  • Patent number: 8832943
Abstract: Retractable scissors include a holder and a scissor piece mounted on the holder. The scissor piece is rotational with respect to the holder among a closed position, at which the scissor piece is retracted in the holder, a first open position, at which the scissor piece is open with respect to the holder at an acute angle, and a second open position, at which the scissor piece is open with respect to the holder wider than at the first open position. The scissor piece includes a first edge, and the holder includes a second edge that intersects and contacts the first edge. When the scissor piece is rotated with respect to the holder from the first open position toward the closed position, the scissor piece and the holder cooperate to function as a pair of scissors that cuts an object between the first and second edges. When the scissor piece is located at the second open position, the scissor piece functions as a blade of a knife, and the holder functions as a handle of the knife.

The blade is affixed to the handle with the cutting portion extending outwardly from the handle. The cutting portion of the blade resides inside a retractable sheath that is movable between a blade guarding position and a blade exposing position. The sheath is coupled to the handle by a biasing assembly that biases the sheath into the blade guarding position whereat the cutting portion of the blade is received completely inside the sheath. The sheath retracts to the blade exposing position when the sheath is pressed against the packaging with sufficient force to overcome the biasing force applied thereto by the biasing assembly. Abstract: A cuticle cutter of the like is described which is of the scissors type. Instruments of this type, especially in beauty salons, require constant cleaning, sharpening and sterilisation. The cutter of the invention facilitates such procedures by permitting the handles (2, 21) to be separate from the blades (1, 1?). In the preferred embodiment the blades are snap fitted into the handles and the arrangement is such that on opening the cutters to a maximum surfaces on the handles enter into abutment with the blades in the region of the pivot (6) and further opening cams the blades away from the handles, releasing them without any necessity for manual contact. The blades can then be submitted to the above mentioned procedures and stored for further use.

A control member is mounted on the outer face of the at least one side wall and is slidable along the elongate slot. The control member includes a stub detachably received in one of the upper and lower recesses. A biasing member includes a pressing portion urged on the stub and an abutment rested on the at least one side wall in the elongate slot. A positioning member extends through a hole defined in the control member, the biasing member, and the elongate slot, and is securely engaged in a bore defined in the blade.

  • Patent number: 5625951
Abstract: A combination hand tool for cutting flexible duct and the like, which tool has both (i) a blade-holding mechanism which enables safe, quick and convenient replacement of a utility knife blade for cutting material requiring relatively low cutting pressure (e.g., the insulated portion of flexible duct) and (ii) a replaceable cutting tool having a cutting edge moveable against a cutting surface to enable the user to generate relatively high cutting force on a piece requiring such high cutting force (e.g., the metal or plastic wire component of flexible duct). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the aforementioned blade-holding mechanism includes two similarly-shaped, overlying plates which are both pivotably moveable to enable separation of the plates and replacement of the utility knife blade positioned therebetween. Also, the aforementioned replaceable cutting tool is held in its operating position by a holding mechanism for releasably securing the cutting tool.

Abstract: A pair of shears has a fixed blade, a fixed handle connecting the fixed blade, a driving blade, and a driving handle connecting the driving blade, a spring between two handles, a pin on the crisscross portion between two blades, and a switch button on the outer side of the fixed handle. The first threaded hole and the first positioning post are formed on the front of the fixed blade. The second threaded hole and the second positioning post are formed on the inner side of the fixed handle. A cutting device such as a saw blade and a scikle is disposed in front of the fixed blade. A through hole and a positioning hole are formed on the rear of the cutting device. The first positioning post inserts in the positioning hole. A screw passes through the through hole and the first threaded hole to fasten the cutting device.

  • Patent number: 4794692
Abstract: A multipurpose miniature hand tool includes two casings defining an outer housing. A roll of measuring tape, two scissor blades, and an elongated snap-off blade are extendably and retractably mounted within the outer housing. Each of the scissor blades are restricted to be movable only along one of the casings. A cap bolt extends through a lengthwise extending slide slot of each of the casings and through a pivot hole of each of the scissor blades and engages threadably with a nut for fastening tightly the casings and the scissor blades thereon. When the nut is somewhat loosed from the bolt, the nut and the bolt can slide along the slide slots of the casings together with the scissor blades, thereby permitting the scissor blades to extend partially out of the outer housing. At that time, the casings from the movable handles of a pair of scissors.
