Pivoted Blade Patents (Class 30/155)
  • Patent number: 8776381
Abstract: A folding knife having a handle, a blade pivotably coupled to the handle, and a liner includes a liner lock and a first pivot member that is a post, pin, rod, or other structure having a shape adapted to be slidably received in the second arcuate opening of the blade. The liner further includes a first arcuate opening that has an enlarged end portion and an axis approximately perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the handle adapted for slidably receiving the second pivot member of the blade. A tang of the blade includes the second pivot member, and the second arcuate opening that has an enlarged end portion and an axis approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis of the blade. An extended tang portion, or flipper, extends downward from the tang. The handle also includes an opposing liner arranged alongside the liner in the handle with the blade positioned therebetween.

Abstract: A retractable blade knife includes a body, a handle lever and a blade holder assembly. The blade holder assembly is mounted to the distal end of the body to pivot between a retracted position in which a cutting edge is concealed within the body and an extended position in which a cutting edge is exposed. The handle lever is mounted to the body at a pivot joint that is located between the opposite ends of both the lever member and the body so that the handle lever can pivot between an open position and a closed position. A pin at the distal end of the handle lever is received for sliding movement by a slot in the blade holder assembly so that when the handle lever is urged from the open position to the closed position, the blade holder assembly rotates from the retracted position to the extended position.

Abstract: A hand saw includes a saw blade, a handle, and a blade carrier. The saw further includes a blade clamp assembly having a locking member that removably couples the saw blade to the blade carrier so that the saw blade pivots with the blade carrier about a pivot axis. An actuating button is manually movable generally transverse to a longitudinal axis of the saw blade by the user between an engaged position and a disengaged position. In the engaged position, the actuating button engages the blade carrier to retain the blade carrier and the saw blade in one of an extended position and a folded position. In the disengaged position, the actuating button is disengaged from the blade carrier so that the blade carrier and the saw blade can be pivoted between the extended and the folded positions of the saw blade.

Abstract: A pair of handle scales are configured to mate against the liners of the core assembly of a folding tool such as a pocket knife. A mating surface of each scale can have recesses to accommodate extending pins on which the blades of the tool pivot. A magnetic moment is provided between the scales to attract the scales together, forcibly engaging them against the core assembly positioned therebetween. The magnetic moment can be provided by one or more magnets in each scale, positioned to be opposed when the scales are superimposed on the liners. The scales can each be formed as a two-part assembly having a scale plate which contacts the core and a scale body, which can be provided with recesses to store accessories.

Abstract: A folding knife with retractable pocket clip that moves in an arc between retracted and deployed positions generally within the same pivot plane as a pivotally folding blade and whose movement between retracted and deployed positions is coordinated through direct contact with the blade so that the clip is automatically deployed for use as the blade is pivoted into a storage position and automatically retracted when the blade is pivoted to a position for use. The pocket clip is configured to be uniquely sheltered from snagging hazards and to secure the folding knife to a pocket by means of a unique retentive characteristic resulting from localized tension advantageously generated along the pocket edge and maintained by compression exerted upon the body of the knife as it rests within the pocket.

  • Patent number: 8087173
Abstract: A modular tool system includes a plate for carrying a tool, a top plate and a base plate. A pair of locking members is disposed at two opposite ends of the tool-carrying plate. Each lock member is rotatably mounted in the tool-carrying plate, and has an axis of rotation perpendicular the tool-carrying plate. Each locking member has a keyway for receiving and locking a corresponding key of the top plate, and a key for inserting and locking in a corresponding keyway of the base plate. Turning of the keys of the top plate relative to the keyways of the tool-carrying plate locks the top plate and the tool-carrying plate together, and further turning of the keys of the top plate turns the keys of the tool-carrying plate relative to the keyways of the base plate and locks the tool-carrying plate and the base plate together.

Abstract: A folding hand saw includes a first housing, a transmission unit disposed in the first housing, a second housing having a third pivotal end pivotally connected with a second pivotal end of the first housing and connected with the transmission unit, and a saw blade having a forth pivotal end pivotally connected with a first pivotal end of the first housing and connected with the transmission unit such that the saw blade is pivotable between a folded position where the saw blade is inserted into a first insertion groove of the first housing and a second insertion groove of the second housing, and an unfolded position where the saw blade leaves the first insertion groove and the second insertion groove. As a result, the folding hand saw of the present invention can prevent the saw blade from hurting a user or other people.

  • Patent number: 8028419
Abstract: In one embodiment, a folding knife comprises a handle portion and first and second nesting blades pivotally coupled to the handle portion for pivoting movement between respective open and closed positions. The second blade in one embodiment is formed with a recess or notch which is sized and shaped to receive the first blade, allowing both blades to pivot within a common plane. The knife can also include a locking mechanism that is operable to retain the blades against pivoting movement when the blades are in their respective open positions. In particular configurations, the locking mechanism comprises a resilient locking arm configured to lock both blades in their open positions or first blade alone in its respective locking position. In certain embodiments, a folding tool comprises plural nesting tool elements other than knife blades.

  • Patent number: 8020302
Abstract: A folding knife includes a handle, a blade, a resilient element and a poking element. The blade can be turned into or out from the handle. The resilient element has an end fixed to the handle and another end extended to a position of connecting the handle and the blade. If the blade is stored in the handle, the resilient element produces a torque to turn the blade into the handle. When a force is applied to turn the blade out from the handle, the resilient element produces a torque to pop the blade out from the handle automatically. The poking element is provided for turning the blade. When the blade is in the handle, the poking element presses against the blade, such that if a user pokes an end of the poking element, another end of the poking element turns the blade out from the handle.
