  • Patent number: 11541558
Abstract: The knife includes a handle portion attached to a blade with a tip at its distal end. The blade comprises four surfaces that converge to form a spine and opposing cutting edges with each surface having a concave segment, a first angled segment, a flat segment, and a second angled segment as the surface extends from the spine to the edge. Similarly, the tip includes four surfaces that converge and terminate at a point, with each surface comprising only an angled segment. Optionally, the knife includes a unique safety lanyard that has two attachment points on the handle such that a closed loop is adjustably formed around the user's hand when gripping the handle, which aids in withdrawing the knife, stabilizing the user's grip, and preventing the hand from sliding forward while in use. Optionally, the knife includes a thumb plate as an additional safeguard.

Abstract: The present invention provides a power tool comprising: at least a pair of handles (10, 20), wherein each of the pair of handles has (a) a respective actuator (14, 24) for operating said power tool; and (b) a respective guard member (16, 26) for restricting access to said respective actuator; the power tool further comprising a latch mechanism (72, 74) for latching the pair of handles (10, 20) together, wherein the latch mechanism has a first component (72) mounted on a first one (16) of said guard members and a second component (74) mounted on a second one (26) of said guard members and adapted to engage with said first component (72). Thus, the components of the latch mechanism are mounted on the respective guard members for the actuators, rather than directly on the handles themselves. This ensures that the components of the latch mechanism are able to latch the handles together without being impeded by the presence of the guard members or the actuators.

  • Patent number: 7434320
Abstract: An elongate blade grip is attached to the top edge of a knife blade to achieve greater cutting control and efficiency. The blade grip includes a top member and two opposing side members connected to the top member. The blade grip closely conforms to the flat shape of the knife blade so as to allow knife users to choke up on the knife, or hold the knife partly by the blade. An elongate and rounded top surface on the top member relieves pressure on the proximal phalange of the index finger, thereby reducing blisters and calluses associated with choking up. The side members of the blade grip include slip resistant surfaces where the thumb and medial phalange of the index finger are normally located when choking up on the knife.

Abstract: A knife used for cutting thick material, such as insulation that includes an elongated handle with an elongated blade longitudinally aligned and attached to the handle's distal end. Formed over the top edge of the blade is a blade holder that protects the user's fingers when placed over the top edge of the blade during use. Disposed under the blade holder is an optional blade stabilizer and a spring that acts as a biasing means to limit the amount of cutting pressure applied. Attached to the proximal end of the handle is an adjustable strap designed to wrap around the user's forearm and elbow joint. During use, the user presses his or her index finger downward against the blade holder to impart a downward cutting action. Formed over the upper edge of the blade is an optional blade stabilizer.

Abstract: A resilient hand guard for protecting the hand of a hacksaw user including a flat shield formed of resilient non-metallic or elastomeric material having a height equal to that of the frame and a width at least as great as a projected frontal width of a user's hand when grasped around the handle. The shield has an elongated notch extending downwardly from an upper margin having a width and length sufficient to be fitted around and receive support from an upper portion of the frame just forwardly of the handle. The shield also has a mounting aperture positioned directly below the notch sized to fit over and receive support from a threaded end of an elongated rear blade tensioning support of the frame. The shield has sufficient resiliency for a side portion thereof to be protectively deflected around the hand upon inadvertent impact against an object during use of the hacksaw.

  • Patent number: 7013569
Abstract: A cutting tool includes an elongate handle to be grasped by a user, and an elongate blade connected to the elongate handle. The elongate blade includes a substantially linear proximal portion extending longitudinally outwardly from an end of the handle, and a curved distal portion extending in a downward and forward curve from the proximal portion and ending in a tapered tip. The linear proximal portion and curved distal portion may have about equal lengths. The linear proximal portion may have a sharpened lower edge and the curved distal portion may have sharpened upper and lower edges. In some embodiments, the elongate blade may have a length of less than about twelve inches so that the cutting tool is a knife, and in other embodiments, the elongate blade may have a length of greater than about twelve inches so that the cutting tool is a sword.

Abstract: A large kitchen or barbecue fork and protector for preventing injuries from sharp tines of the fork and preventing food contamination from bacteria and dirt on the tines. The guard is movable on a shank of the fork from a covering relationship with the sharp pointed tines to an uncovering relationship with the sharp pointed tines. The guard is comprised of a hub portion which closely fits the shank and a cover portion which encloses the tines in the covering portion. In a first embodiment, the guard is retained on the shank at the covering and uncovered positions by a permanent magnet mounted in the guard. In a second embodiment, the guard is retained on the shank at the covering and uncovered positions by the friction of the guard on the shank.

  • Patent number: 6861903
Abstract: Signal coupling systems are provided which enhance signal isolation and dynamic range with structures that increase bias voltages in upstream signal amplifiers to guard against transistor saturation that would otherwise increase current drain, reduce response time and possibly cause lock-up of an associated gain-control system. Dynamic range is thus enhanced because these systems can operate over an extended range of source signals. The increased bias voltages also decrease parasitic junction capacitances which increases input impedances and thereby enhances signal isolation and reduces signal distortion.

  • Patent number: 6637112
Abstract: A deflectable safety shield extends transversely across a cutting plane in a protective guard position completely overlying the cutting edge of a utility knife. A portion of the shield extends over-center with respect to the cutting edge, thereby tending to hold the shield in the guard position in response to contact of the shield against the operator at the normal angle of engagement during follow-through that accompanies rapid slicing hand movements. The shield is resiliently biased for movement to the guard position by a torsion spring. An outwardly-turned flange portion of the shield provides an angularly offset leverage point for reacting the torsion spring when the operator desires to perform a cutting operation. The shield swings away from the cutting plane automatically in response to pressure engagement of the offset flange portion against the box surface, thus exposing the cutting edge.
