includes a U-shaped bracket (151) including two spaced apart vertically extending legs (152) including a plurality of apertures (164) therein. The vertically extending legs (152) are interconnected by a horizontally extending member (154) including a plurality of apertures (158). The apertures (158) enable attachment of the U-shaped bracket (151) to the draw bar of the garden tractor (22).

  • Patent number: 4430038
Abstract: A chassis supports a main frame with one open side, and a dump box with an open upper side is situated within the main frame and pivoted to the other side of the main frame. An hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly can move the box from the vertical or normal position to a tilted or unloading position. The dump box is pivoted to the upper side of the main frame at a line spaced from the top side edge of the dump box so that the top side edge extends beyond the side of the wagon when tipped or tilted. A conveyor is situated on the side of the dump box which is pivoted to the main frame and driven by an hydraulic motor. Material is loaded in the open upper side of the dump box and when it is to be unloaded, the dump box is tilted whereupon the conveyor unloads the material from the open upper side of the dump box.

  • Patent number: 4378188
Abstract: A cover assembly is provided which is adapted for use on a receptacle transporting vehicle having a receptacle supporting scull frame swingable from a receptacle transport position to a dumping position for discharging molten contents of the receptacle. Included in the assembly is an insulated lid member for opening and closing the receptacle, the closure position retarding heat loss from the molten contents to preclude solidification during transport thereof between spaced locations. A pair of laterally spaced-apart support arms, mounted so as to move concurrently with the swingable scull frame, position the lid member adjacent the top of the receptacle during scull frame movement and especially during transport of the receptacle from one location to another. A pivot assembly rotates the support arms for similar movement of the attached lid between receptacle opening and closure positions, such movement being independent of the scull frame movement.
