Abstract: A blade cartridge including three or more blades fixed between a platform member and a cap member. The present invention provides improved triple blade geometry where five contact surfaces with the skin are considered, including the edges of each of the blades, a skin contacting surface on the guard member and a skin contacting surface on the cap member. The five contacting surfaces are oriented at an equal distance from a common axis in order to ensure that the shaving forces normal to the contacting surfaces are shared by all of the contacting surfaces. The arrangement of the present invention provides optimal blade geometry, thereby producing a close and comfortable shave. Additionally, the blades of the present invention are movable to a less aggressive position in response to applied shaving forces.

  • Patent number: 6272752
Abstract: A hair trimming tool which includes an elongated handle with a first end and a second end, a blade member releasably mounted to the handle, a plurality of blades extending outwardly from the blade member, and an end cap secured to the blade member is disclosed. In order to use the tool the user inserts the tool into his ear, with the end cap fitting within the ear, and rotates the handle member. As a result of this action the blades contact the hair within the ear, thereby trimming the hair. The end cap protects the inside of the person's ear while the hair is being trimmed.

  • Patent number: 6176014
Abstract: A novel cutting element in or for a safety razor comprises an elongate member with a series of slots (5), each slot (5) tapering from an open forward end to a substantially closed trailing end, and each slot (5) being confined between a pair of shaped edges (6) for slicing hairs as they move through the slot as the cutting element is moved across the skin. One or more of the cutting elements may be used in a safety razor blade unit, either alone or in combination with a blade having a conventional straight sharpened edge.

  • Patent number: 6055731
Abstract: A blade assembly for use in a razor has at least one blade providing a cutting edge, a leading skin guide located ahead of the cutting edge, and a trailing skin guide located behind the cutting edge. The leading and trailing skin guides are configured to provide one or more front contact surface and one or more rear contact surface, respectively, for contacting the skin of a user. These front and rear contact surfaces lie substantially on a virtual convexly-curved contact profile such that, when the blade assembly is pressed against the skin of a user, the skin becomes stretched to conform to the contact profile.

  • Patent number: 5983499
Abstract: A manually operated, finger-manipulatable non-electric hair trimming device for shaving nostril hair, ear hair or the like, includes a head structure sized to fit within a small body cavity, such as a person's nostril or ear cavity, which includes a flexible razor blade strip. The head structure has a base portion and a curved guard portion, which preferably has first and second ends which are attached to the base portion. A finger grip portion is connected to the base portion to allow precise manual manipulation of the hair trimming device. The head structure further has a thin, elongated narrow razor blade strip with a razor sharp first edge portion, which may be a serrated edge with razor-sharp notches such as V-slots or may be a conventional straight edge. Alternatively, two razor-sharp edges, one serrated and one straight, may be provided.

  • Patent number: 5979056
Abstract: A manually operated, finger and/or hand-manipulatable non-electric body shaving device for shaving substantially curved portions of the body such as the legs, arms and underarm regions, includes a handle portion and a curved razor blade strip base support platform, and a correspondingly curved or curvable razor blade strip platform structure. The razor blade strip platform is longitudinally arranged with respect to the handle or fingergrip portion, and preferably all three major elements, i.e., the handle or fingergrip region, the base support structure and the blade platform structure are located within a common plane for ease of use. Seven different embodiments of my longitudinally arranged body shaving device having one or more substantially curved razor blade strips are shown and described.

  • Patent number: 5813119
Abstract: A razor which actively flexes at least one, and preferably a plurality of skin-engaging elements during shaving to follow the contours of a skin surface. One preferred razor comprises a support and a pair of rotating pivots movably connected to the support. Each rotating pivot contacts separate portions of a razor head. Shaving forces exerted on a first razor head portion in a first direction will cause the rotating pivot to move a second razor head portion in a second direction which is different from the first direction. The razor also comprises means for biasing the rotating pivots to a neutral position. In one embodiment, the support comprises a pivot assembly to which the rotating pivots are connected thereby providing another degree of movement to the rotating pivots relative to the support.

  • Patent number: 5802720
Abstract: A razor consisting of a flexible cloth-like base material upon which are mounted a plurality of cutting heads. Each head is attached to the base material so as to be flexible in orientation. A preferred head embodiment includes a flat metal structure having an attachment hole for connection to the cloth and an aperture large enough for passage of one or more hairs, the perimeter of the aperture having a sharp edge for cutting the hair. The density, i.e. quantity of heads per unit area is preferably very large, resulting in some overlap of heads. In this dense configuration, the probability of a head engaging a hair is greatly increased, in spite of the somewhat random orientation of each head. This principle is more commonly known as the law of mass action. The dense, small cutting heads in combination with the flexible cloth-like base material provides a structure that easily conforms to body contours.
