Additional structures allow for the flexing of the machine frame, applying pressure to the cutting drum, adjusting the depth of cut, tightening the belt used to drive the drum, and lifting the machine for job site transportation. The machine enables a method of cutting rumble strips close to obstructions on narrow shoulders while driving the machine in the direction of moving traffic.

  • Patent number: 6948779
Abstract: A mining member designed as a cutting roller for a continuously operating surface miner for mining mineral raw materials of high strength. The roller body is equipped for this purpose with mini-disk bits of identical design. Since different conditions occur over the entire width of the roller during the separation of the material from the soil, the roller body is designed correspondingly, and the arrangement of the mini-disk bits is adapted to these conditions. The mini-disk bits in the edge areas are placed at a greater density than are the mini-disk bits (7) in the middle area. In addition, mini-disk bits are directed obliquely toward the outside as free-cutting bits at the two outer edges of the cutting roller. The height of the mini-disk bits is selected to be such that their individual virtual rolling paths together form a virtual cutting roller body, which comprises a middle cylinder, which is joined on both sides by outwardly tapering frusta.

Abstract: A hard rock drill barrel has a barrel portion with a downhole hammer drill disposed therein at the barrel's periphery. A pilot portion, in substantial axial alignment with the barrel but having a smaller diameter, extends distally from the barrel for inserting into a pilot shaft of slightly larger diameter than the pilot portion. In operation, the hammer drill excavates a collar around the pilot shaft when the drill barrel is rotated and supplied with pressurized air, thereby excavating a relative large diameter shaft. The drill barrel is hollow and open at its proximal end to receive and collect cuttings flushed into the shaft above the drill barrel. The piloted drill barrel is adjustable to excavate variable diameter shaft portions, enabling the placement of casing within a larger diameter shaft portion. After adjustment of the drill barrel, smaller-diameter shaft excavation proceeds beyond the casing.

Abstract: A camming surface, having a plurality of camming groups, is moved along, or relative to, the surface of the roadway to regulate installation of depressions. Each camming group is capable of regulating elevation of a rotary cutting tool where the rotary cutting tool may move down and into contact with the surface of the roadway and move up and out of contact with the surface of the roadway. Use of a plurality of sections may be used to cooperate to form the camming surface. Inserts are disclosed for positioning relative to the camming surface to selectively eliminate installation of a depression at a position on the roadway associated with a respective camming group. Use of such inserts allow for installation of skip pattern installations.
