  • Patent number: 6249973
Abstract: A mechanical thinning razor includes a shank, a handle, a blade, a bladeguard, a driving member and a sliding member. When pushing an external surface of the driving member toward a hollow midsection of the shank, the bevel of the driving member forces the sliding member to move longitudinally over a distance that corresponds to a width of exposed segments or non-exposed segments, thereby doubling the working life of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5620454
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved guarded surgical scalpel having a movable guard that can be retracted to expose the blade and that can be extended to cover the sharp cutting edge of the blade. The guard is telescopically mounted inside the blade handle and includes a deflectable top wall portion that holds a detent pin. This detent pin engages a slot having upturned ends that is formed in at least one side wall of the blade handle. The detent pin is biased upwardly into the upturned ends to hold the guard in the retracted or extended position.

  • Patent number: 4813131
Abstract: A safety razor comprises a pivotal cap member which in a first position is effective to obscure the cutting edge of the blade or blade members to protect the cutting edge from contact with other objects. The cap member when pivoted to a second position exposes the blade cutting edge and positions a skin engaging guard surface adjacent the blade cutting edge to provide a desired shaving geometry.

  • Patent number: 4663841
Abstract: A hair trimming tool having means to adjust the cutting depth. The invention is a lightweight, compact, adjustable, razor blade type, hand-held hair trimmer tool having a stationary base member for removably affixing a standard safety razor blade and a slidable base member for adjusting the length of cut. Comb-like teeth projections on both base members ensure a controlled, even cut.

  • Patent number: 4501067
Abstract: A razor blade assembly, in the form of a razor or shaving unit, comprises a top cap 114, a razor blade 113 fixed relative to the top cap, and a guardbar 115 which is pivotally movable relative to the blade from a shaving position, in which the blade is exposed for shaving, to a protecting position in which the guardbar prevents contact between the cutting edge of blade 113 and a user of the razor. The guardbar can be formed integrally with a platform 112 on which a second blade 123 is secured, or the second blade 123 could be secured to the top cap. In either case the guardbar and platform will pivot between the shaving position and the protecting position, and in latter position both blades will be protected.

  • Patent number: 4302876
Abstract: A tandem edge razor blade cartridge has two blades with edge portions bearing cutting edges that are in a spaced-apart, parallel relationship. One of the blades has a major portion, behind the edge portion, bent at a substantial angle to the edge portion, away from the other blade, so that the gap behind the edge portions is greater than that between the edge portions themselves. Other embodiments include one or both blades each having a major portion comprising two components, one at an angle to the edge portion away from the other blade, the second component bent, at the same angle, to the first, back toward the other blade. As a result the second component is parallel to the edge portion, but displaced further than it is from the other blade. Additionally, an embodiment is provided in which the razor blade support has resilient apparatus to allow independent motion of the blades.

  • Patent number: 4300285
Abstract: A safety razor having a retractable blade member. The safety razor has a platform integral with the handle portion of the razor and provided with a recess formed in the upper surface thereof, a blade support member movably received by the recess of the platform, a blade member provided with front cutting edge and secured to and supported by said blade support member so as to project forwardly from the latter, a cover member fixed to the platform and cooperating with the latter in movably holding therebetween the blade support member together with the blade member, and apparatus for moving the blade member between a first position where the cutting edge is fully retracted and disappears behind the cover member and a second position where the cutting edge is fully extended. The cover member and the platform cooperate with each other in defining therebetween an elongated opening through which the cutting edge is moved in and out as the blade supporting member is moved by the above-mentioned apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4241500
Abstract: A safety razor incorporates an apparatus for substantially vertical displacement of a blade carrier and the shaving edge carried thereby with respect to a skin guard. The blade carrier includes a circular hub retained by a circular receiving portion of a cover member used in the razor. A circular interfacing device, between the hub and the receiving portion, incorporates two eccentric segments. A first segment receives the hub, and the second segment is engaged by the receiving portion of the cover. Rotation of the interfacing device in the cover provides displacement of the blade in accordance with movement of the centers of the two segments of the device. Such displacement specifically causes movement of the razor blade with respect to the skin guard formed in the cover, and is used to provide a height adjustment for the blade.
