Automatic, Positive, Non-motor Endgate Opening Means Patents (Class 298/23D)
  • Patent number: 6092863
Abstract: An assembly which automatically opens the tailgate of a container when the container is tilted from a transport position to a dump position for rear dumping by a container transport vehicle is provided. The tailgate having a pair of side arms each of which is pivotally connected to a respective one of the side walls of the container such that the tailgate can rotate relative to the container between open and closed positions. The assembly of the present invention includes a counterbalance assembly which is pivotally connected to the frame of a container transport vehicle. The assembly also includes a hook member which is pivotally connected at one end thereof to the side arm of the tailgate and which has a free end. The counterbalance assembly including a hook pin and the free end of hook member being configured to engage the hook pin.

  • Patent number: 6015191
Abstract: A tailgate apparatus which automatically opens and closes a tailgate positioned at the rear of a tiltable truck bed of a dump truck. The tailgate is rigidly connected and orthogonally oriented to two spaced forwardly extending gate arms, the forward ends of which are preferably pivotally connected to adjacent the upper margins of the side walls of the truck bed. The tailgate thus moves arcuately upward from the closed position against the ends of the side walls and bottom by an elongated pivot arm which is pivotally connected at each end thereof between the gate arm, preferably each of two gate arms, and a stationary point of the dump truck near the truck bed transverse pivotal tilting axis as the truck bed is tilted. The entire tailgate will thus move manditorily upward arcuately to a position above the side walls to the degree that the truck bed is tilted so that the truck bed may carry and dump debris piled much higher than the side walls.

  • Patent number: 5299856
Abstract: A dump vehicle, such as for agricultural use, includes a movable support member and a slide structure for supporting and guiding the support member, a container pivotally mounted to the support member, a hydraulic actuator mechanism actuable to lift the container from an original lowered position to a predetermined raised position and to tilt the container at the support member when in the predetermined raised position to a preselected tilted position to permit discharge of the contents of the container. The dump vehicle further includes a hydraulic lock mechanism actuable in response to tilting of the container towards the tilted position to lock the support member in the predetermined raised position to prevent over centering and downward movement of the container from the predetermined raised position during tilting and discharging of the container.

  • Patent number: 5100279
Abstract: A material handling apparatus includes a tractor/trailer vehicle which can mount and dismount ore receiving containers, which can transport the containers between a collection site and a deposit site and which can dump ore out of a container at the deposit site. Each container defines a housing with an interior and an open rear area. A tailgate assembly includes a pair of bell crank arms pivotally secured on either side of the container and a tailgate mounted between first arm portions thereof to close the open rear area. A transport frame, preferable on the trailer section of the tractor/trailer vehicle, defines a support for a tiltable bed pivoted mounted on a rear portion of the frame. A linkage assembly is centrally mounted on each side of the tiltable bed and each linkage assembly includes a cam member driven by a pair of first hydraulic cylinders.

  • Patent number: 5021156
Abstract: The truck has an hydraulic pump for receiving dredged mixture of solids and water from a pumping site and delivering the mixture to the truck body. A fixed partition wall is mounted transversely in the body and divides the body into first and second open compartments. The first compartment receives the mixture from the pump means to enable solids to settle at the bottom of the first compartment and the water rises towards the top of the compartment. The second compartment receives the water which rises in the first compartment and the partition wall. Drain means are selectively operable to effect removal of substantially all water from the second compartment. A one-way valve is located between the first and second compartments and is operable when the body is tilted to permit residual water in the second compartment to flow into the first compartment to effect removal of remaining solid matter from the first compartment by washing it out of the tilted body via the open tailgate.

  • Patent number: 4902188
Abstract: A vehicle for transporting shopping trolley or carts. The vehicle has a tray for the loading of the shopping trolleys, and adapted for movement from a transportation position to a lower loading position in which trolleys can be easily loaded thereon. The tray maintains a substantially constant horizontal orientation through this movement. A tailgate or rear ramp is positioned at the rear of the tray and is movable between a ground engaging position and a raised position generally blocking the rear of the tray. A mechanical leverage mechanism lowers the ramp as the tray is being raised and raises the ramp as the tray is being raised between their respective upper and lower positions.

  • Patent number: 4699428
Abstract: A tailgate and dump body assembly for use on dump trucks or trailers utilizes a plurality of U-shaped structural steel elements in a unitized body to prevent lateral deformation and vibration. The dump body terminates in one such element and the tailgate seats against this element when closed. The tailgate is pivotally mounted at the top to a linkage which lowers and raises the tailgate into and out of wedge-like engagement with an inclined stop member affixed to the rear of the dump body. Raising the tailgate permits it to swing open upon elevation of the dump body while lowering the tailgate into engagement with the stop member prevents inadvertent opening of the gate.

  • Patent number: 4685619
Abstract: A spreader 10, cooperating with a dump body 11 having a conventional tailgate 20, includes a conveyor 15 extending through an opening 12 in the lower region of tailgate 20 to rest on bottom 13 of body 11 and extend aft of tailgate 20. A hopper 30 underneath a rear end of conveyor 15 receives rearward flowing material that it guides downward to a spinner 50 arranged below hopper 30. The conveyor 15, hopper 30, and spinner 50 are all removable from tailgate 20 and dump body 11 so that the truck can be used conventionally as a dump truck. When used as a spreader 10 with tailgate 20 closed, conveyor 15 conveys material from body 11 aft through the opening in tailgate 20 to spinner 50 at the rear end of conveyor 15. By tilting dump body 11 with tailgate 20 closed, a partial load can be shifted aft against tailgate 20 where it overlies conveyor 15 and can then be conveyed to spinner 50 after dump body 11 is leveled.

  • Patent number: 4583693
Abstract: A spreader 10, cooperating with a dump body 11 having a conventional tailgate 20, includes a conveyor 15 extending through an opening 12 in the lower region of tailgate 20 to rest on bottom 13 of body 11 and extend aft of tailgate 20. A hopper 30 underneath a rear end of conveyor 15 receives rearward flowing material that it guides downward to a spinner 50 arranged below hopper 30. Telescoping pipes 51 and 52 adjust the height of spinner 50 below hopper 30 and pivot spinner 50 between a horizontal stowed position and a vertical operating position. Conveyor 15 is pivotally connected to tailgate 20 so that as tailgate 20 pivots open when body 11 dumps, conveyor 15 moves with pivoting tailgate 20, sliding rearwardly of body 11 and lifting a rear region of conveyor 15 clear of bottom 13 of body 11.

  • Patent number: 4334820
Abstract: A bucket system incorporating a tilting mechanism comprises a pair of horizontal arms each provided integrally with a pair of stanchions having an arcuate bend in the upper portion thereof and having one or more pulleys disposed at the leading end of the arcuately bent upper portion, a bucket rotatably fastened to the pair of horizontal arms, and a pair of cables fastened at one end thereof to the lower end of the rear side of the bucket, passed over the pulleys on the stanchions, and again fastened at the other end thereof to a stationary mast on the fork lift, whereby elevation of the two-pronged platform of the fork lift whose two prongs are inserted into and held within the pair of horizontal arms causes the cables to stretch to their full length and thereby draw up the lower end of the rear side of the bucket so as to tilt the bucket as a whole and de-elevation of the two-pronged platform from its elevated position causes the bucket to return to its original horizontal position.
